PLANS COMPLETED FOR TjyAHQUET tTwo Hundred Pounds of Baked Trout to Be Served County Sportsmen.
All plans for the banquet of the j
rwayne tounty nsn and Game association Thursday night at the I. O. O. F, hall have been completed. The committee in( charge of the 'feed" for the evening reported it had ordered 200 pounds of trout from Chicago, which will be served baked. ;Side dishes galore are to be prepared ,and plenty of good, rich "flsherman'3 'grub" will grace the board when the guests sit down. The publicity committee reported jthe ticket sale well under way with 'about one hundred and fifty tickets !nold or ordered. Thirty-two mall orjders for tickets have been - received iand filled. j Delegations of flsherfolk from Camibridge, Milton and Indianapolis, .will (probably be present for the evening. State Fish and Game Commissioner
i Miles will speak at the banquet. The
text of his speech has not been announced. He will spend considerable time making an inspection of the broodery west of the city where thousands of young bass are being hatched this spring. Hundreds will be placed in the rivers of the county this
spring. Miles will also bring with him plans
for the new fish ladder to be constructed at the Main street dam. The members of the association are desirous of securing the ladder as soon
as possible, that the fish below the
dam which come up the river with the advent of high water, may get over the dam and spawn in the river above. They are unable to do so now and fall ready victims to the fishers
! below the dam.
A party of fishermen, consisting of Henry Miller, S. S. Cook and Otto Heins, spent Sunday on the waters !n the western part of the county, returning in the evening with fifteen large bass. They will not state what kind of bait they used, but say they are going again to get more. This is the biggest catch of the bass this season. Will Kelly secured three nice fish the same day.

LOCAL BAND GETS NEW HEADQUARTERS Rooms formerly occupied by the Young Men's Business Club have been leased by the Richmond City Band, an organization of about thirty musicians of the city. The Musicians Union will also use the same rooms as headquarters. Frank Hartzler, band leader, declares that the band is now one of the best in the state. When asked whether the organization would sign a contract to furnish concerts at Glen Miller Park this year or not, he said that it is now up to the city street car company and the city.

per methods in planting threes. These little books are most comprehensive and interesting. The following are some of the paragraphs in the pamphlet: "Every state has its Arbor Day and much is being done to awaken interest in the young people, in the planting of trees. "This little tree that you are about to plant, given proper care, will grow a monument to yourself and a monument to your city and community. In years to come it will be worth a great deal of money, and will beautify your community. Plant it, take care of it and you will be proud in a few years to be able to say, "I planted that tree."
Then the instructions in planting follow: "Roots will not be crowded. In plant
ing a tree, be sum to firm or press the dirt very solid around It, then pour about a gallon of water around the tree. It is best to plant a tree in a place where the sun will reach it all day or at least" the greater part of the day. Do not put any compost of any kind around the roots, except that there may be some top soil put in the
bottom of the hole in which the tree is planted. It is necessary if you wish to get quick and big growth on the tree to put a shovel or two full of good well rotted compost on top of the ground around the tree. This you may spread out from the tree about a foot making it one or two inches deep. All trees get their greatest amount of plant food from their surface roots.
so In all cases you can get better results by supplying the plant food, such as compost, commercial fertiliser, etc., from the top of the ground, than by putting it direct to the roots under the ground. Plant food should be supplied to all trees and plants In above manner. "The tree should be planted as deep as it formerly erew In the ground.
This you can tell very easily by the different color shown on the tree above the roots."
