Bill Louden, the former Newark player, looks like a fixture at third tbase with the Detroit Tigers. , With Jimmy Esmond at short, working like a dynamo, the Cincinnati infield has been displaying the real article. '. Derrill Pratt has been filling Laforte's place at second base for the Browns and getting away with it in 'line shape. With Pitchers Gregg, Mitchell and George all left-handers, the Cleveland ' and Naps are well fixed in the way of iport-siders this season. Manager Joe McGinnity has an nounced that only union-made sausage '(slang for hot dog) will be sold at the Newark park this season. It was up to Pitcher Marty O Toole to put the Pirates in the win column and the "$22,500 beauty" turned the trick with a few fancy benders arid a , amile. The Pittsburg Pirates lost the opening game, the first since 1907. Since 3887 the Pirates have won 18 and lost 8 games played on the first day on the season. New York fans were greatly worried the first week of the season. Thev , expected to hear every minute that the Highlanders had fallen out of trio league. Hub Perdue looks to be the best bet on the pitching staff of the Boston Braves. The Tennessee farmer is causing kinks to sprout in the backs of the heavy hitters. Steve Yerkes, who is holding his iown with the Boston Red Sox, is a Pennsylvania college boy. Arthur Irpvin discovered Steve and gave him hjs first job in league baseball. The old Cub machine has not started any forest fires so far this season. Quite a number of critics have picked out a place somewhere between the sixth and eighth position for the former champions. Kids in school have the sympathy of the Giants. When the National League Champs fail to deliver the goods, McGraw keeps the team on the field after the regular game, and compels them to go through an hour's practice. Cornelius Lyons, the former Western League umpire, has been elected a justice of the peace at Indianapolis. He will make only one slight change In his decisions hereafter. Instead of sending the bad actors off the field, be will send them to the hoose-gow. WITH THE BOXERS. The Buffalo A. C. of Sacramento, is planning a new fight coliseum with a f seating capacity for 3JOO0 fans. Tim Hurst, the former baseball umt pire, is now matchmaker for the Garden A; C. of New York. Bouts will j be staged in Madison Square Garden. PARIS, April 24. Mrs. Wylie Reynolds, the beautiful widow of a millionaire banker of Jackson, Michigan, is the latest American woman whose engagement to a European nobleman has been announced. Mrs. Reynolds is now with a party of friends, the guest of her fiance, Baron di Francisci, at his palace near Caserta. A fIGHTJOSTPOHED French and English Champions Are to Meet.
(National News Associ&yon) PARIS, April 24. The 20-round fght originally scheduled for tonight between Willie Lewis, of New York, and Georges Carpentier, who holds the French welterweight championship and the English middleweight title, has been postponed until the middle of May, owing to the fact that Lewis has only arrived in France this week and desires several weeks to prepare for the contest. The match is now the staple topic of discussion wherever sporting men congregate in the French capital. Carpentier is considered the cleverest boxer that has been developed on this side of the Atlantic in a long time. The critics are in the habit of speaking of him as a second "Kid" McCoy. In addition to being extraordinarily quick and shifty he possesses a hard punch. At Monte Carlo recently he knocked out Jim Sullivan, the English middleweight champion, in less than two rounds. Carpentier expects to find in the veteran Willie Lewis the most formidable opponent he has yet faced, but the admirers of the French boxer are confident he will be able to hold his own against the American fighter. TWELVE TEAMS IN. THE PENNANT RACE (National News Association) SOUTH BEND, Ind., April 24 With th first twelve-club circuit that has appeared on the beseball map since the National League cut down to eight clubs in 1899, the enlarged Central League started upon its 1912 pennant race today with games in six cities. The organization this year comprises Dayton, South Bend, Grand Rapids, Ft. Wayne, Terre Haute, Wheeling and Zanesville of last year's circuit, together with Springfield, formerly of the Ohio State League, and Youngstown. Erie, Canton and Akron, which were in the O. and P. league last season. A remarkable feature of the circuit is the fact that it contains three clubs that pulled down championship pennants last season. They are Dayton, champions of the Central; Springfield,

TO LIVE IN FACT. Life is what we are alive to. It is not a length, but breadth. Had not Used Half a Set of Cuticura Remedies Before Head was Clear and Free from Eczema. "I think the Cuticura Remedies are th host remedis for ecwma 1 have ever heard of. My mother had a child who had a rash on its head when it was real young. Doctor c-lled it baby rash. He gave us medicine, but it did no good. In a few days the head was a solid mass, a running sore. It was awful, the child cried continually. We had to hold, him r.-id watch htm to keep him) from scratching the sore. His suffering was dreadful. At last wo remembered Cuticura Remedies. We got a dollar bottle of Cuticura Resolvent, a box of Cuticura Ointment, and a bar of Cuticura Soap. We gave the Resolvent cs directed, washed the head with the Cuticura Soap, and applied the Cuticura Ointment. We had not used half before the child's head was clear and free from eczema, and it has never come back again. His head was healthy and he had a beautiful head of hair. I think the Cuticura Ointment very good for the hair. It makes the hair grow and prevents falling hair." (Signed) Mrs. Francis Lund, Plain City, Utah, Sept. 19, 1910.
