, -CROWNED HIMSELF. An Impromptu Ceremony In Which King George IV. Figured. That was a curious sort of Impromptu coronation In which his majesty King William IV. of England figured. Things did not go very well with Earl Grey's, government after the second reading of the first reformed bill had been tarried by a majority of one In 1831. and one Friday In April they suddenly sot tha klas to ro down and prorogue parliament In person. Somebody went off to the Tower to fetch the crown, and with, a scratch body of attendants his majesty drove down to the house of lords. What happened there Is described in Greville's memoir. The king ought not properly to have worn the crown, never having been crowned, but when he was In the robing room he said to Lord Hastings: "Lord Hastings, I wear the crown. Where Is It?" It was brought to him, and when Lord Hastings was going to put it on his head he said, "Nobody shall put the crown on my head but myself." He put it on and then turned to Lord Grey and said, "Now, my lord, the coronation is over." The crown did not fit very well, we , are told, but the prorogation was successfully effected. London Chronicle.

Serving Soup. , If anybody were asked to suggest why the soup plate was made broad and shallow the almost certain answer would be that such an arrangement facilitates the cooling of the soup to a temperature comfortable to the mouth. We believe that utilitarians drink tea out of a saucer for the same reason. While that may be the explanation of the peculiar shape of the soup plate, the advantage indicated is surely insignificant compared with the obvious disadvantages which may probably arise from exposing so large a surface of nutrient fluid to the air. Soup should be served in a cup, a low broad teacup, and the method, which is becoming more usual. Is hygienic. Too deep a vessel would be an error on the other side. Its advantages would be canceled by its great drawback. We should miss some of the delicate flavors of the soup. London Lancet.

"Ocean Thou Mighty Monster!" Table talk is said in America to be a lost art. But at a dinner table last night somebody began with the perfectly obvious remark about the Titanic. Ordinarily the conversation would just have been a recital of telegraphic news and the recollection of greater catastrophes. But about all that can be done in talking about so obvious a thing is to recall the fate of the La Bourgoyne and let It go at that. But somebody did find something new to say. "Doesn't it symbolixe the perpetual struggle of man against fate and fortune and their strange mother nature?" "It would make a subject for a great poet or a great musician," said another. "It's already been done," put in a third, and then bad the other two to reckon with "Edward Macdowtll has done it in his sea pieces," continued the third. "Macdowell can rest easy as a musician he was a bit more of a poet and philosopher than people have given him credit for?" . "But that may be," said the first you still have to connect the Titanic and the wreck and the ice berg and the ocean. "That's easy," said the third. "Just take the headings in the "Sea Pieces" and you have the whole story." With that the third produced the "Sea Pieces" from the music shelf and read. An errant princess of the north A virgin snowy white Sails a down the summer seas To realms of burning light. There you have the ice berg. The yellow setting sun Melts the lazy sea to gold And gilds the swaying galleon That towards a land of promise Lunges hugely on. "That of course is the Titanic and here comes fortunes of the men, women and children on board. A merry song, a chorus brave And yet a sigh regret For roses sweet, in woodland lanes Ah, love can ne'er forget! "And now comes the tragedy of mid-ocean! The whole summing up of the travail and peril of man: Inexorable! Thou straight line of eternal fate That rings the world, Whilst on thy moaning breast We play our puny parts And reckon us immortal! "Did Macdowell write those verses himself? "Yes. And the music too? "Yes and the music is better than the verses. In it the whole struggle of man and his little engines is put out for you to compare with the vast forces of nature and yet we "reckon us immortal" and pride ourselves on conquering the universe!"

Council At Work.

Those who think that the council has no work to do will please consider that last night it passed to third reading a measure taking away the franchise of the T. H. I. & E. It removed the freight tracks from Glen Miller. It heard the defense of Marketmaster Taylor. In all these things it hit in and around the most important public services the cost of living and transportation yet councilmen sometimes hold that they have no power. "

His Spats. "And do you mean to say you and your husband never had any spats?" "My husband had a pair once, sir. but he gave 'em to the boy who sprinkled our grass." Cleveland Plain Dealer.

Human Nature. That fellow Splnks has excellent Judgment" "What makes you think so ?' "Why ef he's always asking my opinion about things." Louisville Courier-Journal.

Weak Heart

Many people suffer from weak hearts. They may experience shortness of breath on exertion, pain over the heart, or dizzy feelings, oppressed breathing after meals or their eyes become blurred, their heart is not sufficiently strong to pump blood to the extremities, and they have cold hands and feet, or poor appetite because of weakened blood supply to the stomach. A heart tonic and slterative should be taken which has no bad after-effect. Such is Dr. Pierce's Golden Medical Discovery, which contains no dangerous narcotics

nor alcohol. The Ingredients, mm attested under oath, are Stone root (Coll la mob la CaaatSemals), Bloodroot (Sanjulnaria CmaadcnalM), Oolden Seal root (.Hydrmsti Caaadensis), Queen's root (Stillinria Sylvatica), Black Cherrybark (Rrunus Virgin laaa Mandrake root ( PotSomhy llu m Prltatum), with triple refined glycerine, prepared In a scientific. laboratory ia a wsy that no druggist could imitate. This tonie contains no alcohol to shrink up the red blood corpuscles ; but, oa the other hand, it increases their number and they become round and healthy. It helps the human system in the constsnt manufacture of rich, red blood. It helps the stomach to assimilate or take up the proper elements from the food, thereby helping digestion and curing dyspepsia, heart-burn and many uncomfortable symptoms, stops excessive tissue wsste in convalescence from fevers ; for the run-down, anemic, thin-blooded people, the " Discovery " is refreshing and vitalizing. Stick to this ssfe and sane remedy, and refuse all " just as good " medicines offered by the druggist who is looking for a larger profit. Nothing but Dr. Pierce's Golden MKlical Discovery will do you half as much good.
