The occasion was Men's night," and a large company of ladies and gentlemen were in attendance. The evening was spent socially after the r program and refreshments were servi ed. The Rebekah Degree lodge will meet on Tuesday evening and the members are all requested to be present for practice at the close of lodge. ;;. Mrs. Lafe Rayle is able to get around the house by the aid of crutchT'es. She does not improve as rapidly -'as she would like. The ligaments were broken loose in her knee when she fell some time ago. The M. E. quarterly meeting will be held at the Milton church Sunday. On Saturday the quarterly conference win convene at 10:30 a. m. On Sunday morning, Dr. Tevis, district superintendent, will deliver the quar- ' terly sermon at 10:30 o'clock. He will administer the Lord's supper at the close of the sermon. J '". Some eighteen or twenty characteristic and artistic views of Brandentown, Fla., and surroundiug country, at. which winter resort, Mr. and Mrs. .O- L. Calloway have been spending -Isome time, are on exhibit in the window of the Calloway Dry Goods Store, and has attracted much attention from the passersby.
The eights number of the Home I Economics section of the Helen Hunt jclub, was held Monday afternoon In
the Methodist church. Miss Gertrude McCheyne, of the the Purdue Extension department addressed the ladies on the subject: "Food, From the Standpoint of Nutrition and Economy," describing the various kinds of food products, the factors affecting the raw products and the use of the food. The address was along the line of practical every day living, and much interest was manifested throughout the address. A pleasant social hour followed, during which wafers and cocoa were served by the entertainment committee. The next number will be given May seventh, at which time Mrs. W. H. Roth will discuss "Beauty in Dress," and Miss Mary Matthews, "The Adulteration of Our Textiles." The sale of household goods of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Lernbarger, occurred Tuesday afternoon and was well attended, the goods bringing fair prices. Mr. and Mrs. Lernbarger will leave soon for California, in which state they expect to make their home. A pleasant dancing party was that given Monday evening in the K. of P. hall. Hicks' Orchestra, of Richmond, ! furnished the dance music, and W. II. Chaffee, of this city, the lunch. The guests included young people, not only from this city, but from Richmond, New Castle, Dublin and Milton, 'among whom were George Hodge and Jeff Myers, of Richmond, Miss Emma Givens, Clarence Fletcher and John Millikan, of New Castle, and Miss Helen Munchoff, of Anderson. Ray Cornell returned to Chicago, Tuesday after a few days spent with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Cornell. The vari-colored crocus beds on the lawns of many of the citizens are evidence that spring is really here. The session of the White Water Presbytery opened Monday evening, with a sermon by the' Moderator, the Rev. C. C. Meek, of Greensburg. After the sermon the Presbytery elected as its Moderator for the ensuing six months, the Rev. A. F. Davis, of Lawrenceburg, Indiana. The session on Tuesday morning was taken up principally with the hearing of the reports, of the following committees, Narrative of Christian Life and Work, Education, Colleges, Publication and Sabbath School Work, Ministerial Relief, Church Erection, Freedmen and the Executive Commission. In the afternoon Rev. T. J. Graham, of Richmond, and Mr. S. P. McCrae, of Shelbyville, were elected delegates to the general assembly which meets in Louisville in May. Presbytery voted in favor of the overture, making the general assembly biennial instead of annual. The pastor relation existing between the College Corner church, and the Rev. H. C. Johnson was dissolvved and he was dismissed to accept a call from the Presbyterian church, of Rankin, Illinois. Rev. W. H. Gray, of the North Indiana Conference, of the Methodist church, was received into the Presbytery. Rev. Gray has been the pastor at Lynn. In the evening two excellent addresses were given by Rev. Thomas R. White, upon "Religious Work Among the Students at the Indiana State University and Rev. Camp bell McKay, of Cincinnati, on the subject "Mission Work in Siam, among the Laos." The address of Rev. McKay was exceedingly interesting. Resolutions were passed complimenting the pastor, Rev. G. L. Guichard and the congregation on the hospitable manner in which the Presbytery had been entertained. Between forty-five and fifty delegates were in attendance. HAGERSTOWN, IND. HAGERSTOWN, Ind., April it Mrs. John Werking returned Tuesday evening from Indianapolis where she was the guest of her daughter, Mrs. Ernest Morrison., Mrs. Hugh Morris and daughter, Maxine, of Mt. Auburn, spent several days here with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Jones and were joined Sunday by Mr. Morris. They returned home Monday. Richard Elvord and Willie Newcomb have purchased the newspaper and cigar stand of Ora Wheeler. Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Thalls entertained Sunday Mr. and Mrs. Arville Thalls of Cambridge City, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Thalls and daughter Olga, and Mr. and Mrs. Add Kiser and family. The Cambridge Degree of Pocahontas degree team initiated five candidates into the Pocahontas lodge at this place last evening. A fine supper was served following the initiation. The candidates names as given out are Ray Allen, Benj. Woods and Clyde Hardy. The Pythian Sisters will initiate Miss Katherine Gohring into their order at. their regular session tonight. Mrs. A. E. Smith was hostess Wednesday afternoon for the Five Hundred club. Mrs. F . B. Petro was recently made a member of the club. Fred Rudy is able to be out of doors after a long winter illness. The Home Missionary Society of the Christian church was entertained this afternoon at the home of Mrs. Sara Bell. Mrs. Mahala Huffman visited with Mrs. Monroe Sherry this week. The Christian Endeavor Society held a social at the church, Tuesday evening. Mrs. W. T. Warbinton will entertain the Anti Can't Sunday School class of the Christian church at her home Friday evening. Miss Ruby Burgess is visiting at the home of Michael Conniff and famiy. Mrs. J. T. Hunt was hostess Tuesday afternoon at her home on Elm street for the M. K. Home and Foreign Missionary Society. The program was varied and of intense interest. Miss Mary Clark, a guest, gae an impromptu talk 011 "the World at Cincinnati." which she visited last week. The guests beside the members were, Mrs. F. B. Petro, Miss Leah Petro, Mrs. Chas. Backenstoe. Miss Clark. Mrs. Ella Love. Mrs. W. T. Warburton. A dainty lunch was served at the close of the program.
