The following is a true story of an Incident that happened in an English Tillage; -""A husband had gone out for the evening and left bis wife and child at borne. The woman was about to retire for the night when, to her amazement, 'she perceived the foot of a man beneath the bed. Instead of calling for v assistance, as some would' have done, she coolly went to the child's cot and sat snd sang till the child went to ttleep. Two hours then remained be fore her husband came in. He was surprised to find her waiting up, but 'when his wife handed him an envel ope, saying, "You might run and post this," the cause of her waiting was re vealed. Instead of a letter the follow ing was written on the envelope: "A burglar Is under our bed. Run; fetch . police." The husband returned In a minute with a policeman, and the man was arrested. The burglar when brought up before the magistrate remarked that he had come across a few 1 brave women In his time, but this one saust have had a nerve like iron, for he sat there for three solid hours. May Irwin's comedy-farce, "She Knows Better Now," was produced under the personal supervision of Miss Irwin and William Collier. Miss Irwin and Mr. Collier were members of the late Augustin Daly's company about thirty years ago. Although "Willie" began his career with Mr. Daly as call boy, he left the company a number of years later with several important comedy creations to his credit. Miss Irwin was for a number of years a valued member of the great Daly company, perhaps the finest dramatic organization New York City has ever supported. Miss Irwin and Mr. Collier are warm friends, and the comedian readily agreed to Miss Irwin's proposal to assist her in producing her new farce. The new songs, Miss Irwin will sing during the action of her comedy were written for her by irving Berlin, composer of "Alexander's Ragtime Band." At the Murray. After a most successful week the bill which has pleased so many this week comes to a close, with the two shows tonight. The leRoy Sisters, who open the show are singers and dancers par ex cellence. They have excellent voices and their songs are well chosen. They make sevral complete changes of costume which adds materially to the act. Goodrich and Lingham put on a comedy sketch which pleases. Miss Goodrich gives several impersonations with great accuracy, while Mr. Lingham is a finished performer. Emil Subers, the black face, who haB furnished so many of the laughs this week has a bunch of stories that are new and guaranteed to make you laugh. For the headliner there is Johnny Eckert and his company in the musical comedietta "Won By Wireless". Mr. Eckert is a comedian of ability and has surrounded himself with a most capable cast, making one of the best acts of the kind. Manager Murray is to be congratulated on securing for his feature act next week "Salambo and Olivette" the Wonder Workers. This act is right off the Orpheum Time and was secured by Manager Murray only at the very highest salary. The Palace. In addition to the regular program of motion pictures the Palace, at no extra charge, has arranged to exhibit all next week, the marvelous Chronophone, showing talking and singing moving pictures. Every movement, whether of the lips or body fits the words and music exactly as If live performers were at work. As there will be entire change of program dally, crowded houses are expected all week. The auctioneer announces to the audience that he has such and such a piece of property for sale and invites bids. Those who wish to bid write their bids and names on slips of paper. The paper is folded and placed In a box. When the auctioneer no more bids coming he opens the box and sorts out the bids. The highest bid takes the property. It Is like a bond sale no one knows what his neighbor bids. If a bidder is anxious to get the property he will not put in a small offer. On the contrary, he will very likely bid all the property is worth. For this reason an owner never puts up his property for auction unless he wants to Cell it New York Sun. . Naturally. T. P. A. Notes BY W. H.Xr Dont forget that tonight is election night Come up and vote and help elect a new president, either an entirely brand new one or the old one worked over. Also help re-elect our secretary, and elect three brand new members of the board of directors. Besides that there is some good fellows that want to go to Peoria that you want to vote your choice on. Polls open at 7 p. m. and will close at 9:15 p. m. Tonight is the one eventful night of the year. And to add further interest to the occasion a very "foxy" lunch will be served by Marion E. Shreeve, Elmer E. Lebo, William E. Morris, Leroy E. Brown, ably assisted by other industrious members of Post C. Come early and stay late. Alex Gordon, chairman of the Railroad cominUtee, says the C. and O. will be pleased to give us a private car to accommodate Post C members who will attend the State Convention May 3rd and 4th. They propose to give either a modern day coach or pullman chair car attaching same to their fast Chicago train leaving here Friday at 12:15 p. m. and returning Saturday evening, arriving home at 7:32 p. m. Make your arrangements to go. En gage Hotel accommodations and pre pare to have a good old fashioned T. P. A. convention time. G. A. Mendenhall will be pleased to secure hotel accommodations for you and will be in M un cle next week to make arrangements. Notify him at once to secure accommodations for yourself and wife and if you have no wife, for yourself anyway. John B. Hegger, a prominent member of Post C who "plays" the German comedian in the "Midnight Creed." and who has the reputation of talking more and saying less,' living better, sleeping less and wearing louder trousers than any man in Richmond, leaves Sunday for a week's stay at West Baden, accompanied by the writer. John says he "ain't" afraid to pull the string of the worst badger that ever "it" a "dawg." We wjll see if he has nerve enough to drink "sprudel" and court favors from ferociouB badgers at the same time or not. It was with extreme regret that the many friends in Post C of M. L Leasure of Indianapolis, a representative of Proctor and Gamble Co., learned of his serious injury In the Fortville interurban wreck last week. However, we are glad to learn he Is better and his many friends here wish for him a speedy recovery. Byram C. Robbins, of Detroit, Mich., a member of Post C, was very seriously injured in the Fortville interurban wreck and for a time his life was despaired of. However we are glad to learn that he has excellent prospects for recovery, and Post C joins with others in wishing him a speedy recovery. There is no doubt but that our excellent hustling chairman of the state Railroad Committee, James R. Craw ford, of New Albany, will be- heard from in reference to the interurban wrecks. There 1b something wrong and the traveling man should not have to take his life in his hands every time he gets on an interurban car. Who wants to be state president? "Billy" Chambers of Terre Haute, our present genial state secretary and Frank Heinbaugh, of Muncie, are candidates for state secretary and treasurer. Two mighty good men to select from. M. L. Osbcrn of Indianapolis was in town Thursday sporting a brand new pipe. And by the way, his friends could notice the fact too. Chas. A. Quaker City Council never fails to meet on the first Saturday evening of each month. The exact time and place for the memorial services have not been settled yet by the council. While no one has answered the call of the Reaper, in number 27, yet all over the country charters are draped and the boys who last year reverently stood with bowed heads in memory of departed U. C. T. brethren are today numbered with those who have "gone to that bourne" whence no traveler returns and to them we owe a passing thought while we are permitted to meet together on this side. DONT BE GLUM. Every body has a trouble of his own that troubles him So then friend just keep your trouble to yourself. You will be surprised to find how quickly you'll forget them too. If you'll push them all way back on memory's shelf. There's more room in this old world of ours for folks that's always glad Than for them that's always glum and lookin' blue Work hard at bein' gay Make good, then, friend its certainly up to you. You can't always feel like laughin' and a jollyin' along, But like children you can play at make believe. And folks will like you better and be glad to have you 'round. After a roll they give themselves a shake or two to remove anything adhering to the coat. The habit is of much service to horses living in open plains. On being turned loose at the end of a Journey an Arab horse rolls ia the sand, which acts as blotting paper, absorbing exudations from tho body. A shake removes the sand, and the coat soon dries. Cavalrymen in hot climates sometimes put sand on their horses as the simplest and quickest way of drying them. Sel borne Magazine. CHICHESTER S PILLS Chi bora, Mated wft Bin Klbbaa.'
