aisles cleared. Mr. Sims shouted back that he was not going to "but in," and that Cockrum, should have the aisles cleared himself. Extra squads of policemen were summoned, but were unable to restore order. Horace Stiliwell, of Anderson, a Roosevelt leader, was then called to the chair and urged the convention to ' hear Senator Wood through. Shouts of "never, we won't hear him" and "Beverfdgo and Roosevelt," were hurled back at him. "Jim" Watson Takes a Hand. Finally Stilwell did restore order after further pleading that it was the convention's duty to hear its chairman. When Chairman Wood finished speaking he presented John B. Cockrum, chairman of the committee on credentials, who made the majority report which seated practically all of the contested Taft delegates In the convention. Horace Stiliwell of Anderson presented the minority report iof the committee and moved its subistltution for the majority report. Former Congressman "Jim" Watson

NO WORDS WASTED.

A Swift Transformation Briefly Discribed. About food, the following brief but emphatic letter from a Georgia woman goes straight to the point and is convincing. "My frequent attacks of indigestion and palpitation of the heart culminated in a sudden and desperate illness, from which I arose enfeebled in mind and body. The doctor advised me to live on cereals, but none of them agreed with me until I tried GrapeNuts food and Postum. "The more I used of them the more I felt convinced that they were just what I needed, and in a short time they made a different woman of me. My stomach and heart troubles disappeared as if by magic, and my mind was restored and is as clear as it ever was. "I gained flesh and strength so rapidly that my frends were astonished, Postum and Grape-Nuts have benefitted me so greatly that I am glad to bear this testimony." Name given by Postum Co., Battle Creek, Mich. "There's a reason," and it is explained in the little book, "The Road to Wellville," in pkgs. Ever read the above letter? A new one appears from time to time. They are genuine, true, and full of human Interest.

The Theaters

The Murray is all right this week. But why don't the vaudevillalns get up something new? Really new. Not warmed over. However this may be merely the jaded theatrical appetite of the professional vaudeville-goer. Maybe its theatrical spring fever. Or vaudeville spring fever. For vaudeville, oftener than not, has little to do with theatrics. However there are some things that aren't so bad. In fact well enough. Among them the LeRoy Sisters, one of whom Is a genuine comedian and dances most extraordinarily. Her burlesque of the Merry Widow waltz is vastly amusing as are her other Apache-like contortions. This girl Is uncommonly good. The other acts as a foil. ' A sketch by Goodrich and Lingbam has a certain cleverness on the part of the man not often seen in vaudeville of this character and the girl who Impersonates several characters does so with; much theatric vivacity. , A black face comedian is the usual thing and takes with the audience, while "Won by Wireless," presumably the headllner, is an amuBing, If somewhat inchoate sketch. ' In the latter a certain Johnny Eckrt supposedly this is the "Johnnie" of the program although, as hitherto stated, vaudeville programs are entirely cryptic does an enormously diverting characterization. A German is he

and very skillfully imjtates a person of this nationality floundering in the Eng

lish morass.

Several people with him sing well and the recall at the end Is for the

quintet number. They should respond. I That's what people want to hear. ' E. G. W.

WOMEN WITNESSED

BURGLAR WORKING

With no protection of any kind, no

help, and afraid to call for help Mrs.

Elmer Cox and her niece, at their

home, 26 South Ninth stree, Friday night, about 11:45, watched ' the efforts of a stranger to force an entrance into the house by way of the windows.

The burglar tried for half an hour to

Jimmy several windows but was un

successful. The frightened women also saw him try windows and doors

of nearby houses, but without success.

Mrs. Cox was about to retire Friday

night, when she heard a slight noise

at a north window. She crept to the

window of her room, and saw a man

trying to lift the windows with a small iron bar.

No mention of the attempted rob

bery was made to the police. The man Is described as of about medium stature, with a dark slouch hat, and a dark suit. He wore no overcoat al

(Continued from Page One.) by the respective county chairmen. His motion prevailed. Charles F. Hernly nominated Judge Edward Jackson of Newcastle, as the Taft candidate for the committee on resolutions, while T. J. Morgan of Hancock county nominated T. E. Bryson of Fayette county as the Roosevelt candidate. The vote was as follows: Bryson. Jackson Fayette .11 Franklin 7 Hancock 10

Henry 6 Rush 3 11 Shelby 6 9 Union 5 Wayne 22 - 4

58 36 Twelve votes for Jackson were not counted as they are in contest. The work of nominating a member of the committee on resolutions was taken up amidst much clamor and noise. Frequent appeals were made by the chair to the squads of patrolmen in the room to clear the aisles. E. F. Warfel, of Richmond, was then nominated as a member of the committee on credentials by the Roosevelt forces, while A. L. Riggs of Rushville, and bosom friend of James E. aWtson, was placed in the field by the Taft men. Warfel won, 51Ho 34. James F. Reed of Hancock county was the Roosevelt candidate for the committee on rules and organization, while the Taft men nominated Elmer Bassett of Shelbyville. Reed won, 58 to 48. Call Rump Convention. The Taft faction was clamoring wildly at this juncture and Charles Hernly of New Castle asked all members of the faction to stay in the room as another convention would be held. Shouts of derision from the Roosevelt forces greeted Mr. Hernly and Chairman Jessup asked the officers to eject Mr. Hernly from the room. "You are not a delegate," shouted a Roosevelt man. "I am a delegate,"

shouted Mr, Hernly, "and I have a proxy in my pocket. Let all Taft men stay here in this room." Thomas Jessup was nominated for vice president and Zell C. Swain was nominated for assistant secretary of

the state convention by the Roosevelt forces while the Taft men were shouting at the top of their voices. Mr. Jessup then declared the convention, adjourned. While more than 200 men were crying wildly Elmer Bassett mounted a chair in the front of the room and made a warm speech, in which he declared that the convention did not smack of true Republicanism. His remarks were greeted by cries of disap

proved by the Roosevelt men while the Taft leaders usged him to proceed. Select a. Taft Slate. .While the Roosevelt men were howling .wildly the Taft men selected James J. , Jones of Newcastle as permanent chairman and A. L. Riggs of Rushville as permanent secretary.

LThe following Roosevelt men were el

ected in short order. . Member of Committee on Resolutions Edward Jackson, Newcastle. Member of Committee on Credentials A. L. Riggs, Rushville. Member of Committee on Rules and Organization Elmer Bassett, Shelbyville. Vice President of Convention John Y. Poundstone, Richmond. The noise was so deafening that an adjournment was taken before an assistant secretary was nominated. Elmer Bassett handed out the credentials to the members of the Taft faction later. Charles H. Campbell one of the managers of the Roosevelt campaign in Indiana, whose home is at Shelbyville, effected the compromise over the contest of the Shelby county delegation with Mr. Bassett representing the Taft forces.. It was said that District Chairman Meredith had stayed away from the convention purposely as he did not want to take sides.

FARMERS ANXIOUS FOR WARM WEATHER

"Farmers are eagerly awaiting the opening of the weather that they may repair the damage to their fences and drains caused by the storms of this winter. Drainage systems have been ruined, many farmers report, the freezing and thawing causing the drain tiles to freeze up and break. Farmers along the river report heavy damages to their fields. The high water washing in the . banks, and the thawing after the banks had been frosen caused large areas to fall off into the river. Many fences were carried out by the high waters, and the damage of this winter will be long remembered among the farmers of the county.
