"Gentlemen: Thinking that perhaps a short history of the remarkable cure of my mother-in-law (Mrs. Anna Govrt) might benefit some other sufferer. I hereby give the following testimonial: About September 10. 1 SOS. she was taken sick with Catarrhal Pneumonia.
and continually grew worse, requiring a trained nurse, isignt sweats were so bad that it was necessary to change her clothing once or twice every night: her cough increased and got so bad that everybody expected that she would not 'live mu'-h longer. The trained nurse (Miss Anna Trinen) Informed me that she had Tuberculosis and nothing could be done for her. In January, when Kev. Wm. Berg, of rU. Michael's Church, at Hherevllle, Ind., prepared for her death, he recommended that I get some Kckman's Alterative, and see if it would not give her some relief. I then requested the attending physician to give his diagnosis and he Informed me that she had Consumption and was beyond all medical aid. When I asked if he thought that it was useless to try the Alterative, he replied that 'No physician could help her any and I could suit myself about It.' So I Immediately had Rev. Wm. Berg to send for a bottle. Practically without hope for recovery. I insisted that she try the Alterative, which she did. At the end of the first week's treatment, she got so bad that ahe refused to take any more of It. but the doctor advised her to keep on taking it. as It was the only thing that might help her. I am glad to say now that she kept on and soon began to Impreve. Now, she works as hard as ever, weighs twenty pounds heavier than she ever did before she took sick, and Is in good health. She frankly says she owes her life and health to Kckman'a Alterative. We keep it on hand at all times and recommend it highly. ., ,, Signed Affidavit) JOS. GRIMMER.. WAY TO KEEP OVERSHOES ON Pennsylvania Woman Designs Band to Fit Around Ankle With Hook Fastened to Button. Any person wbo has ever bad an overshoe come off while crossing 'a muddy street will appreciate the fastener device designed by a Pennsylvania woman to prevent this annoying accident. An elastic band fastens around the ankle and this supports a suspender-like arrangement at the heel of the overshoe. Attached to one side of the gumshoe is another elastic supporter, with a book which engages a button on a button shoe, or a book on a lace shoe. It takes only a few seconds to fasten the overshoe on with these devices, and It Is worth the trouble. After a rubber has once come Fastened In a Twinkling. off In the mud, and it usually does this when you are going somewhere you want to look your best, there is not much use In putting it on again. The attachments are made so that they can be removed from the overshoe when not needed and quickly put on again. THEORY OF EARTH MOVEMENT Sir George Darwin, Noted English Sci entist, Delivers Interesting Address en Tides. 8lr George Darwin, the noted scientist, who waa the guest of the Authors' club In London recently, delivered an Interesting address on his theory of the tides. Everybody knows that the tides are due to the moon's attraction. In the tidal motion tbe movement of the water causes friction and a consequent slowing down of the motion of rotation of the earth, as a brake would do. Tbe effect, though almost Infinitesimal, becomes appreciable la time, although It has not yet been measured. But It must exist, and this alowlng down being due principally to the moon It must be accompanied by a re action on It. with the reeult that the moon will move further and further away from the earth, owing to the yielding of the system. The opinion of many authorities Is that the moon waa shot off from the earth at the portion now filled by the; Pacific ocean. As It Is still moving further away and the rate of rotation of the earth diminishing the time will come when the length or the day and that of the lunar month will be the same, and tbe earth and moon will again revolve aa a rigid body. When that, occurs the day will be 55 times aa ioag as our present day. But the sun also produces tides andsimllar effects, though' on a smaller scale. So the year, too, will be lengthened. The microscopic dot or earliest germ of vitality Is the marvel of science .today.. traROM the final .reports submitted r by inspectors covering- tbe arrests for the fiscal year it has been ascertained that the promoters of fraudulent schemes who have been put out of business during the past year have obtained approximately 177,000.000 from the public" This Is the astonishing statement made In the annual report of R. S. Sharp, chief postofflce inspector. It will probably be incredible to tbe average person that there are enough "easy marks" in tbe United States to contribute $77,000,000 to operators of "get-rich-quick" projects, but, according to tbe chief Inspector, this amount does not represent nearly all that went into the pockets of swindlers. The $77,000,000 is the profits of those who have been caught, and does not take in those who are still operating. "These fraudulent schemes," said Chief Inspector Sharp, "cover a wide field and are of endless variety, from the simplest business transaction to a gigantic project involving tbe sale of White Ants. The tallest structure, compared with the size of tbe builder, is tbe hill of the termites, or white ants. If the houses of men were proportionately lofty tbe humblest residence would be a mile high.
