DULL TOSSED HEAD ' VHEIIJO SHOT Rifle Bullets Flattened Out and Dropped from Bony Cranium.
MUNCIB. Ind., Jan. 3. A bull that apparently cares no more for bullets than It does for bee stings and that fairly eats the leaden pellets when they are fired Into It for the purpose of converting It Into beef, Is the worry of a local firm of butchers. The animal, which is savage, is owned by J. M. Hartley, six miles north of here, and Hartley sold it to the butchers. For three or four days tne bull has successfully resisted the efforts of eight men to kill It. and still ctruts about Its enclosure, king of the pasture, although its bead Is full of bullets. The first attempt to kill the animal was when three employes of the butchering establishment, all heavily armed with rifles, went to the Hartley farm and began a bombardment. After they had fired a number of shots Into the animal's head with no effect except to make it angry and paw the earth, the butchers became discouraged and came back to rown for reinforcements. The following day two other butchers, armed with larger bore rifles, went to the farm and flreed a doien bulleets Into the bull. These seemed to annoy the animal somewhat, for It bellowed and ran to the rail fence where the "hunters" were sitting, and caused them to make a hasty get-away. An express rifle will be used on the animal as soon as one can be obtained. The leaden diet has not interfered with the bull's appetite. One of the final steps looking to the complete rehabilitation of the Seaboard Air Line railroad waB taken today when when the proposal to dissolve the Seaboard company was ratified by the stockholders. The Seaboard company was organized in 1905 for the specific purpose of reorganizing the Seaboard Air line, which was then insolvent. This purpose has been carried to a auccessful conclusion. All that now remains to be done Is the final distribution of the stock holdings of the Seaboard company among the stockholders of the railroad company. There are a great many policemen to the streets of the City of Mexico, for the government considers It desirable to know all that Is going on. nnd at night there is one at every corner. Each carries a lantern, which is generally placed in the middle of the intersecting streets. There are only two uses for the lantern first, to let the thieves know where the guardian of the law Is, and, second, ns the policeman Is generally sitting on the pavement leaning against one of the houses asleep It enables the tourist to find him and wake him up and make him tell where the tourists' hotel is. The annual meeting and luncheon of the New Jersey Society, Sons of the American Revolution, were held in this city today. The leading feature was an address by Adjutant-General Wilbur F. Tells you the kidneys need help For backache is really kidney-ache. A kidney cure is what you need. Doan's Kidney Pills are for sick kid neys. For backache and urinary ills. Richmond people recommend the remedy. Benjamin F. Lunsford, Twentieth and South C streets, Richmond, Ind., says: "The statement I gave for publication in 1906, recommending Doan's Kidney Pills, ttold of my experience with them and at this time I am glad to confirm all I then said in their fa vor. I was bothered by kidney trou ble off and on for at least fifteen years and whenever I caught cold, my back became bo lame and painful that I could hardly get around. At times the kidney secretions were profuse, then again scanty and distressing. Doan's Kidney Pills, procured at A. G. Luken & Co.'b Drug Store, relieved me promptly and once or twice since then, I have taken this remedy with good results." For sale by all dealers. Price 50 cents. Foster-Milburn Co.. An Interesting reminiscence of Abdul Humid, the former sultan of Turkey, who was known as Abdul the Accursed and by several other more or less unpleasant titles, la given ln the description of a visit to Vlldiz Kiosk by Colonel (Count) Oleic hen ln the Household Brigade Magazine. "The bouse was a perfect labyrinth of small rooms." be writes. "In no fewer thnn seven of these rooms were beds on which the sultan used to sleep not ordinary beds, but large couches, sloping at n considerable augle from the bead end downward, so that, covered with a quilt or two, bis majesty could sleep in a semi-upright condition and spring up at n moment's notice to be ready for anything. "No one knew In which of the seven rooms the snltan was going to sleep, for he changed bis resting place every night for fear of hidden dangers. Along the main passage which led past many of these rooms a most Ingenious arrangement existed for giving warning of the approach of any one. The floor was composed of loose planks under the carpet, so that merely to walk along It started a clanking sound which must invariably have waked a light and nervous sleeper." OYSTER ISLANDS. Their Qrowth Is Exactly Analogous to That of Coral Reefs. Oyster Islands similar to those form ed of coral are found in several parts of the world. The islands in Newport river and Beaufort harbor. North Carolina, says a writer in the Century Path Magazine, have been discovered to have as base a reef to which the pawn were attached and above this, layer upon layer of oysters, vegetable growth and debris brought by the action of the waves and winds, all of which finally grows high enough to rise above the surface of the water. This growth Is exactly analogous to that of the coral islands of the Pacific. The islands near the mouth of the river Tagus, In Portugal, are said to hove been bnilt op in this way also. Here, where there Is such a quantity of oysters that 100.000.000 a year would scarcely be missed if they were removed, the expanse of water just beyond the river's mouth is dotted with oyster Islands. As in the case of the coral reefs, which on the seaward side may be covered with living, growing coral, live oysters thrive in the same waters where the accumulation of dead generations has served to form the Islands. "Miss Nobody From Starland." By no means is "Miss Nobody From Starland," the phenomenally successful Mort H. Singer musical comedy, like any of the many other noted Singer productions. It is different, in story scenes, novelties and music, and that is wnat mases it a dominating attraction wherever it is presented. In writing the book and lyrics, Messrs. Hough Adams and Mitchell happily avoided the beaten tracks of musical comedy, and evolved a story which for originality of these places "Miss Nobody from Starland" in a class by itself. That popular writer of song hits, Joseph E. Howard, followed suit, and presented the whirlwind revue with some of his best music. "Miss Nobody from Starland," will be seen at the Gennett theater on Saturday afternoon and night. At The Murray. The subject was a mau. thirty-six years old. whose thigh was amputated. The operation was successful, and Liston uttered the epilogue. "Thi.s Yankee dodge, gentlemen, beats mesmerism boiler."
