FOUR HOODLUMS TO BE HUliUll FRIDAY Boy Slayers of Chicago Produce Merchant to Die for Brutal Crime.
(National Nw. Association) CHICAGO, Dec. 21. The flrBt Quadruple execution that has taken place In Chicago since the Haymarket anarchists died on the gallows in the late eighties is scheduled to take place tomorrow morning in the Cook County jail-yard. The four men, or rather youths, who are destined for death by the noose unless an eleventh hour respite is granted are Ewald and Frank Shiblawski, brothers, and Philip Bommerling and Thomas Schultz. The youngest of the quartet is 18 years of ge and the oldest is scarcely out of tils teens. The crime for which the four were condemned to death was the brutal murder of a truck farmer named GuelBow on the outskirts of the city early last October. The man was driving a wagon full of garden produce when the boys set on him for the purpose of robbery. The boys were armed with a club, knife, revolver and hammer. When the victim alighted from his wagon he was struck down with a club. He pleaded for his life on his knees, offering the boys all bis possessions, because he had a wife and baby a month old at home, but the answer of the youths was to beat him Into unconsciousness. Then he was tabbed four times and was dead when found. Three of the boys were arrested a few hours later while they were trying to sell the farmer's team to a horse trader. At that time the police did not know there had been a murder committed, having arrested the hoys as horse thieves. Later the prisoners confessed and implicated the father defendants. Their trial and conviction followed within little more than a month. Two other boys, each lxteen years old, were implicated in the murder. On account of their youth the two escaped the death sentence and are now serving life terms In prison. When you have a bilious attack give Chamberlain's Tablets a trial. They lire excellent. For sale by all dealers. ASKS DAMAGES FOR DEATH OF HUSBAND Alleging gross negligence on the part of the city and the Richmond Light, Heat and Power company, suit for $10,000 damages was instituted in the circuit court Wednesday by Mrs. Iva May Rau, administrator of the estate of her late husband, Ora Rau, who was shocked to death at 120 Williams street, September 5. Wires of the municipal and the private power companies crossed and Rau who was delegated to look for trouble in the light system in a house at 120 Williams street, touched a brass socket, receiving sufficient shock to cause instant death. The Heart Breakers'9 at the Gennett Christmas

GEORGE DAMEREL built about an organization of young men who seek to revenge jiltings, by kissing the young women who have wounded their hearts. In seeking revenge upon one particular girl, the leader of the organization loses his own heart. The Chicago American seems to sum up the "Heart Breakers" in the statement that "it is a spring-scented June-time play. There is an atmosphere which is found only in mellow June moon9." The Inter-Ocean refers to the Singer production as "a nervously active, well judged, riotous charge upon the strongholds of boredom and weariness." And the Evening Post says "The Heart Breakers" in many respects the most ambitious of all the Singer offerings." There are numerous song hits among them being "Somewhere She's Flirting With Someone." "The Songs You Used to Sing to the Girls You Used to Love," "If I Had a Hundred Hearts," "I'd Leave My Honeymoon for You" and "My Honolulu Honey Lou." There are two acts the first taking place at the Saxton Club in New York and the second at Munger Castle in the Adriondacks. On account of the holiday the matinee will begin at 3 o'clock. Five hundred gallons fresh oysters for the holidays at Prices. 19-3t COLONEL CASEY TO RETIRE FROM ARMY (National News Association) WASHINGTON, D. C. Dec. 21. The active career of one of the best known and most efficient engineering officers of the United States Army practically closed today, when Col. Thomas L. Casey was relieved of his duty in charge of river and harbor works at Baltimore and granted leave of absence until March 1. On the lastnamed date he is to be placed on the retired , list on his own application, after more than thirty-six- years' service. Col. Casey is a son of the late Gen. Casey, chief of engineers, who completed the Washington Monument and the Congressional library. In addition to his regular military duties Col. Casey served with the expedition to observe the transit of Venus in 1882. He has been a member of many important engineering boards in various parts of the country. During the war with Spain he was in charge of the submarine defenses of Hampton Roads. Nunnally's Fine Candy. Dickinson Pharmacy. 19 u NAPOLEON LOVED SNUFF. ' And He Pinehsd the Boxes as Well as tho Pungent Dust. Napoleon loved snuff; not only on the battlefield, but at home in the council, be had recourse to the dust, especially when his schemes were unfavorably received and he wished to hide his uneasiness or Impatience. Unable to ait still in his elbow chair, be would try In a thousand ways to divert attention from himself, and among other devices, as soon as he saw a member's eye fixed on him would hold out his arm and shake his thumb and forefinger, to signify that he wished for a pinch of snuff. Not less than four, and even six, snuffboxes disappeared in this manner during a single sirring, and it was not till be had left the council chamber that he became aware of the larceny. So confirmed was this habit that some of the councilors, whose snuffboxes were heirlooms or presents from foreign princes, hit upon the expedient of carrying cheap papier macbe or wooden boxes for the emperor to pocket The snuffboxes, however, always returned to their owners and in doing so were often found to hare undergone a very pleasant metamorphosis. By some necromancy a wooden or tortoise shell box, on coming out from the Imperial pocket, was usually transformed Into one of sold, set around with diamonds, or bearing the emperor's miniature oa the Ud. MISBEHAVING EYES WILL BEjXPEHSIVE Kansas City Magistrate Sets Scale for Misdemeanors Kisses Free.
KANSAS CITY, Dec. 21 Neatly catalogued and price-marked like remnants on a bargain counter, minor infractions of the law in this city have been reduced to a "sound financial basis." In future the man who would carry a revolver, wink at pretty girls or otherwise run counter to the strong arm of the law had best consult the market rates on these offenses to learn whether he can afford the luxury. Municipal Judge Carlisle is the magistrate who conceived the idea of listing and having a fixed price or "fine list" for the numerous offenses that are committed every day. Of course, he explains, circumstances alter cases and the fines may be varied to fit each case. If there is an epidemic of winking, due to anything but particles of dust in the air, the price probably will soar from $100 to $125, $150, or even $200 for each offense. The regulation charge for this questionable privilege, however, is $100, ' nnnnlnn- V 'tir.r. list " niiwiuiug tuc ituc 1101. Careful perusal of the list indicates that there probably will be an epidemic of public kissing in the parks juBt as soon as the spring lover season opens up. For the judge has put public park kissing on the free list. There is a tariff of $10 per kiss provided, however, for those whose modesty causes them to seek the friendly cover of foliage. Here is a part of the tariff list that has been posted in Judge Carlisle's court where offenders may read and take warning : Carrying a revolver, $100. Writing on buildings or sidewalks with chalk, $25. Loafing in public places, $100. Talking "sassy" to women in stores or other public places, $25. Porters talking in a rude or ungentlemanly manner, $10. Running races in the streets, $20. Letting a goat run in public places, $5. tawns, $10. Throwing chewing gum on the sidewalk or in street cars, $5. Stealing a gate, $10. Pulling pickets off a fence, $5. Having a pig pen on the place, $25. The price of $10 set upon the offense of rude or ungentlemanly talk by porters was greeted with smiles of approval by all who entered the court today. Fixing a prohibitive rate upon the throwing of gum on the sidewalk is expected to discourage gum throwing in the future. But a $10 fine for stealing a gate is looked upon as interfering with the constitutional rights of youngsters who otherwise could not "celebrate" Hallowe'en night. It is expected that a delegation of youthful residents of Kansas City will call upon the magistrate and ask him to reconsider that rate and make the fine ten cents instead, in order that the gate stealing pastime may be placed within the reach of the common people. WANT TO PRESERVE OLD SCHOOL HOUSE In order to preserve the Bear Creek school building in Jefferson township as a memorial to the earlier school history of Western Wayne county, a movement to subscribe a large fund to purchase the building will probably be consummated at the spelling match to be held at the school building Thursday evening. All former students of the school are urged to attend and assist in the arrangements. If purchased it will be used for public gatherings in the future. The building has been in disuse for school purposes since September when a more modern building was dedI icated. The old building was built in 1857. It is a substantial building and the former pupils, especially the older students, dislike, for sentimental reasons, to see the building destroyed. It will be put up at public sale on December 28. The prize which will be given the best speller will be some article of cut glass. never Neglect HEADACHES Thev're nerve-rackinz and indicate hidden trouble. Whatever the cause.
