BLOCK IS BURNED r Old Hotel Property Totally Destroyed by a Mysterious Blaze.
MILTON, Ind. Dec. 13 With the old hotel block in ruins as a result of a Are early this morning, residents of this place are devoting their attention to ferreting out the cause for the destructive blaze, which at one time threatened the destruction of the entire business section of the town. So far as the investigation has gone the origin of the fire has not been determined but there is a strong suspicion that it was incendiary. The loss will amount to several thousand dollars, partially covered by Insurance. The brick business block, which is in total ruins, was owned by Snow and Prltchard of Knightstown and was valued at $5,000, with $2,000 Insurance. Grant Stanley, who handled Implements and hardware and rented two of the rooms, will have a loss of perhaps several hundred dollars, although most of his merchandise was gotten out before being damaged greatly. He also carried insurance.
which may cover his Iobh. Tlic busi
ness Men's club and the high school basket ball team, both of which organizations had quarters in the buildings, did not have their property badly damaged. Residents near the block were awakened by the crackling of the flames and the bright lls?ht in their bedrooms. Bounding the alarm and calling on the Cambridge City Are department for help, the townspeople soon had most of Mr. Grnnt's merchandise In the street and were able to confine the Are to the building itself. The damp condition of the adjoining roofs also prevented a spread of the blaze. The second floor of the two-story building was empty. It is thought the lire originated on that floor. It Is the supposition that some intoxicated men Went to the rooms to sleep off their Jags and in some manner set the building on fire. The county officials will investigate. Arrests may follow and arson charges preferred against those suspected.

Scraped Flesh Of Bone Below Knee, Suffered So She Couldn't Sleep. Also Says: "I Believe Cuticura Soap Is the Best Soap Made." "Some time ago I was coming up some steps when the board crushed under me like an egg shell, and my rU'ht limb went through
to the knee, and scraped the flesh off the bone just inside and below the knee. I neglected it for a day or two, then it began to hurt
me pretty badly. I put balsam fir cn to draw out the poison, but when I had

made it smart and burn so
badly that I couldn't use it any more, and that was the fourth week after I was hurt. "Then I began to use Cuticura Ointment for the sore. It stopped hurting immediately and began healing right away. It was a badlooking sore before Cuticura Ointment healed it, and I suffered so I couldn't sleep from two days after I fell until I began using Cuticura Ointment. "Cuticura Soap la the best soap I ever saw. I have used all kinds of soap for washing my face, and always it would leave my face smarting. I had to keep a lotion to stop the smart, no matter how expensive a soap I used. I find at last in Cuticura Soap a soap that will clean my face and leave no smarting, and I do not have to use any lotion or anything else to ease it. I believe Cuticura Soap la the best soap made." (Signed) Mrs. M. E. Fairchild, 805 Lafayette St., Wichita, Kan., May 8, 1911. Cuticura Soap and Ointment are for sale throughout the world, but to those who have suffered much, lost hope and are without faith in any treatment, a liberal sample of each together with 32-p. Booklet will be mailed free, on application. Address Potter Drug & Chem. Corp., Dept. 22A, Boston.

POLITICAL GOSSIP OVER SIXTH DIST, Linus Meredith Announces Candidacy Charles Hack vs. Gray. Linus Meredith, ex-sheriff of Wayne county, is a candidate for chairman of the Sixth District Republican committee, to succeed Elmer Bassett, of Shelbyville. Asked if he thought the two delegates from the district to the Republican national convention should be instructed to vote for Taft, Mr. Meredith replied that he did net favor binding the hands of the delegates with instructions. "I'm in favor of letting them vote for the nomination of the man they think would stand the best chance of leading the Republican party to victory next fall." Mr. Meredith frankly admitted he did not think he would stand much chance of being elected chairman, because Wayne county is not in the good graces, politically speaking, of the other counties in the district. The Connersville News, (Stand pat Republican), contributes the following: The war is over but not in Sixth District Democratic circles, says the Kushville Republican. Charles Hack, of Shelbyville, former prosecuting attorney of the Rush-Shelby judicia! circuit, is now a full fledged candidate for the Democratic district chairmanship. He was heartily indorsed by the Shelby county Democratic central committee at a meeting of that committee Saturday. The principal significance to the indorsement of and the entering into the Sixth District political arena of Charles Hack is the fact that he is opposed to the re-nomination of Finly Gray, of Connersville, the present
incumbent in congress. Mr. Hack has never made this statement publically, but political writers have boldly made the assertion which has never brought forth any denial from Mr. Hack. It is common talk among the Democrats that the hatchet has been buried in respect to Gray, but that it will be dug up if he seeks the nomination again in two years. It is said that Mull followers who were peeved will forgive Gray just this one time and stand by him through one more convention. But the entrance of Hack into the fight for the district chairmanship may put a new complexion on the affair. If Hack is really opposed to the present congressman and will fight in the
open and if Hack can gain any support, as it is alleged he can, in this county, the cause of Congressman Gray looks bad just at this time. It's an open question and the little battle royal promises to be a pretty one for the disinterested spectators.
