Heart to Heart Talks. By EDWIN A. NYE. Copyright, 1908, by Edwin A.Nye

WCERX IGNORANCE IS BLISS. "Where Ignorance is bliss 'tla folly to b wise," aaya the adage. Ton do not believe it? It la vitally true. There are times when the wisest thing one can do la to abut one's eyes lest one should see altogether too much. There are occasions when one can aee all one ought to see by looking the other way. For instance: You want to concentrate your thought. How will you do It? There Is only one way. Every student, every mental worker, must learn that wsy or fail of success. You must cultivate the power lo shut out the world about yoube blind to exterior happenings and focus your mind on the matter near to hand. Is it not so? If you would specialise in your work It would bo folly to be wise to the things outside your specialty. The paradox that ignorance oftentimes is wisdom Is strangely true. There be those who are forever looking for disagreeable traits In the people who surround them. If Instead of prying Into the fallings of their friends these persons would look for the amiable traits they would better aerve their friends and themselves be happier. There Is a beautiful truth In the old saying that "Love is blind." The husband who looks for the faults In his wife will end by ceasing to love her as he ought The wife who Is con tlnnally seeing her husbnd'a shortcomings is ia a fair way to destroy hex happiness. Love shuts Its eyes and doea not see the road to the divorce court. True love does not peer Into the dark corners looking for skeletons. It looks, open eyed, for the sunlight and finds It Shut your eyes to the imperfections of your friends. Opes your eyes to their graces and virtues. See only the good in your friends and they will show yon thetr good side. Be wisely Ignorant of their blemlahes and the blemishes may disappear. Anyway, it Is better to be happy la your Ignorance than miserable In yout wisdom.

This disease has killed one person every two hours in Tneaaj let

more than seven years. Last year tuberculosis claimed

the lives of 4,710 persons in this state. In 1910 2,490 children under twelve years of age were made orphans by this disease in Indiarih alone. Tuberculosis has robbed 17,363 children of father and mother in 7 years in Indiana. In three years tuberculosis has invaded 11,797 homes in this state and in many of them claimed more than one victim. Tuberculosis is costing Indiana nearly $27,500 a day, more than $10,000,000 a year. Doctors assert that tuberculosis costs the United States $240,000,000 annually. This is more than one-third the income of the U. S. Government Ten thousand persons in New York City die of tuberculosis every year. And more than half that many in Chicago. Tuberculosis destroys an entire city the size of Indianapolis every two years in the United States. Tuberculosis is caused by a very small plant organism or germ. 625,000 can be placed in a row an inch long. These small plant organisms, called "tubercle bacilli," enter the body through the nose, mouth or flesh wounds. They affect the lungs mostly. In the cells of the lungs they multiply rapidly and cause tuberculo.-ia. These disease germs which cause tuberculosis are found mostly in dry, poorly ventilated, dusty, dirty or dark placeB. Sunshine and fresh air arc the greatest destroyers of tuberculosis germs that have been found. AND the Red Cross Christmas Seals money is used to bring sunshine and fresh air and health to Indiana people, AND to fight the ravages of the disease. The Red Cross Christmas Seals Commission of Indiana, recognizes that tuberculosis is preventable and curable. The commission, under the direction of the American Red Cross, is selling the 1911 seals in every city and town in Indiana. The money raised by the Red Cross Christmas Seals will remain in this Btate and be used here to CHECK, PREVENT, and CURE tuberculosis. This will be done by teaching the people in Indiana how to avoid tuberculosis, AND By helping needy persons who are curable to regain their health. Last year 683,000 Red Cross Christmas Seals were sold in Indiana. THIS YEAR 2,000,000 seals MUST be sold. Tuberculosis is on the increase according to the Indiana State Board of Health. This means that MORE work must be done during 1912 to fight the disease and arrest its progress. THIS Indiana intends to do, but every citizen must help by buying the Red Cross Christmas Seals.

Harmon that he be pardoned at once. The good news was almost too much for Cry and iu giving his first interview he broke down and cried like a child. "If only this could have happened before my poor mother died," he said. "I've been done a terrible wrong and I don't see how I could have stood for all these years behind the bars but for my family and mother. I was thirty miles from the scene of the crime for which 1 was sent to prison, when it was committed, but 1 have paid for it." Ury will be sixty years old December 15. He was convicted with five others of murdering William Johnson in Wyandotte county. The pardon board now holds that he established a perfect alibi at the time of trial, but he was convicted on the testimony of a life term prisoner, brought from the pententiary as a witness. Another man convicted with Ury, and also held innocent by the pardon board, died in prison.
