A HEW DELAY FOR PROPOSED BRIDGE Structure Will Cost More Than $100,000 as Had Been Estimated.
Construction of the bridge over the Whitewater river, in the south end of the city may be postponed for a few yeara. principally because it is said tbe structure will cost more than a hundred thousand dollars, as estimated. Another point which may figure In the delay is the location, as the south side and west side people and the county commissioners can not reach an agreement. The county council will be in session early in January. At this time tbe councllmen will receive reports from county engineer Jack Mueller and the board of commissioners as to the probable cost of the structure, its style, and other data. The general demand seem to be that a concrete

bridge be constructed which would cost more than $100,000. Because the bridge will be a high one, and the gorge at the three proposed locations. South E street, favored by the West Richmond Improvement association; South H street, favored by some south side people, and South L street, the location do manded by other south enders, is of such a width, the engineers regard it as impossible to build a concrete btructure for $100,000. On Saturday, engineer Mueller will have some plans to present to tbe board of county commissioners. Commissioners are sorely troubled over the duty which will be imposed upon them to fix the location of the bridgp. They hope that the interested parties will get together and compromise on a location. The bridge fund as yet is not large enough to warrant construction of a bridge In the near future. With the amount which was paid into the treasury this fall there is approximately $46,000. The commissioners raised the tax levy bo that hereafter the tax payers will pay three cents on tbe hundred dollars assessed valuation into this fund, which will bring into the county about $10,000 a year. By issuing bonds the county could raise the needed amount to construct the bridge, and apply the revenue derived from the tax levy to paying off these bonds. But in some quarters objections are raised against building the bridge until the funds have been secured by taxation. -
