p. a. Notes BY W. H. Q.
After many months of earnest effort President Harrington succeeded ! In getting his board of directors together last Saturday evening. They seem to be a fairly well balanced crowd and not as bad as they look. New blinds for the front parlor, a . new linoleum la the north hall are two much needed improvements that i are promised. Also the putting of a new carpet in the secretary's room, is ! under consideration and it Is to be hoped the "watch dogs" of the treasury will feel rich enough to order this much needed improvement. Nice comfortable quarters for the winter evenings will be greatly appreciated by the active membership as well as others who come up. Harry Dickhut, representative of Kingan & Co., is welcomed as a member of Post C. Mr. Dickhut transferred his membership from Springfield, Ills., post. J. M. Lewis, M. E. Shreeve and E. E. Lebo returned last Sunday morning from the long planned fishing trip up Angola, Indiana, way. The boys said they had as many bass as the law would allow them to bring home. Considerable Investigation on the part of many friends has failed to discover any one who saw the fish but that they had them is not for one , minute disputed. Just how they were secured is probably no one's affair. They are to be congratulated on their good luck. Frank Highley returned Saturday from a trip through Illinois and, Missouri. v , The possibilities of the good to be t accomplished by an organization like the T. P. A. is a subject we think could fbe carefully considered by the officers of the Post. It has occurred to Vthe writer that conditions pertinent to the welfare of Richmond traveling salesmen could be taken up by the Membership in meetings and comImittees named to Investigate these ' conditions and many times the welfare and comfort of traveling men improved. We have various stadlng comImlttees that don't know they are in! Office. There is work for all of these fpbommittees to do. The power and influence of the T. P. A.'s of Richmond j-can well be broadened and much good accomplished in various matters that ome up in the life of the traveling j,en would be considered and comSnittees put to work to remedy evils r'that afect their welfare. We would fsjuggest to President Harrington and his board of directors that they think of these matters and encourage acf. lion. The field that comes within the Jurisdiction of the local post, T. P. A. ;',ls much broader than we realize at Pfflrst blush.' Shorty Shreeve now walks in the train with nothing to prevent the rain tfrom soiling his complexion. Mrs. S. ".has recently developed a very charitarbje disposition in the matter of don- ? Ming umbrellas to traveling umbrella ; menders, having thus disposed of all ,$e "shower sticks," Shorty got with Jfcbacco tags. Tags are no longer good JfJjyT umbrellas, so Shorty is doomed f t$ travel down the balance of life's pathway with no protection unless tfce nimble umbrella mender will get ? conscience stricken and return the .property. Mrs. S. says "never again." Next Saturday is "Boosters Day" for ;flpst C. ' Chairman Worth of the entertainment and reception committee will have a meeting of his committee and the ladies committee Monday evening. 'Arrangements for the Ladies night entertainment will be the subject for 'consideration. fc S. S. Ford of Indianapolis, was in .town Monday. Sam looks as fat, neat aod prosperous as ever. ' Do you know that 'Hp. "There are one hundred ambulanJess In New York City kept busy daily conveying the injured to their homes jjgd hospitals. Revival of The Dainty Old World Accessories. CHABMTWO FICHU DISIGWS. The most distinctive of the new flchua is the model with jabot ends. Tills dainty accessory is of sheer handkerchief linen and suggests a Dutcb neck at the back. A slide of lace takes the place of a brooch fastening. Another charming fichu is the Charlotte Cordny of handkerchief linen trimmed with real ciuny lace. A sailor collar almost reaches the waist in the back, and the little tabs In front ure modestly folded under a huge breast pin. A Nursery Romano Much hps been written anent a suitable bride for the Prince of Wales, but no one who has discussed the subject in print seems to be aware of the nursery romance which started when the little Grand Duchess Olga. eldest daughter of the czar and czarina, was at Balmoral with her parents. The Prince of Wales, a baby, too, took a violent fancy to his small second cousin. In those days the Grand Duchess could not talk, so she only laughed and put her tongue out at her would be suitor. A few years ago, when the czar and czarina brought over their family in the imperial yacht to Cowes, Prince Edward again' met the grand duchess, who lvgro wing oip to be a tall girl, the Image of her mother, aod his royal highness, boy like, fought rather shy of her. But onlookers, nt usual, seeing most of the game, noted that be cast many admiring glances ui his pretty cousin and she at him. It's Plain, but Very Smart, If this attractive suit, which is the creation of a famous French dressmaker. Is to be taken as a harbinger of fall styles all women will rejoice In the tailored trlmness and grace that are theirs. The lines of the suit are smart and distinctive. The coat Is an admi AH AOTVMS TAILORED BUTT. rmbl length and is just loose enough to be comfortable for everyday wear. The skirt is particularly good looking and. while narrow enough to suggest slenderness. Is not extreme. This natty little suit is built of novelty mohair, which has all the appearance of cheviot, but sheds dust more readily. PROBATE NEWS. Judge Fox has approved the peUtion for probate in the matter of the estate of King D. Hadden, the Dickinson Trust company being appointed administrator. PeUtion 'for administration papers, filed by the Dickinson Trust company, in the matter of the estate of Alvin R. Galyean, who was suffocated by gas at the Heat and Power plant some Ume ago, has been approved by Judge Fox in the Wayne circuit court.

The law raises peculiar safeguards round the person of the English sovereign In case of sickness. They are mere survivals in the present settled order of government, but at one time the opportunity which the king's incapacity afforded aspirants to the throne or treason makers to shorten his days at a minimum of risk of detection made the precautions reasonable. "If the king be taken sick." says Coke In his "Institutes," "there ought to be a warrant issue from the privy council, addressed to certain physicians and surgeons, authorising them to administer to the royal patient po tiones, syrupos, laxltavas, medldnaa, etc. Still, none of these should be given except by consent and advice ot the council, and they ought to set down in wriUng everything done and administered, and tbey should compound all drugs themselves and not Intrust their preparation to any apothecary." Coke wrote thus of precedent in the year 1610, and today the law Is practically as he found it, although at the present time in practice the privy council simply hears reports of the progress of the king's malady and leaves actual treatment entirely to the physicians in direct charge of the case. Exchange. GIANT TREES OF JAMAICA. They 8hsd Masses of Beautiful tttk Cotton Every Year. The silk cotton trees of Jamaica are one of the most striking natural features of this beautiful island, and visitors express much curiosity concerning them. The fiber of the cotton; is too short for textile uses, bat Its quality 1 delicate and flnev The .trees are most . interesting i in structure. They reach' a height of 90ft or 300 feet. It Is the largest tree on the island, and the branches often overhang more than an acre of ground. Some of them are centuries old, dating back to the landing of the Spanlards. Tbey have withstood the tropical winds of the region through the adaptation of their structure. The leaves are very few, and there are heavy masses of roots. , ; This giant tree flowers once a year. It bears a number of pods much the size and shape of a cucumber. These pods dry and burst, and out floats the beautiful cream colored silk cotton, covering the ground and sailing In tile air for some distance. The seeds, of course, are borne on the silky filaments. This cotton is used at present only for pillows. Its use as guncotton has been spoken of. The trees are often felled by the native Jamaicans and bewn Into canoes, which last for generations. Christian Science Monitor. Talk about luck:" "What's happened?"
