GATES CEREMONY TO BE QUIET ONE

MINNEAPOLIS. Minn., Sept. 15. Minneapolis society folk, who may have expected to be invited to an elaborate wedding when Miss Florence Hopgood becomes the bride of Charles G. Gates, son of the late multi-millionaire, are doomed to disapointment. Instead, Miss Hopgood will become Mrs. Gates in her own home with a simple ceremony and in the presence only of members of the Hopgood and Gates families. The wedding will take place some time in October, the exact date to be fixed later. Mr. Gates is in Minneapolis today. In his private car, Bright Eyes, the son of the late financier arrived late yesterday. He is putting up at a downtown hotel. Mr. Gates' mother did not stop with him in Minneapolis, but went direct to New York city, where she will be joined later by ner son. Acording to Mrs. Hopgood, Mr. Gates is not a society man in the accepted meaning of that term and has expressed the hope that there be no "show" or ostentation attending his coming marriage. In difference to Mr. Gates' wishes there was little attempt to entertain him on the occasion of his visit here. "It has not been the wish of Mr. Gates that he be entertained in Minneapolis, and he has tried to avoid it," Mrs. Hopgood said. "He has consented only to be present at family dinners or to accept hospitality of immediate friends of the family. As we have been much taken up with the settling of our new home we have had no home entertainments for him and
