It would seem to a casual observer that this important place in our city could be made more attractive on the extension. Traveling men have to spend weary hours waiting for trains and no doubt have to frequently hang around the C. and O. A fine lobby with leather chairs as comfortable as is possible - to be found, a fine . writing room , rooms all that could be desired, a courteous landlord and clerks and a table "out of sight" Anything to eat that the human appetite could want But in the wash room was the deadly roller towel not an Individual towel in sight. Oh! why are such' things permitted to be. The state pure food authorities will tear their hair oyer dairies, grocers and demand all sorts of sanitary precautions but when it comes . to the roller towel thera is "nothing doing." "Tizzie" says it is an absolute falsehood that the street car system of Richmond is the "bummest" transportation proposition In town. Look at our jus lines. Well I guess the street railway will have to take their hats off to the aforesaid bus facilities. Ever try .to find one at the station after midnight. Ever notice the air on the inside of one. Maybe we are getting all we deserve for the price charged and ao complaint should be registered, but a tip to a live hustler Some taxicabs would "cop" a lot of traveling men's business and have the everlasting thanks of a traveling public. . There's a life size rumor going the rounds that our worthy secretary and treasurer whose hoary locks bespeak of some years of experience in this world of happiness and sorrow, is playing hide and seek with Cupid and his darts . Well I guess the post can accept an invitation to help eat cake. Be careful, Mr. Secretary, older birds than you have succumbed to that fairy gentleman and his arrows. Keep your eye on the picnic date Saturday afternoon, September the second. Let nothing prevent your" being there. Look out for the program. They say "Shorty" and his committee are preparing a "corker." , t " Did you ever happen up to the parlor of headquarters when Post C's old "scouts" get to reminiscing. Marcus

Newt Jenkins of the days in the 60's when he stole chickens and played poker with Sherman on his march to the sea. Ed Thatcher when he used to buck the shell games on the old fair grounds. John Heggar when he was a. butcher, on the corner of Pearl and Main street in the 50's. Wm. Kramer of when he wore wooden shoes tramping up and down the Rhine driving Dutch cattle to market, Jim Lewis on the art of fishing, their habits and ways. It is worth hearing and Post C might make a bunch of money to play this crowd at the Gennett some time. They have certainly got any old settlers meeting that ever met backed off. the meeting grounds. Remember the picnic and its ways. John Hegger seems to be of the decided opinion that Newt Jenkins has the meanest disposition in Richmond. It seems John desiring to make a present to his friend, William Thornburg, sent a nice bunch of Maiden Blush apples via Newt to. his friend. However, the apples William received were in a bad state of repair, while the apples started to him were very fancy. As the matter now stands there is a three cornered lot of hard feelings existing. Just why a man of Hegger's experience would entrust any kind of applest to Sials has not been explained. WRONG BELIEFS. Hosts of young men are recklea because they believe that by and by they can be what they wfl. Hosts of old men are hopeless because it seems nnpossible that they , can ever be anything but what they are. Both are wrong. Phillip
