MONKEYS JOY BENT
Escape Their Cage and View Riverside Park.-
Chicago, June 14. Riverside park is suffering from a "barrel of monkeys." Instead of being the usual laugh producer, this "barrel" is causing all sorts of trouble. It began with the entrance of fifty monkeys Into the amusement park. They were placed in a big new cage near the east entrance, but one of the guards carelessly turned his back for a moment without locking the gate. Tho next moment fifty joyous monkeys were sprinting for freedom, through the opening, and Rivervlew was swarming with monkeys. They climbed the trees and slid up and down the light poles. They grabbed peanuts from the stands and ran up and down the Derby and Royal gorge. Two llttl monks met death under the wheels of a fast sliding car on
'the Royal gorge, and one big baboon
tied up the Derby for half an hour while Rivervlew workmen, equipped with ropes and clubs, persuaded it to rook a quieter and more secluded spot. When the gates of the park closed, the monkeys were still chattering and climbing about buildings and trees. Unless some method is found to pedsuade tho animals to return to their cage the park management faces a loss of 15,000.
what should be done with the fund. The members, however, believe that as the money was subscribed to meet tho expenses of a public undertaking, that the balance of tho fund now In its hands can be used only in some project In which the people of the city as a whole are Interested. JOHNSON RECOVERS USE OF HIS LEGS
(National News Association) London, June 14. Champion Jack Johnson had gotten back his land legs and had recovered sufficiently from his attack of mal de mar contracted on the way over on board of the KronPrinz Wllhelm, to eat chicken. He started out to see the coronation decorations, accompanied by his white wife who, in turn, was accompanied by a large collection of jewelry. Johnson attracted a good deal of attention and persistent reporters interviewed him on a wide variety of topics. His automobiles will be a familiar sight in the streets of London for some time. The big champion said he would remain in England until the fight with Roy Day, the Canadian, is arranged. On June 26 he will open at Oxford music hall and later will box an exhibition bout at the Dublin horse show.

SAYS HIS FATHER NEEDS A GUARDIAN
Ralph Polk of' Indianapolis, Well Known Here, Opposes Sire's Bride.
Because of the alleged mental de
ficiencies of his father, James T. Polk, aged 67, head of a large dairy and cannery at Greenwood, near Indiana
polis, and reputed to be worth 1500,000, who was on Tuesday married to his stenographer. Miss Edna Coughlin, aged 30, Ralph Polk of Greenwood, well known in this city, his wife, who
was Miss Grace Porterneld, being a Richmond woman, filed petition in the Johnson county circuit court on Tuesday to have his father placed under the guardianship of the law, rather than his bride. The son alleges that the business cares for the past thirty years have been a constant mental and nervous strain upon his father, to such an extent that he has suffered a complete physical breakdown and impaired his mental faculties and that he was susceptible to the wiles of the stenographer, who for twenty years was a friend of the family and enjoyed all the family privileges. Mr. Polk's first wife, Mrs. Laura V. Polk, died in January, 1900, and since then he has not been actively engaged in business pursuits. The petition charges that about 20
years ago, miss cougmin was lajten, into the Polk family and that she was treated to all the pririleges of a mem
ber of the family. She remained in the family for about one year, and since then has made regular visits to the Polk home, it is said. It is alleged further that following the death of Mrs. Polk, Miss Coughlin made her home with the Polk family. The petition charges that "persistently since the death .of Laura F. Polk, said Edna Coughlin, knowing of the nervous, mental and physical condition of James T. Polk, has undertaken to and has influenced said James
T. Polk unduly with the purpose of prevailing upon him to marry her;
that the physical, nervous and mental
condition of said James T. Polk is such that there is great danger In such design and purpose being accomplished."
It is charged that during the summer
of 1910 Mr. Polk and Miss Coughlin took a trin to summer resort3 for a
period of about two months. Says Bride Spent Income.
The petition alleges that Mr. Polk has been confined to his bed for about three months on account of his mental and nervous condition. It is said that his memory is defective and that he often loses his way in places that he has frequented for many years. It is alleged that unless a guardian is appointed for Mr. Polk his property will
Buffer great and irreparable loss and
deterioration.
It is asserted that Mr. Polk has an income of about $6,000 a year, and
that Miss Coughlin has assumed con trol of its expenditure. The petition
