Fourteen of Fifteen Members of Congress Were Born in State. Washington, May 10.The new Con(reunion! Directory, which came out yesterday, shows that Indiana la represented in the halls of congress by native talent to a greater extent than any other state In the Union. Indiana has fifteen members of congresstwo senators and inirteen representatives and fourteen of theBe were born In Indiana. The sole exception Ih Representative Cline of the Twelfth District. He was born In Richland County, Ohio, but he lived la Steuben County, Indiana, from Infancy. In addition to being represented In congress by such a large percentage of native sons, Indiana has furnished two senators and seven representatives who are now in congress from other states. The senators from other states who were born In Indiana are Works of California, and Clapp of Minnesota. Works was born In Ohio County, and Clapp in Carroll County. Modesty characterizes most of the autobiographies written by Indiana
members for the directory. The acme of self-effacement Is reached In the autobiography of Representative William IS. Cox, which occupies exactly Is lines. Representative Korbley and Rauch use seven lines each. 8enator Kern occupies fifteen lines, while Senator Shlveley keeps his autobiography In twelve, lines. Senator Kern refera to the fact that he was nominated for senator by the unanimous vote of the Democratic state convention In 1910. In the autobiography which he wrote for the Congressional Directory, Adam Drown Littlepage, a new member from West Virginia, toots his own horn as follows: "Mr. Little page stands very high as a lawyer and cltlten throughout his district and state. He was a candidate for the nomination for governor two years ago, but was defeated In the convention by the Hon. Lewis Bennett. vThe sentiment la now prevailing througnout the state that had Mr. Littlepage been nominated he would have been elected. He bean the reputation of being a very grateful man, never forgetting a kindness, and is faithful In his friendships and thoroughly reliable. He stands for the underman In life, works hard, late and early as a representative and la' reflecting credit upon the country by his manly conservative and wise course In Washington as a representative of all the people. He is a patriotic man of ability and fine qualities of mind and heart."
PLAN HOME FOR IN- . DIGENT RAILROADERS (American News Service) Harrisburg, Pa, May 10. More than a thousand delegates from all parts of the United States and from Canada and Mexico are in Harrisburg attending the triennial convention of the Brotherhood of Railway Trainmen. The officials expect this to be the most Important convention in the history of the order. President Taft will be here to address the gathering Sunday. The convention will also be notable for the large number of important questions to come up for consideration and action. Among other things there will be discussed a project for the establishment of a home for aged and disabled members of the order and a sanatarium for those afflicted with tuberculosis.

REV. WHALING HEADS AN OLD SEMINARY Columbua, 8. C. May 10 The board of directors of the Southern PrcLbyterlan Theological Seminary today formally elected the Rev. Dr. Thornton-C. Whaling, paator of the Second Presbyterian church of Norfolk, Va., to be the first president of the seminary. Though the institution Is nearly 100 years old. It has never had a president, the control heretofore being vested wholly In the faculty and board of directors. Dr. Whaling will assume the presidency at the beginning of the next term In September.
