COUNTERFEIT FLOOD Bad Half-Dollars and Quarters Abroad in Texas.
(American News Service) San Antonio, Texas, April 20. For the past three months counterfeit half dollars and quarters have been numerous in certain localities in southwest Texas. Secret service men have been trying for some time to locate the source of supply, it being evident this spurious coin was made at some point in Texas. A short time ago, two men were arrested at El Paso and it was thought at that time the heads of the gang had been apprehended. Late ly, however, much of this spurious coin has been in circulation and to the two denominations named a dollar of excellent workmanship has been added. From this it is believed that the men arrested in El Paso were not the manufacturers, but merely engaged in passing the counterfeit money. A few days ago a man was arrested in Denver who, it is alleged, made the most dangerous counterfeit quarters, halves, and dollars that have ever been made in this country. Since the arrest of this man, secret service men believe that the money passed in Texas is the Colorado product. It has been learned that this money could be bought for fifty cents on the dollar. It appears that operations have been carried on not only in Texas, but in other parts of tho south among Mexicans, negroes and Italians. The coins are so perfec tly made they can not be detected by the workmanship. They are over-weight, however, and do not ring quite clearly when given the resonance test. It is believed that many thousand dollars of this spurious coin have been put in circulation. So far, detectives are at a loss to know who is responsible for the presence of this money in this part of the state.
Health and Beauty Notes By Mrs. Mae Martyn
Mrs. Ruth O.: There tan be no possible excuse for a woman of vour age neglecting her complexion. It is a duty you owe yourself to look as youthful ami charming; as possible. I would not encourage you to use face powder: it rubs off too easily, shows too readily and does no permanent good. The use of h pood lotion made by dissolving four ounces of spurmax in half a pint of hot wated and adding- two teaspoonfuls of glycerine will take away that coarse, sallow, oily look to your skin nhd make it soft, pink, and youthful. This lotion is an excellent beautifier anrwhltencr and will last longer than powder. It Is splendid for cold sores, freckles, pimples and preventing chapping in the winds. Virginia: I.ack of exercise and eating too much solid food during the winter months account for your sallow, pimply complexion and loss of energy. What you need is a reliable system tonic and blood purifier. Try this: Dissolve an ounce of kardene in a half pint alcohol, adding one-half cup sugar and hot water to make a full quart. Take a tablespoonf ul before each meal and in a short time you will feel like a new person. It will give you rich, red blood, fill you with energy and put the color and look of health into your face. Sibyl If.: It Is a shame for a girl of your age to have wrinkles. Try this complexion jelly and you will be surprised how it will clear your skin and smooth out those herrid wrinkles. This grcaseless cream jelly can be made by mixing one ounce of almazoin with half pint cold water and two teaspoonfuls of glycerine. Stir and let stand over night. This makes a splendid and in expensive crenra jelly. It will clean the pores, keep the skin free from blackheads, and is splendid for chapped hands and face. I find it excellent for reducing the size of large pores in the skin, and for removing tan, freckles and certain types of pimples. 1 recommend it for massage purposes: it leaves the skin soft and smooth and contains no grease or oil to cause hair to grow on the face. Isabel It.: l"ont be discouraged horauso your hair is dull, faded and utroaky: as you can restore its youthful. Klossyhlond tint if you steep an ounce of inarlax in a pint of water. You should first wash your head with canthrox, rinse and dry. then wash with the marlax tea. rinse again and dry carefully. lo this, and at little cost and effort your hair can he kept a Hunt, srolden shade without the least possible danger to hair or scalp. Mrs. Kdith: You can rid the chin of that fuzzv growth without resorting to the painful electric needle if you pet from $our drugrsrist an ounce of powdered delatone and with a little water mix into a stiff paste enough to cover thi' orn-ndinjr hairs. Spread on thickly and let remain two or three minutes then rub oft and wash the skin and POSTS ! We have just received TWO

you will find the hairs are gone. While delatone is a trifle expensive it does the work quickly and seldom requires a second application. Miss R. K.: The worry and bother of wearing hair nets and veils to make your hair stay up and conceal that dull, stringy, unkept appearance you speak of could easily be avoided if you would stop shampooing with soap. The algali in soap irritates the the scalp, makes the hair streaked, dull, coarse and brittle. If you will shampoo everv two weeks with a teaspoonful of canthrox dissolved in a cup of hot water, your hair will always be light, fluffv and easy to do up. besides looking decidedly neat. This shampoo lathers abundently, dries quickly, stops itching scalp and cleanses as no other shamnoo will. The luxury of extreme cleanliness of the scalp which comes from the use of this shampoo has made it so popular mat many or tne best hairdressers now use it exclusively. it is inexpensive ana can be bought at any drug store. portant factor in a beautiful face than bright, clear, youthful eyes. You should use regularly a good eye tonic. Get an of water and use two or ttirce drops in eacn eye daily. Jt will clear ana strengthen your eyes, remove all signs of weakness and inflammation and make them bright and sparkling. For weak. dull, expressionless eyes I think this tonic simply wonderful. It is very soothing and is fine for those who wear glasses. K. B. S.: Although pray hair is sometimes caused by worry . it is generally due to a diseased scalp as indicated by such symptoms as dandruff, itching scalp and brittle, falling hair of which you speak. To restore your scalp to a healthy condition, first keep It clean by shampooing every ten days or two weeks with canthrox. then massage the scalp, using a good quinine hair tonic. You can prepare the tonic yourself by adding one ounce of quinzoin to a halfpinto of alcohol and a half pint of cold water. This is much better than most ready-prepared hair tonics, as it contains nothing to make the hair coarse, sticky or stringy. It will remove the dandruff and stop your hair from coming out. Yrwi will find it an Ideal dressing for the hair and very defreshing to an itching scalp. Mrs. I.: 'What a shame to have wasted so much money in vainly trying to vet rid of your fat. I have a formula that some of my close friends have tried with marvelous success. Here it is : IMssolve four ounces of parnotis in 1 '-j pints hot water; when cold strain and take a tablespoonf ul of the liquid before each meal. This remedy will not injure your health or force you to starve yourself In order to get back your comley figure. It cuts down fat rapidly, is not expensive and will surely help you.
