THREE BACHELORS REMAINJ SENATE Retirement of Kean of New Jersey Breaks Up . a Famous Quartet.
THOUGHT HIS WIFE WAS REAL AMAZON Mrs. Marcus Roberts, a negress of this city who Is of apparently strong fighting tendencies, waylaid her husband, a well known porter at a local barber shop on South Ninth street. Thursday evening while he was on his vy home and Is alleged to have threatened to "fix him so no other woman would want him." Roberts made a hundred-yard dash in record time when his v.ifo drew from her IHK'ket-book something that looked like a dangerous weapon, and returning to Main street secured ratrolnian Mort Little to escort him home. A Llttlo and Roberts neared the house where ho l rooming. Mrs. Roberts again loomed, up In sight. Tho patrolman cautioned her about attempting to engage her husband in a fight, but she put his remarks aside with "What do you know about it?" and then disappeared in the darkness. Mrs. Roberts figured prominently in a free-for-all fight at a ball game at Athletic park lust summer and also attracted the attention of the police by a fight with Mrs. Anna Hryant on tho coiner of Ninth and Main streets not long ago. Roberts and his wife have been separated for some time. He has filed uit against her for divorce.
BY JONTHAN WINFIELD Washington, April 13. The famous bachelor quartette of the United States' senate is no more at least It is no" longer a quartet. Fate ami the decree of the voting population, or more particularly the voting population of New Jersey, has robbed that most august body of one of the eligible ones, the Hon. John Kcan,
who retired to private life on March 4 after having escaped the matrimonial lariat for T.O years, twelve of which were spent in the I'nited States senate and the society of Washington, where every effort is made to transHum the bashful bachelor into a benedict. Senator Kean, however, successfully eluded the net, although it was not infrequently reported that he was about to be ensnared, and has now returned to "mosquito land' as free and unhampered of lovely woman ur when first he essayed to become a politician. Still Staunch Trio. There Is still a bachelor trio in the I'nited States MMiate. This trio is made up of the lion. Theodore R Burton, of Ohio, the lion. Bois" Penrose of Pennsylvania, and lion. Frank B. Bandagee of Connecticut, all of them Republicans and each with a good, strong grip upon his seat in the senate and likely to remain there for onie years to come, whether they continue in the state of single blessedness or take unto themselves life partners. Moreover, equal suffrage has not made any inroads in the states which they represent, and there H no way of disposipg them from their political posts by use of the female bailor. Of course It would be considered too much of a personal matter to discuss why this trio of illustious statesmen has Been fit if any of them really have reasons to dodgo tho matrimonial yoke and the burdens and resposibil-
Ities of maintaining a family, but it is
not Improper to point out their availability and the qualities which they possess each for becoming a husband
Senator Burton has sidestepped the
advances of the ladies now for more than sixty years, and those who know

him best regard his case as utterly; hopeless and believe that he is des- j tined to go on to the end of his career in the solemnity and solitude of an unmarried man. Why he has always steadfastly refused to become enamored of some fair charmer even those who most enjoy his confidence have never been able to ascertain, and they have too much regard for his feelings to broach the subject to him. A master of tact and diplomacy, an entertaining conversationalist of surpassing originality, and possessing all the attributes which go to make a happy and contented married man, t'.ie Ohio senator is never more uncomfortable than when he is in the company of women. Nevertheless he is almost nightly the dinner guest of somo select company where there are ladies present. Not infrequently the hostess assigns him to escort some clever woman to the festal board, and the senator is always able to carry out
the obligation imposed, but it is not to his liking. Was He Too Busy. So courteous and polite are his man
ners, however, that the fair one is never aware of the embarassment and
discomfiture which her proximity is
causing the distinguished statesman
Perhaps Senator Burton has never
had time for love making, for he is a very busy man and has no idle moments. He is authority on finance and upon waterways as well as upon other subjects, and has written numerous books, including financial treaties and historical works. He also is a linguist but withal devotes himself unceasingly to the affairs of state. More hopeful, however, Is the case of Senator Penrose. He is tall, handsome, and a perfect physical speeiman of manhood. But Penrose is by natural bent a politician. Since he attained manhood, he has lived in an atmosphere of politics and conditions and circumstances have forced him into leadership in his own state, where the whor machinery of the commonwealth is resuonsive to his slightest command. He must be a busy man who manages the affairs of a great state like Pennsylvania, even to the most minute detail of Us political organization, and Penrose has therefore had little time to give to the sentimental side of life. But he is the sort of a man whom almost any young girl possessing a modicum of human intelligence woudld really take to. He possesses all the manly qualities and moreover is a man of considerable wealth. Social matters, however, give him little or no concern. He would prefer to go fishing than courting whenever he has respite from duties
of statesmanship and politics.
Senator Penrose is now the leader
of the United States senate and is so
recognized under the new organiza
tion which has placed him at the head of the committee of finance, and de-
bantees here will have to throw out tempting bait if they catch this wily bachelor. The most eligible and probably the one niost likely to be entrapped is the Hon. Frank Brandagee. Like Penrose, he too is handsome, and what most girls would declare to be the proper sort. lie does not avoid the society of women, but revels in it. but he is too foxy to permit any of the fair ones to
throw the net over his head. He is gallant and but little past forty-five.
So there is a chance for Brandagee if the right one comes along, for his
collegues do not regard him as ln mune from the wiles of cupid.

What Makes a Separator a Pro
fitable Investment
There are several very important
points to be considered in determining the true value of a cream separator. In his inexperience, the farmer buying his first machine is usually not familiar with the difference in efficiency, construction, etc in different makes of machines; hence it is not to be wondered at that mere price looms up as of seeming importance. Separator value is determined by the greatest earning capacity, consequently price Is of secondary consideration. The Inexperienced buyer following this principle will fight shy of the "low price" machine, until satisfied that it has the full earning capacity of the higher grade article. Best Separator Always the Cheapest We are now getting down to an analysis of the comparative value of different makes of cream separators. A machine that will not withstand the tert of hard conditions of milk, but loses fat under these conditions, is a failure. These conditions are met with more or less throughout the entire year and are beyond the control of the farmer. In consequence, there Is a repeated loss of fat, which means loss of profit, which in turn very quickly eats up any difference in the first cost of a "cheap machine over a good one. Anyone in the market for a separator can have a free trial of this machine by the side of any other machine made, by phoning
