Appier, of Clayton, Is mother of No. 1 of twins. . She Is a ten months old light Brahma pullett and one day she laid an egg measuring 8i inches end to end circumference, and 6 Inches side circumference. . A week later she laid another only a trifle smaller. . Appier says , these are the largest eggs of 1911 record. Another of his hens laid an egg which can almost be put through a finger ring. Its largest circumference Is eight inches. But to get back to the big egg: It was put under a setting hen and later was transferred to another hen, too keep the hatching separate. One of the twins Is like Its father, a bare legged Silver Wyandotte rooster. The other "takes after" its .first mother, and wears a feather harem skirt, just like hers. ; WANT POULTRY. London Press adopts the Sensational American Way

If, .London Is a dull town, and. all who have lived In other cities assert that it is, its news papers are In no way to blame. Our Americanised newspapers, that is to say the .papers that have adopted the worst features of the American sensational journalism without taking up any of its virtues, seem to have made up their mind, that it is bad for the Londoner to dive in peaceful enjoyment of business and pleasure, for they are -continually predicting terrible calamities about ot befall us. Last year we were kept In a state of constant fear and trepidation by the prospect of Zeppelin airships flying across the North Sea in the, dead, of night and dropping bombs into the, vaults of the Bank of England and now when we had just made up our mind to enjoy the festival of the coronation and empty the pockets of the hosts of American visitors who will soon invade the country, a sensational evening paper tells that the great black plague Is hanging over our heads like a Damocles' sword. "Rats," most of us exclaimed when we saw the headlines, hut papers answered: . : - For It is the rat which is the great source of the plague, and according to the paper mentioned within the last six months there have been plague-infected rats In the port of London, and there nave been plague-infected rata, rabbits .and cats In Suffolk, though th authorities are inclined to explain their disease as a violent form of distemper. . - - . . .... . It is said that in London alone there are 6,000,000 rats ;that is a rat for every man, woman and child inhabitant And the sooner that we "set about" this rat population the better will be our chances of escaping the plague. : There Is one grain of consolation. Fears have been expressed that the recent outbreak among dogs, cats, pigeons and bees, has some connection with the plague. The authorities are not Inclined to take ths view. The dogs and cats they sayj are probably suffering from some severe form of distemper ;the bees are dying of pneumonia, but not of pneumonic plague, while pigeons have been proved by experiment to be immune to the plague bacillus. Theoretically, the cat, like any other furry animal, may harbor the plaguestricken rat flea; but in practice the risk is so small that an Indian plague expert has advocated the importation of cats to kill the rats, but one dreads to think of the sleepless nights we shall have when more are added to the one million lovesick cats that are now prowling through the streets of London after dark. The Russian and United States armies are also entering teams, as I understand, for the first time; the former largely owing to the Influence of the Grand Duke Nicholaovith, president of the Council of National Defense and Commander of the Military Circumscription of St. Petersburg. France and Belgium are again entering teams, but the participation of Austria-Hungary and Italy Is doubtful. The officers of King Victor Emmanuuel are such accomplished masters of equitation that their absence, owing to the celebrations of the jubilee of the house of Savoy, will be greatly regretted. The Hon. Clifford Slfton, whose speech was an outstanding feature of the debate on reciprocity in the Canadian House of Commons, is attending the show again this year,' and his son Lieut Si f ton, will be in the Canadian team. The hope is also entertained that teams representing Australia and South Africa will be picked out of the troops which are coming over to attend the coronation. An invention has been made making it possible to transmit cinometograph pictures by wire and an experimental trial Is to be made on Coronation day. An attempt will be made to send views of the great event from London to Paris, and if it is successfully accomplished the films will be exhibited at the Parisian picture theaters a few hours later. The inventor of the "Cine-telegraph," as it la termed, has been ten years completing his apparatus, and has but lately succeeded In transmitting overland a film two hundred feet in length over a distance of thirty miles. ' The Coronation film, , which it is the Inventor's intention to transmit to Paris, will show the progress of the King and Queen from; Buckingham Palace to the entrance of the Abbey.

Several of the London film manurac-1 Mirers are-hopeful ot obtaining sanction to photograph the actual crowning ceremony; but if. this were granted, the insufficient lighting in the Abbey would render the taking ot films impossible. Pictures of the royal procession will be exhibited at London picture theaters the same evenins. An attempt

will also be made to show the films in Liverpool, Sheffield Leeds, Bristol and Birmingham at the evening performance. Hundreds of operators will arrive from Paris and Berlin, and will be stationed at prominent positions along the line of route.
