DARING ARMY SPY INSPECTS MEXICO Capt. Cloman, U. S. Army, Again Wins Recognition for His Feats.

WaHhington. April 7. ('apt. Sydney A. Cloman, t'. S. A., who, disKuiiscd jih "Mr. OliH, a lumberman," obtalnid valuable Information fur the war depart ment in Colombia at the, time I'rfBifletil ItooM'velt "took" the I'anHtriii Canal one, has jiiHi arrived at San Antonio, cotnlriK from laredo. tli rou k)i which he paxsed on his way back from Mexico, where he has been MndyinK problems which would confront the army In cane it advanced ncroMH the border. At the war department today It was officially mild "It la utterly untrue that ('apt. Cloman ham been ordered to do any ttttch work or that he has made nny rcortH," but it wan not denied that he had been in Mexico. Capt. Cloman was formerly military attache? at the Court of St. James, a coveted iOHt Riven to him by President Hooaevelt for the work he did in connection with the Panama trouble in i'Jif.i. lie upeclally dtHtinKuifihed lilmaelf by making a inoul darinK trip Into tho city of Cartagena and reporting Ha exact armament and how it could best be taken, lie also went Into tho Atrato country and rcorted on the BtretiRth and disposition of the forcOH Colombia had massed to subdun Panama, and which it was then believed that the American marines , would have to opjhisp. Secret Service Reports. Col. Luther T. Kllsworth, consul af TVrlrio liaz, Mexico, arrived in AVuHhlngton bringing with him a mass of eonaulaP and secret, service reiiorts. Jlo refused to make any statement hot it conditions In Mexico. (V)ndltions all over Mexico are now exeodinRly serious and it is becoming more and more apparent that nothing nhort of the abdication of ('resident Diaz ean end the trouble. ' How this in to he brought about Is a knotty

problem.

Consular reports received from all Hfexlco by the state department show-

thai the situation is unchanged since

the Diaz message which it had been

hopcd would have had a quieting ef

fect. In view of the oft-repeated assertion

4hat tho United States will intervene Jn Mexico If order Is not restored by

(May 1, It Is significant that the revolu

tlonists have tlxed April 24 as the date On which the Mexican government.

must make known Its Intentions In tho matter. Dr. Gomez, confident lal agent of Madero, said that a machine gun with

300 men had been sent by Madero to

reinforce tho revolutionary army besieging the town of OJinaga, opposite Tresidlo, Tex.

If OJinaga falls it will bring terri

tory over which tho revolutionists ex

crciso absolute authority into juxtapo

sition with tho territory of the United States and will create a condition where the American government will bo compelled to deal directly with the MJwer in control in supervising the Interests and Intercourse of American citizens in that section of Mexico. It will also give tho revolutionary purty a direct outlet for communicating with the world without going through the lines of the federal force. No further information has been received at the state department concerning the shooting of George Creichtleld of Jersey City. As no news of Ills death has been received from the consul at Tampico It was believed that tie Is still alive and may recover.

MORE MOOT NEEDED For Charitable Work in City This Spring.

I Statements that it would require an .additional sum of $-o to complete the iwork this year were made at the regular meeting of the Associated Chari'ties. According to the reiort of the .treasurer there is a balance of $120.69 j now on hand and it was estimated that the above named sum would be j necessary in addition to th;;t on hand I if the plans for charitable work were i to be carried out. j It was reported that circulars re- ! questing donations had been sent out 'to 310 people in the fall, and that of these only 234 had replied with cash or food and supplies.
