Although the office carries with it a salary of only $300 per year, fifteen persons have made application for appointment as probation officer and have filed their desires with juvenile judge. A. C. Risinger, whose appointment as such was recently made. Unless a bill now pending in the legislature is passed the appointment will be made by him. Should the bill become a law the power of appointment will be transferred to the county sheriff. In this event, it is quite likely that the sheriff will fill the office instead of making an appointment. Rev. Samuel Huddle is now probation officer. Miss Mary Fudge was a Dayton visitor Saturday. Kellam were given a surprise Monday evening by the members of the M. E. church, including several friends outside the church. The evening was most happily spent by both host and hostess and their guests. They were also in connection with the affair the recipients of many handsome and useful presents in the way of dishes, linens, kitchen utensils and other brings of like character for housekeeping which they expect soon to do. A pretty luncheon was also served. Mr. and Mrs. Ben R. Kellam who have been living with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Kellam have rented Miss Barbara Kern's property and greatly appreciate the kind remembrance of their friends. Miss Amelia Knauf was in Cambridge City yesterday on business. The Rebekah degree lodge team practiced last night. David Wise of near Beeson's station was greeting friends at Milton yesterday. V. Brown Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Lowry left today to visit Mrs. Steihl at Hamilton, Ohio. The official board of the Christian church met with the Rev. Van Winkle, pastor last evening, Karl Mueller returned yesterday from a visit with relatives at Brookville. Alvin Lowry has sold his pool room furniture to George Filby who will duct tho business instead of Mr. Lowry. Mr. Filby has rented a room in the business block of O. H. Beeson and the change in location was made yesterday. Everett Wasson of Indianapolis is visiting his grandmother, Mrs. Elwood Hussey and family west of town. The following is taken from tho Long Beach Telegram, published at Long Beach, California, and under date of Monday, March 27. It refers to Albert Williams, who recently went from here to Ixmg Beach to spend the winter with his sister, Mrs. Alice Moore. "At the home of his sister Mrs. Alice Moore, 443 West Fifth street, was celebrated Sunday the fifty-fourth birthday of Albert E. Williams of Richmond, Indiana. It is only once in a life time that a person's fifty-fourth birthday comes on Sunday, so to celebrate the event. Mr. Williams left for church a little earlier than usual, never thinking that his sister had arranged for a surprise upon his return. In his absence the dining room had been decorated with souvenir postcards besides some sixty or more which had been received through the mail. A well prepared chicken dinner was served. Mr. and Mrs. William Pearson and daughter Helen of Long Beach and M. and Mrs. L. S. Miller and family or Los Angeles were special guests. Ell Beeson of near Bentonville was among the farmers who attended the, threshing association at RAichmond Saturday. Raymond Lowry has been employed at the Milton Buggy factory. They were sold to Mr. Hachman. Mrs. Ed Wilson was at Connersville yesterday. Florence Daniels who belongs to the eighth year grade of pupils of Miss Murphy's room of Milton schools, received the highest average in her examination last week. She received 98 central nvorafo Miss Sarah Hussey who closed her school at the Hussey school house last week left for Terre Haute to take the twelve weeks term at the Normal. Miss Hussey is one of the Milton high school graduates. She took a term at the State Normal last year and taught a very successful school the last winter. Mr. and Mrs. James Shank and family visited Mr. and Mrs. Willard Wissler east of town Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Wood, Mrs. Barbara Ferris and son Paul Ferris, Benjamin Toms and Mr, and Mrs. Park Thornburg and daughter, Isyl, were entertained at dinner with Mr. and Mrs. Hiram Crook Sunday. O. H . Beeson, executor of the will of the late Mrs. Mary J. Booth will sell the house and lot belonging to the estate of the deceased at public aution tomorrow afternoon, commencing at 1 o'clock. The Priscilla club met with Mrs. Van Winkle Monday afternoon and was attended by twenty-five ladles. The hostesses for the occasion were Mrs. Van Winkle, Mrs. D. H. Warren, Mrs. Morton Warren, Mrs. Angelino Warren, Mrs. Will Wallace. The afternoon was pleasantly spent and nice refresments served.
