MEXICANS OPPOSE THE HEW CABINET Demonstrations Arc Made In Mexico City Military Called Upon. (American New Servlc) Mexico City, March 29. WsHat Inaction with tho makeup of President Diaz's new cabinet on the part of the revolutionary sympathizers was ventrd In bo violent a manner today that the military patrols of the city were reinforced. Troops are now conKtantJy on duty for quick action. Tho situtlon In the capital city Is critical. The antlDlas faction la bolder In
its oeratlons than at any former time, gaining confidence from the ov-ernnM-nt eonceshlons already made. A detachment from the regular infantry was sent during the night to the stiburling towns of Taetibaya and San Diego, where disorder was reported to have broken out. The commandant of the detachments was Klv-n orders to restore order at all hazards and patrol the streets of the nuliirl. The revolutionary element today posted placards bearing the names of men whom they want in the cabinet. Included anions thexo ImIiik Gen. Iternardo Reyes who was not included In the appointments announced by President Dlat. The rcappolntemnt of Gen. Goslo to be minister of war has aroused much resentment. However, all factions seem content with Senor Llmantour, although the anti-Diaz factlfin wants lilm to be Knrique Creel's successor at minister of foreign affairs intdead of minister of finance to which Diaz has reappointed him. The recall of Henor de la Harra from Washington to take the post of minister of foreign affairs, has further Increased the unrest. Tho Insurrectionist sympathizers are apparently determined that Llmantour shall Bueced Creel. The Insurgents want a further shake-up of the new cabinet which has Just been announced. They want the recall of Senor Sod I as minister of justice, to be replaced by Senor Romero, the recall of Senor Kstanot. the new minister of public instruction, and the appointment of Senor Gomez and the retirement of Senor Rlvira. minister of colonization and Industry to be replaced by Senor Primentel. In fact, practically all the appointments are unsatisfactory to the faction hostile to Diaz, which Is demanding that the President himself retire. AT THE GENNETT, FRIDAY, MARCH 31.
Ai Local Theaters Comery Hit "Seven Days." Sometimes superlatives are justified. Take for example ' Seven Days1' Now It might be said of the play that it Is a comedy by Mary Roberts Rlnehart and Avery Hapwood. at present In the second year of Its run at the Abtor theater in New York, with a record of six months la Chicago, and that the Wagenhals and Kemper company will present at tho Gennett, Friday evening. That bare announcement would tell the story to a great many persons who know all about "Seven Days," what It la and what it has done. Hut wouldn't It serve the general public better to say It Is a "laughing wonder," and "indescribably amusing," taking the New York Times as authority for those assertions? And wouldn't the public like to know that this play keeps Its audience In paroxysms of laughter "laughter all the time?" That, too. from the same newspaper. Such things as these prove that "Seven Days" is entitled to superlatives. Tliey have to be employed to give an Idea of the comedy. Adolph Klauber, the eminent dramatic critic of the New York Times, a conservative newspaper, said of "Seven Days:" It is excruciatingly funny a laughing wonder. There is laughter all the time. It is exceptionally bright and attractive, without a dull moment." It Isn't often that Mr. Klauber lets himself go with enthusiasm like this, which proves that "Seven Days" is far out of tho ordinary. Hut surely everybody must know about "Seven Days" and just so surely will see it Friday evening when thi3 excruciatingly funny comedy will bo seen with a brilliant New York cast and a production of rare beauty, both of the kind for which Messrs Wagenhals and Kemper are noted. CONDEMNS SUNDAY AI1TJ-PLAY LAWS Minister Finds Them Harmful and Declares for More Recreation.
Indianapolis, Ind.. March 29. Sunday laws regarding play or recreation do more harm than good, said the Rev. W. B. Dickinson, representative of the National playground association at a meeting of the Consumer's league, at the home of Miss Sue Rowe, 1317 North Delaware street. "Sunday laws prohibit play for people who have no other. time, and do not prohibit it for those who can have it at any time," he said. "Some men can play golf because others are at work." Mr. Dickinson spoke on "Play and Industrial Efficiency" He said that efficieny which can put out only dollars is not real efficiency because it dwarfs the lives of the workers. The speaker described the playground movement as one of the important movements of modern times. He said it is not limited to school playgrounds, but includes the whole problem of recreation for adults as we'd as children. The moving picture show and the dance hall are parts of this recreation problem which will have to be met, he said. The religious life of a community is not best indicated by the number of its churches, but by the interest in the death rate, for the death rate means human suffering, according to the speaker. Play rightly organized and directed he said, is one of the greatest preventive measures for crime and physical and moral degeneration. Therefore play is an integral part of any plan for increasing industrial efficiency. Recognizing this fact, he said, a normal course in play is offered in seventeen educational institutions, and organized play is already being applied to industrial establishment classes. A large corporation in Illinois gives an hour a day to its employes for games. The superintendent of an insane asylum recently said: "If we could have directed play we would send our patients away cured in onehalf the time it now takes.
