AN OLD IDEA.
Shown to be Absolutely False by Modern Science. .People used to think that baldness was one of those things which are handed down from generation to generation, from father' to son just like a family heirloom. Science bas shown the falseness of this belief by proving that baldness Itself Is not a constitutional disease, but the result' of a germ Invasion of which only Herpic-ide can effectually rid the scalp. Washing only cleans the scalp of Dandruff, It doesn't kill the germs. "Destroy the cause you remove the effect." Newbro's Herplcide will do this in every case. It is also a delightful dressing. Very trly yours. Captain J. K. Padgett. Sokane. Wash.. H",fc K. Sinto Ave. Prosecutor Will Investigate. Whether or not this letter will and in solving the murder mystery there are many people In Hedford and elsewhere who believe that sooner or later the mystery will he cleared, and for that reason everything that promises a solution is received with much interest. Prosecutor Underwood says that Captain Padgett once wrote a letter to Chief of Police Pierce asking how he would be remunerated for information he said he had about the tragedy. Pierce turned the letter over to Prosecutor Underwood, who answered is, saying a large reward had been offered, and as far as he knew was still standing. This was five weeks ago, and the writer was urged to answer at once, but the receipt of this last letter would Indicate that Padgett had not got the prosecutor letter. Though the prosecutor does not put much faith In the story, ho will investigate far enough to find whether the writer of the letter is reliable. Greatest spring tonic, drives out all Impurities. This sketch is composed of the Great Lulu, a free and easy vaudcvlllian, Farwell. the critic, with a tendency to small lying, and Nellie Farwell, his trusting and confiding wife. The amuseing predicaments In which Farwell finds hlnieHlf Is bent told by the moral of the sketch. '"If you must eat, eat at home with your wife." The three dreamers will be remembered as being the bent comedy trio at the Murray last season, they come to us now with a new act but with their same old laugh getting ways. The Four Olivers, sensational wire artists will be another feature of the bill and with Pearl Stevens. Singing Comedienne will make up one of the best bills seen at the Murray for some time. Seven Days. "Seven Days" is very properly a quarentine . comedy. Quarentines go with epidemics, and "Seven Days" is a raging epidemic of fun. laughter and j all othed jolly complications. 'Some day." said Simon's Magazine, 'There may be something funnier than 'Seven Days' staged, but we doubt it. 'Seven Days' is a laugh producer from beginning to end. and what's more, they are all good clean laughs. If you have an opiortunity to see 'Seven Days' take along an extra handkerchief. You"l probably need it. or the girl nest to you may want to borrow It to wipe away the tears of daughter." Thanks. Mr. Simmons, for that handkerchief hint. Forewarned Is forearmed. and knowing "Seven Days" makes one laugh till one cries, we'll all be properly equipped when we go to the tlennett Friday evening, to see this cracker jack comedy, the biggest hit in years, the laughtermaking play of the time. And everybody Is sure to go. for who would miss seeing "Seven Days" and the New York cast and the Astor theater production to which the Wagcnhals & Kemper company are to treat us? "As Told in the Hills." Novelty Is W. F. Mann's watchword and In this season's production of 'As Told In the Hills." he promises a feature of great interest when it is seen at the Gennett Monday. Prize fighters have appeared as prize fighters, real burglars as house breakers, firemen as fire heroes, but W. F. Mann goes them all one better. The leading parts In his big production of 'As Told in the Hills." that of an Indian maid and an Indian government scout, are actually played by real live Indians. Surrounded by a capable company, they will entertain and please all who are fortunate enOrnish to witness this beautiful story of the hills. The Newlyweds. "The Newlyweds and Their Baby" Is coming to the Gennett theater shortly. It is a big company, 60 people, the balf, of course, being the baby. BESIEGE YANKEES In Wilds of South American Republic, Desperate Contest Is Waged. (American News Service Pittsburg, March 2o. Imprisoned with several other Americans on a ranch in the wilds of Ecuador by na tive Indians who think they have been cheated out of the property and are be sieging !t. Miss Elizabeth Detwiler, a trained nurse of Pittsburg, has communicated with friends and pleads that the United States government be asked to send relief. '"Tonight. Feb. 2. one of our Vaqueros will make an attempt to get through the natives' camps which are on every side of us." reads the letter which was received here last night. "We are sending our mail with him and It la the first opportunity we have had to communicate with the outside world for two weeks. Will you notify the government of our predicament and do what you can to help us? We are also sending a message to the Ecuadorean government, asking for aid." Miss Detwiler left for South America early in January. With her as a patient and companion was a Philadel phia woman. Of her experiences Miss De'.wiler writes: Telts of Experiences. "We arrived at the ranch after three days" journey in a coach. Several days later trouble began to brew. Several thousand natives who live on the ranch claim they were cheated out of the property. Our host, a former Phlladelphian, purchased the property from the government several years ago and his title cannot be questioned. "In several hundred square miles of beautiful country my patient, the host and his wife and myself are the only Americans. The nearest town is several hundred miles away. Voodoo men among the natives, I understand, incited them to demand higher wages or be given the land and our host has had several open quarrels with them. He has been here some time. "The situation became so tense that the ranch house was barricaded so that we could have a safe refuge in case of an outbreak. The guns were kept loaded and during the day even our host kept near the house, leaving the direction of his work to the native overseers. "The thing came to a head one night two weeks ago when an incendiary fire was started in the stable. This was extinguished and the following day when our host directly accused several of the natives of the crime, the entire force of laborers stopped work and began to loot the out buildings. The native overseers made no attempt to stop them and our host was powerless. All the natives, probably several thousands, . are now encamped all around us and we have not been out of doors for two weeks today. "In case n attack is made we will shoot, having plenty of guns and ammunition. Every day the natives are venturing nearer the house and yell tauntingly at us .There is enough provisions in the house to last for about one month." As the letter Is almost two months old and no further word has been received, the friends of Miss Detwiler are much worried over the predicament of their friend. Today the matter will be taken by wire with the Pennsylvania congressmen now In Washington. Supper at Christian church Tuesday from 5:30 to 7:3025 cents. 25-Ct REAL ESTA TE TRANSFERS Jno. B. VERSION JF SMITH About that Booker T. Washington Assault Case. (American News Service) New York, March 23. A new tangle was added to the circumstances surrounding the attack cn Booker T. Washington, by a statement from Daniel C. Smith, auditor of the Tuskesee
Institute, in w hich Uc declared that j he had no appointment to meet Wash- j lugton at 11 -8 West bud street. At the same time E. J. Scott, Dr. Washington's secretary, came forward declaring that he was wi.lingr to take the responsibility for the entire affair saying that he had written to the educator in New York giving an address in 6;'.d street where, he thought, Washington would meet the Tuokegee auditor. 'I understood Mr. Smith to mention the name of a relative in tiod street," said Mr. Scott, "and in my letter I gave Dr. Washington an address there. However, he evidently confused it with another and in that way the mistake occurred. I subsequently learned that Mr. Smith did nut leave for the north as planed and 1 neglected to notify Dr. Washington. It was a mistake in every way. Dr. Washington lias met Mr. Smith at his, residence in New York. This of course was not unusual." Auditor Smith gave his version as follows: "If an appointment was made for Dr. Washington to meet me, it was without my knowledge. Any letter sent by Secretary Scott to me from him personally, I know nothing of it. "I never met Dr. Washington at the address at C:d street. A blunder has been made on the part of the secrestary evidently." SAN ANTONIO BUSY CITY THESE DAYS (American News Service) San Antonio, Tex., March 25. DOUBT SUCCESS OF COUNTY CORN CROP
Germination Tests of Grains Forecast Unfavorable Conditions. Already, even before the ground is plowed and the seed planted. farmers of Wayne county are beginning to doubt the success of the 1911 crop. In germination tests it has been found that many of the grains on each ear are not fertile. This complaint is not made in Wayne county, alone, as farmers generally in Ohio, Indiana, Illinois and Missouri are reporting the same condition. In order that better germination ma)' be secured, those farmers who possible can, are making ready to use corn from the 1909 crop for seed purposes. The reason is that in the dry spell in September 1910 the corn dried up and was rapidly ripening when early in October a warm wet sj ell started the corn to growing again. The result was that the crop did not die until frost came in the middle of October. The corn wa3 killed quickly and did not dry properly. As a result black mould is destroying much corn stored in open cribs. Joseph Helms, Wayne county's corn expert says he believes existing conditions are due to irregularity in the curing the seed last fall In the Vet Mart.
