Dr. King's Report
EDWARD TERRY. Kdward Terry, the noted English Actor who ha been touring Canada, was born In London March 10. 1SH, and made hit first histrionic effort as an amateur with tho "Thespian Dramatic Club" and showing promise as an actor, entered tho profession in 1S3. For several years he played in several of the provincial eltles of England. In 1867 ho niado his first appearance in London, at the Surrey theater. It was not until two years later however, that he scored his first big success as "Paul Try." At the Strand where he went the following season, his appearance In several successful pieces paved the way to a still greater popularity to be won during a long engagement at the Gaiety. This engagement lasted until 1SS4. during which time the actor was seen tn a number of well known plays. Mr. Terry opened In his own theater In London in 1SS?, since when his most successful productions have been Sweet Lavender. "My Cousin. "Tho Woman Hater. and "The Home of Tnurnslde." In 1904 he made his first tour of America. He has appeared also In Australia. New Zealand. India, Pmith Africa, Egypt. Morocco, and in all the countries of Europe.
The Palladium desires to speak further on the subject of the ventilation and sanitation of the school system In Richmond, but the general impression of the examination findings of Dr. King strike the reader as being essentially fair. The fact is that the conditions are about those as set forth by Mrs. Bartel in her statement of the case. The things are in themselves neither the worst In the world neither are they the best. The responsibility can be placed now to a greater degree than before. A roseate view that everything is lovely and that nothing could be changed for the better is not the one in which much improvement can be hoped for. This gives a real chance for improvement. The citizens of Richmond know that the situation is already better they have the words of Dr. King of the state board of health before them and they have had the findings as they appeared in the news columns of the Richmond papers. There is no ono that will deny that It has done good to have this investigation. There are still some features of the situation that might be touched on but tho big, permanent gain is simply that the people of Richmond responded In their interest to a very vital situation. The things ought to be carried to their ultimate conclusion and instead of letting this be the conclusion should begin right now to make this what it ought to be, the best place in the middle west for the rearing and educating of children. If there is one thing that the people of Richmond have gotten out of thin, it is how little they actually know about the way In which their children are educated. In this it is by no means necessary to develop the idea as to whoso fault this is.
It is not a good thing to break down the discipline of the schools by taking the side of every grievance that comes home from the school. The teacher needs reinforcement in many cases or better, real co-operation. The sensible thing would seem to be for parents to happen into the school buildings when there is no trouble of any sort and to use the eye, the ear and the nose. Ono individual can find out many things in a short space of time. Mrs. Bartel seems to have used her eyes and nose to advantage in this matter. The question is not tso much whose fault a thing may or may not be as It is whether the condition exists. One-fifth of the population of Richmond is supposed to be in the schools of the town at any rate the children of the town are. It seems that these persons ho have little or no voice in the community but are, as Thomas Jefferson said, the "greatest assets of the state," are entitled to more attention than has been given them. We do not believe that the school system of Richmond will ever be perfect. The moment any one believes so, then there is bound to be trouble. It seems that some of these troubles wero known and acknowledged and others known and ignored, and denied, and others unknown. A little matter of that sort is merely a matter of record, but the real concern is not with the past, but with the future.

SOME THIEF 3IIGHT TAKE COURT HOUSE The attention of the county commissioners has been called to the carelessness which has been manifested in the last few months, relative to leaving the court house unlocked after the officers have left the building, making it possible for vandals to enter the building and do much mischief. The commissioners have ordered that hereafter those who have business at the court house -after closing hours, must lock the door after their entrance and again when they leave the building. The Sol Meredith Post G. A. R. probably will be given a key to the north entrance door and use this exclusively.
Of 328,666,255 steamboat passengers in 1910 fiscal year, 379, including members of crews, lost their lives; one in every 867,193 passengers carried. Of the lives lost, however, only 219 can be properly charged to accidents, collision or foundering.
Have Beautiful Hair. Soap and water is used too frequently will spoil any head of hair. The best hair treatment is a dry shampoo made as follows: Get six ounces of pulverized orris root and two ounces of vilane powder. Mix
thoroughly and keep in a tight box or jar. At night apply a heaping tablespoonful to the hair; distribute with the fingers all through the hair to the scalp. Next day comb and brush until all trace is removed and as a result any man or woman will have beautiful fluffy hair. This removes dirt, surplus oil, dandruff, etc. It is the best thing ever devised for excessively "greasy" hair. Many easterners now use it regularly. Men use it daily and ladies one to three times a week.
The concrete bridge to be constructed over the Beeler Ford in Boston township, just south of the city, will be the largest bridge of its kind for common traffic, in Eastern Indiana when completed. It will be about two hundred and forty feet long and consist of three spans. The cost will be in the neighborhood of $10,000. The bridge is so designed that it will bear up the weight of 200 pounds to the square foot or a twenty ton machine although it is improbable that any such great weight will ever cross the bridge. The construction will be started some time this spring as the county commissioners wish to have
work under way before summer in order that the bridge will be thoroughly seasoned before cold weather arrives
next fall. There are only a few concrete railroad bridges in Indiana that are longer than the Beeler bridge will be.
