SHEER DOOM FORCASTED HOW Party Leaders in New York to Caucus and Settle on Senatorial Timber.
r
(American News Service) New York, Feb. 11. The elimination of Vm. V. Slieehan as a candidate to succeed U. S. Senator Chaunccy M. Depew is believed to be near. All of the big leaders in the senatorial situation were in this city today and some time between the present and Tuesday, it is believed that a general conference will hav been held, with a compromise candidate practically if not finally agreed upon. The powers in the party are said to be agreed that the deadlock must be broken and that speedily. According to news from an authoritative source today, Goc. Dix has decided that the senatorial deadlock must end and has become convinced that Shcehan cannot le elected. The governor is expected to put it up to Murphy to withdraw ihe Tammany candidate. The governor was said to be willing that Murphy should take all the credit for ending the deadlock.
