At Local Theaters Russell Players. You have heard of them for they have played all the city time around here and were In stock at Dayton and Zanesville, Ohio,. for nine weeks each another reason why you have hoard of tbcm is they are using only the big royalty bills of Broadway and the prices remain the same. Now tbis is not a repertoire company playing melodramas but a company producing good comedies and dramas. Among the plays for here are "The Girl in the Domino" a piece full of comedy in fact "The Girl in the Taxi' was taken from it. "The New Mag dallne." "The Parting." "The Prince of Liars. "The Beau Brummcl Burglar." "The Bachelor and the Maid," and "The Devil." Don't forget we open Monday at the Gennctt with ladles free when we play "The Beau Brummell Burglar." The Man on the Box. Those who have read "The Man on the Box" that popular novel by Harold McGrath, In which Henry K. Dixey starred a few years will receive with pleasure the news that the play which many critics concede is better than the book, will be presented at the Gennett theater tonight. The company is headed by Randolph Gray and Bernice Trousdale, and includes C. B. Archer, Ralph Dean, Florence Wright, Jay Coggshall, Howard Mclvillce and Sydney Belmont. It is one of those clean wholesome comedies, In which the lover becomes a coachman and butler to be near the woman he loves. The play contains many striking funny situations which are bound to keep the audience in good humor. The first act is laid in a private room of Justice Watts' court in Washington. D. C. The second and third acts at the home of Colonel Amcsley, a retired army officer, who resides at Chevy Chase, the most fashionable part of our national capitol. Count Karloff. a Russian nobleman and spy played a prominent part. While the play is a comedy of the highest type, the third act. where the count tries to force Col. Armsley to give the hand of his daughter in marriage, gives the company an opportunity to display their real dramatic ability, this scene being especially tense. The staging and costuming being correct in every detail. At the Murray. Whether one enjoys the best In literature of prose, verse or song, or dancing and acrobatic features, the bill at the Murray this week will please all. Certainly the feature act, A Night With the I'oets, is decidedly ono of the best acts ever offered at the Murray. Mr. Lloyd who has become one of the greatest favorites throughout the country ns a reader has a host of admirers in Richmond who are taking advantage of the opportunity of hearing and seeing him again. He win present a number of new features during the week so it will pay anyone to visit the Murray several times this week. The singing and talking act of Bennett and Sterling, the vcntriloquistic act and the acrobatic act are also worthy of notice. The motion pictures present so vividly such natural scenes and events that they too help to make a program that is pleasing. REAL ESTA TE TRANSFERS John II. Schell to Catherine J. Haworth. SEIZED AS THIEF; WANTED JOIIEY BACK Miss Dodd, Who Dropped a Coin in Box, Took One Agent Shoved Out. New York, Feb. 10. In her haste to catch a train at the Hoyt street station of the subway, Marie Dodds, a stenographer of No. 98 Lafayette avenue. Brooklyn dropped into the chopper's box both the ticket and the five cents change she had just received from the ticket seller. She asked Thomas McGrath, the chopper, to give the nickel back, and he referred her to John Knright, the agent. Enright, instead of the five cents offered a receipt to Miss Dodds, an attractive girl of twenty. "But it's only five cents and it will cost me ten to redeem the receipt in New York," Miss Dodds objected. "That's the rule," Enright replied, and turned to a woman who had approached the window from the other
! side. This woman had laid a dime on the sill, and when Knright pushed her ticket and her change toward her Miss Dodds reached for the coin. Immediately L'nright seized her by the wrist and sent McGrath for a policeman. When Patrolman Tevlin of the Adams street station returned with the chopper, Enright was standing beside Miss Dodds, outside his booth. He laid a charge of petty larceny against her, and she was taken to the Adams street police . court, where Magistrate Nash was sitting. The girl demanded an immediate hearing. " I could not see what kind of a coin it was tho other woman gave at the window,". Miss Dodds said, when she had told the Magistrate what led up to her arrest, " and when the seller pushed out a ticket and five cents the only thought that entered my mind was that he was giving the woman her ticket and that he was giving me my nickel after all." "Just as I reached for the money he caught me by the wrist so roughly you can still see the marks." She held up her right hand, upon which the marks of fingers could be seen although the incident had occurred four hours earlier in the afternoon. Then he said to me: " 'I've got you for once. You got it on mo before, but now I've got it on you.' "What he meant by that was that last summer he asked me to go out with him ono evening and I wouldn't do it. I complained to the company, and he was censured for speaking to me the way he did. I thought he was offering me my money or I wouldn't have even tried to take it. And I think he had me arrested just to get even with me." Enright admitted that the complaint had been made against him, through an anonymous letter, and that he had been censured. He denied, however, that he held any malice against the girl. When he had heard the testimony Magistrate Nash hald Miss Dodds in $100 bail for trial in Special sessions. Later he paroled her in the custody of her counsel, a number of men present during the hearing urging him to waive bail. Diamonds. Perhaps no community more carefully and frequently set forth its erratic fancy than did the early settlers of Narragansett, R. I., of whom AY. 15. Weeden tells in "Early Rhode Island." There were so many of one name that the bearer must have a descriptive prefix lest he be lost in a concordant multitude. Mr. Updike cites thirtytwo Tom Hazards living at one time and thus illustrates a few: Collejre Tom, because he had been at college. IJedford Tom was his son aud lived at New Bedford. Barley Tom, because lie boasted how much barley he r.iisert from an acre; Virginia Tom, because he married a wife there; Little Neck Tom, from the farm of that name; Nailer Tom, the blacksmith; Fiddle Head Tom, an obvious resemblance: Pistol Tom, wounded by an explosion of that arm; Young Pistol Tom, his son; Short Stephen's Tom, the father low, against Lonsr Stephen's Tom, tho father tall; Tailor Tom needs no explanation. The (Seorges were not so numerous, but they were distinguished as Beach Bird George, of little le'gs; Shoestring George, an opponent of buckles; Wig George, Dr. Georgw ani Governor George. Candy boxes in the shape of small white satin slippers will be placed at the plates. The orders were given befqre the exact nature of the least was revealed. Shaw asked if the theater party had any special significance. Still Very Good Friends. "Does look like a wedding breakfast doesn't it?" laughed the stranger. Probert, an official in the survey department of the department of public works, has invented a sheath for the hatpin. It is ornamental as well as useful and is designed to protect the faces of the pedestrians, street car passengers and travelers generally. The sheath is of the same design as the head of a hatpin so that a woman wearing it will double the metallic ornaments of her hat. This may make the device popular with the fair sex. The sheath fits over the point of the pin and prssuro on a spring releases it when it is desired to remove the "weapon." How Ladies Improve t Looks!
