Harry Kauffman in Suit onl Account. After Ive hours of deliberation tbe petit Jury in the case of Harry C. Kauffman, a contractor, against George W. Schepman, a merchant tallar, on account, demand $200, Wednesda yafternopn decided in favor of tbe complainant and awarded him $193.31 and other proper relief. The verdict was sealed and announced on Thursday morning. It is improbable that Mr. Schepman will appeal the case to a higher court. Tbe case was bitterly contested re quiring two days for testimony and ar guments. It was filled with claims an dcounter claims. 'Mr. Kauffman, who Is a city councilman, in 1906, repaired a property on South Seventh and counter claims. Mr. Kaufman, the contract price was paid on completion of the work and the remainder, evidence showed, the defendant prom ised to pay later, but as Kauffman did not get tbe money be entered suit and obtained judgment. Tbe defendant tried to set forth that the contractor was not entitled to his demand because tbe work he alleged was not done properly. He averred he had made clothing for the complainant's son which he had not been paid for and as the son was a minor at the time he charged the cost against Mr. Kauff man. Tbe son on the stand declared he bad paid for tbe clothes when he took them out but had not accepted a receipt. TEN DAY OLD BABE HAS BEEN ADOPTED Cleo, one of the ten day old twins of Harold Mitchell and wife, was adopted by Hanford J. Cowgiil and wife in the circuit court on Wednesday. The child's parents are not living together and as the mother is in destitute circumstances 'she was willing to allow it to be taken from ber. The other twin probably will be given a borne in some family in the city later. TO A DEAD "CUB The Cincinnati Enquirer pays this tribute to George Hayman, the "Cub" reporter, who lost his life la the recent Cincinnati Chamber of Commerce fire: Journalism. "There was a portentous blaze in the West End as we went to press," the great editor once announced to his morning readers. v "Johnny-on-the-spot for me,"crled the "cub" reporter as he dashed into tbe doomed building. The great editor lies under stately granite, and biography tells in columns his accomplishments. The "cub" reporters tomb is beneath twisted steel and tons of debris, and tongue nor page can tell the torture of his sacrifice upon duty's altar. G R O C Two Stores. 4 F hones.
