TO EMPLOY FERRETS

Is the Plan State Board Considering.

Is

Regarding the matter of discovery of equetered taxes the state board Ql Ux commissioners probably will recommend tbe passage of a law tbat will Indorse the employment of tax ferrets as agents of tbe board and answerable and responsible to the board according to Washington E. Lowe, former focal tax ferret, who is In the city And who was before) the board last week. According to the board's plan, the discovery of omitted taxables will bi In the bands of the state board and not a matter regulated by the board of county commissioners as the law now provides. It Is proposed to make the system similar to that of the state board of accounts. The question of whether the agents for the board should be paid a commission or a salary, as Is done with the field men of the state board of accounts. Is still being debated. Mr. Lowe believes, however, the board will determine to ask that the ferrets be paid In commission. Tbe state board Is much Interested In the matter because the state derives Its revenue from the state tax. Tbe board seemed satisfied that the state's revenue would be enlarged by the employment of agents to discover omitted taxes according to Mr. Lowe.

"The Third Degree." "The Third Degree." Charles Klein's graphic drama, will be seen at the Gennett on Thursday, December l5th. Tbe great success of the play has been most startling, and it is believed that the present condition in many police circles has had an effective bearing on the interest of the general public as well as those who are regular theater patrons. Miss Sarah Padden continues in her path of artistic triumph as Annie Jeffries. Jack Ellis, Paul Everton, William Pinkham, Margaret Drew, H. H. Forsman, J. R. Williams, E. A. Eberle and Francis Bonn are still playing their respective roles. Howe's Pictures. The person with an ambition to take a $10,000 world tour need not be dls appointed In only half a dollar or less Is available to gratify the desire. For it is welcome news that Lyman II. Howe's Travel Festival is booked for the Gennett this season as usual. Of course, It Is needless to say that the program on each occasion will be entirely new. Mr. Howe can be depended on to present In one evening enough of foreign lands with their unfamiliar customs and scenery to compensate the many ungratified longings to see the world. On his engagement on Friday, December 16th, he will exhibit, what he guarantees to be the most wonderful reproduction he has ever exhibited. It 'shows all the regal splendor of King Edward's funeral not only through London's streets but also the Impressive scenes at Windsor. It is notable for the close facial portraits of the world rulers In attendance, and of our special ambassador, Col. Roosevelt A ride up the Eiffel Tower, Paris; the snow-bound Alps; how Japan celebrates; the famous fiords of Norway; the eruption of Mt Etna; life on a training ship; a modern miracle in railroad construction the Grand Trunk Pacific; and fearless Italian artillery manoeuvres are only a few of the big features of the first itenerary for Howe's local tourists.

Scientific Exhibition at Murray. John X. Conghlin and his famous electric chair, from Auburn. New York. Conghlin la a producer who produces not only a show but some real electricity. A grand transformation of colors artistically blended in a mysterious manner in an original twentieth century refined electric lighting act He first holds two carbons in his mouth and with one in either hand completes a direct short current circuit causing a brilliant light to blaze in the mouth. The electric chair he uses is an exact duplicate of the chair now used at the famous Auburn, New York prison. His work is exactly at variance with all tbe laws of electricity and has no precedence.

PLAYS AND PLAYERS

"You Halnt Heard Nothln' Yet." At the Murray this week a sextette of versatile comedy instrumentalists, oten with ar saxophone number, followed by a march and rag time number on wooden instruments and their final efforts, "Love Me and the World Is Mine," played In ragtime On coronets and trombones has won for them several encores at every performance. "The Three Singing Girls," a harmonious and melodious trio of young women who sing their songs with, an idea of specializing in softness and sweetness Instead of tearing oft the roof. In this they succeed and convulsively demonstrate that an act with the soft pedal on will coax forth more encores as a rule than the more frequent knock down and drag outs. The audiences have been generous to these clever girls and they not only deserve their generosity but appreciate it. Another feature which should not be over looked being home talent none other than Mr. DeBolt who Is holding
