In the afternoon the ladies met with Mrs. Swearingen and Mrs. Hess in their regular monthly class meeting, and surprised her with a pretty shower of miscellaneous presents. But in the evening they returned bringing their husbands with them. Those who were present were Rev. and Mrs. E. K. Van Winkle, Mr. and Mrs. E. P. Jones, Mr. and Mrs. Morton Warren, Mr. and Mrs. L. H. Warren, Mr. and Mrs. R. H. Mrs. Geor Murley is suffering from neuralgia. Jason Brewer, formerly of Milton, now of Beloit, O.. called on friends here yesterday. He came from Muncie where he had been working to establish the Identity of his daughter, Mrs. Mattie Brewer Commons, who recently fell heir to a fortune from her mother. Mrs. Alice DuGranrut's company at dinner Sunday was Mr. and Mrs. Frank DuGranrut and son, Roy DuGranrut of Los Angeles, Cal.. Robert DuGranrut and Homer Callaway of Philomath. The offering at the Stewart temperance meeting Sunday afternoon amounted to about $17. Miss Jessie Lantz had as her company at dinner Sunday Miss Marie Elwell, Miss Eunice McClung, Lula Faucett Alma Wagner. The Rev. E. K. Van Winkle took up for his theme at the morning service the C. W. B. M. and its work and showed that It is a great power in the church, and an important factor in the evangelization of the world. The ! offering amounted to a snug sum. The evening sermon subject was- "Lead Us Not Into Temptation." He showed that God does not tempt man to sin, but he leads him in ways whereby his strength shall be tested and bis reliance on God made stronger that he may resist eviL Mrs. Kersey Hoffman was at Connersville to attend at the bedside of her sister-in-law who is still very sick, yesterday. The Rev. C H. Pinnick reports good services at Doddridge chapel Sunday. The morning theme was -Singleness of Purpose" and founded on the text found in Genesis 27th chapter and 2 Sth verse. Man should serve God with a singleness of purpose. Points of thn sermon were that man fails because there is one thing he needs, becarse there is one thing he lacks, and ae succeeds because there is one he knows and one thing he does.
