' Chicago. Oct. 1. Thr months before his death, Irs G. Rawn. lata president of the Monon railway and former vice president of the Illinois Central, was Informed that the car repair craft net had been drawn around him by detectives In the employ ef the railroad. He was told that the evidence develeped by their Investigations was In the possession ef his erstwhile superior officers. Rawn was accused to his face by President J. T. Harahan of complicity in the vast plot by which the Illinois Central charges It was defrauded of over $1,500,000. He denied the accusation. This conversation took place at the residence of President Harahan In Michigan avenue, on the evening of April 18. On July 20, Rawn waa found dead at the foot of the stain In his residence In Minnetka, shot by a bullet from his own revolver. Harahan Accuses Rawn. President Harahan called his former friend and chief aid In the operation of the Illinois Central to his residence and Informed him that his relations with the Blue Island Car and Equipment company, the Ostermann Manufacturing company, the Memphis Car company and the American Car and Equipment company, were known. He ceased him not only of being Implicated In the conspiracy, but of being the ringleader and originator of the plot. Rawn entered a denial but failed to show the resentment that would naturally be expected to result from such a charge. ' On June 6, civil suits against the car companies Involved and four lesser officials of the railroad who had been discharged from Its service were filed la the Circuit court, and on July S, Rawn was called upon to testify as a witness at a chancery hearing before Master la Chancery Thomas Taylor, Jr. He denied that he or la his knowledge any of the officials of the Illinois Central were Interested financially In the car repair concerns. . terview with Rawn waa made public by a man who has been closely connected with the investigation 'following the presentation and Identification In the Municipal court by A. C. Goodrich of the $10,000 check Indorsed by Rawn. which F. H- Miles, president of the Blue Island company, had sworn represented a part of Rawn's SO per cent dividend on 714 shares of Blue Island stock. Goodrich said he had received two checks for $5,000 each from Nlles with Instructions from his friend. Frank B. ' Harrlman. - former general manager of the Illinois Central, to mall his own check to Rawn. The remainder of the $21,420 dividend Nlles said he had paid to Harriman for Rawn In cash.

RECITAL AT EARLHAM. The most important musical event of the past week was the recital given Friday evening at Earmam college, when Aurele Borrisa, the new vocal teacher at the college was introduced to the Richmond public Miss Laura Gaston and Miss Hecker also assisted with the program.
