Mr. and Mrs. R. H. Tyner and daughters, the Misses Mary and Grace of Knightstown, spent Sunday with friends in closing exercises of the old Methodist church. Mrs. J. W. Riley spent Sunday with friends at Straughn. The Misses Gaynelle Hagaman, Mary Bertseh and Julia Boyd went to Richmond yesterday where they will enter the freshman class at Earlham college. A porch party was given at the borne of Mrs. Kate Drlschel last Friday afternoon by the ladies of the Social union, for the purpose of making plans for the work of the winter. The roomy porch was an attractive place in its decoration of flags and flowers. The membership of the society was well reprecented. It was decided that a pot pie supper be given in the James Clark building Friday evening of this week, the serving of the supper to begin at live o'clock. A market will be given next Saturday afternoon in the Kiser room, just west of the Vinton hotel This organization resumed its work this afternoon at the home of Mrs. Jack Harper on North Walnut street after the summer vacation. Mrs. R. D. Steele nas gone to Eaton, Ohio, to visit relatives. Miss Hazel Steffel returned to Earlham Monday to enter upon her junior year. The services of the past few days. attendant upon the closing of the old Methodist church in Cambridge City were of a most impressive character throughout. The work of demolition has already begun and the old church will soon be a thing of the past , The services began last Thursday evening. Rev. Arthur Cates of the Grace M. E. church of Richmond, preached the initiatory sermon, striking the keynote of the ensuing services. Rev. J. S. Radcliffe. of the First M. E. church at Richmond, preached an eloquent sermon on Friday evening, both services of which were preparatory for the services on Sunday. Sunday morning the services of the day began with the Sunday school. Superintendent C. H. Graver Introduced the state secretary of the Sunday school association, who gave an instructive talk on the Sunday school lesson, "A Temperance Lesson." (GaL 5-15-26). giving statistics of the amount of money spent each year for alcoholic liquor in tho United States alone. Mr. Graver announced the next place of meeting school adjourned to meet no more in the old church. Rev. H. W. Bennett of Warsaw preached morning and evening services, dwelling upon the interpretation of the Home Coming in both a temporal and spiritual sense, and bringing out the thought that the church home should be In accord with
