Van Winkle had his pocketbook stolen at Connersville on Thursday evening. He and his -family were returning from Little Flatrock and atopped at Connersville to see the fair. As they were about to board the Lake Erie and Western for home that evening the Rev. Mr. Van Winkle felt a hand in his hip pocket and realised that his pocketbook had been taken. Luckily he had transferred all money to another receptacle and knowing the pocketbook was empty he made no effort to secure the thief in the jam of people around. Chas. Callaway, postmaster here, was also robbed on the fair, grounds. He had left the office In a hurry that morning for the train and in case of emergency slipped two five dollar bills into a card case and placed In his hip pocket. At some time he waa relieved of the case and Its contents of $10. Mr. and Mrs. Lewis, Mesdames Alice Gresh and H. L. Jones spent yesterday with Miss Belle' Scott and Mr. and Mrs. Beeler at Richmond. Coffin, of the Methodist church, had charge of the services: Mrs. Sm alley ' was 78 years of age. She was born in Fairfield county, O., south of Lancaster. She was twice married, the first husband, William Martin, having died in Kirkwood, Mo., during the Civil war. She afterward married George F. Smalley. One child, Lew Martin, and one grandchild. Miss Lulu Martin, of this city, survive her. Mrs. Charles Driggs, accompanied by her sister, Mrs. Sechrist, of Kokomo, have gone to Kenton, O.. to visit friends, and from that city will go to Peru to spend several days. Mrs. A. M.
