WAS EXCEEDINGLY ANGRY (American News Serviced Oyster Bay, Aug. 20. Col. Roosevelt today branded as an1 unwarranted ife from beginning to end a report that he had 'sent an ultimatum to President Taft' demanding that Vice President Sherman, who was chosen as temporary chairman of the New York state convention, be repudiated. Roosevelt plainly showed his anger as he said: v . "I have tent no ultimatum to President Taft The report Is a tissue of lies from . beginning to end and in fact has no warrant" Mr. and Mrs. Nicholas Longworth are expected here tomorrow. The visit of the son-in-law is considered significant at this time.

The special committee of the United Mine Workers convention today presented a compromise report embracing recommendations that the convention endorse all strikes now on and support them financially. The efforts of the International officers and district officers were commended and figures furnished which showed that the assessment of a dollar per week on all working members would finance the strikes now on. TWO HUNDRED DELEGATES EVEN SYNODS IN THE FAR WEST AND' EAST, AND ' IN, CANADA, WILL BE REPRESENTED AT THIS GATHERING. The fortieth biennial convention of the Lutherans of the joint synod of Ohio and other states will be held at St John's Lutheran church, Seventh and South E streets, on August 25-31 inclusive. Business pertaining to the doctrinal affairs of the body will be discussed as well as those relative to the educational and charitable Institutions. There will be about two hundred delegates in attendance, some representing synods in Canada and others in the far west and east, It promises to be one of the most important conventions held by the association and of greater importance in an ecclesiastical respect than any other held here this year. Dr. O. H. L. Schuette of Columbus, O., the president will preside. The secretaries include the Rev. A. Cfluegerof Lima, O, and the Rev. D. Ahl of Oshkosh, Wis. A. F, Herr of Columbus, O is treasurer. Arrive Here Monday. vV. Delegates will beda to arrive here on Monday. Their assignments to different homes while they are in the city was made this afternoon by the local committee. The preliminary committee will meet on Tuesday and Wednesday of next week and prepare a program. The preliminary committee is made np of the presidents of the different synods and presidents of educational and charitable institutions. This committee will, at the meeting next week, arrange the business and financial reports which are made on the different institutions. The report . concerning Wernle Orphans' home will be of most interest to the bers of the Ohio synod.

Delegates from twenty-four countries of Europe and America have arrived in Brussels to attend the third International Congress for Home Education, which will have its formal opening tomorrow in the Palais des Fetes at the Universal Exhibition. Mrs. J. Scott Anderson, of Pennsylvania will present to the congress a message from President Taft and also an invitation to meet next year in Philadelphia.
