Jim Lewis reports the fishing this season the best ever. He supplied his entire party with fish during their stay at the lake and also pulled down the prize for catching the largest bass caught this season. This bass weighed exactly eight and a half pounds and the head has been mounted and will be kept with the balance of Jim's trophies. He kept an account of each bass caught and weighed each fish. The total amount of bass caught was five hundred and fifty-two 1 pounds. The party was bo well supplied with bass to eat that they compelled Jim to limit his catch each day. Jim is as brown as one of Quigg's molasses cookies and is down to fighting weight. Charlie is looking like a fish diet was just what he had been looking for. The party is planning another trip next season. Uncle "Billy Kramer, who does a little detective work, for post C press chairman has run down every clue he had to Hegger's tomato thieves. Newt Jenkins proved himself Innocent, so did the balance of the suspects. By careful deduction he has figured out to an absolute certainty how the tomatoes disappeared. Heggar has a neighbor who has a bunch of chickens that roam at wilL These chickens were watched and "come were seen to go in and out of Heggars yard. These chickens have been going Into Haggar's tomato patch and peck at the ripe tomatoes and green ones too. When Heggar found his tomatoes pecked and minced, he cut them off and threw them Into the alley. Rath er than let his friends know his tomatoes were despoiled he began to cry thief and charged the T. admitted the plot when pressed by "Uncle Billy," and the truth is finally known. Crooked Lake, Ind., July 27, Press correspondent sent here to lok after the campers from Post C has had the most strenuous time in all his brief life. To chronicle the happenings of this gang has been a task so tedious and so continuous that had I known the true character of the individuals forming this party I would not have accepted the job. To begin at tue beginning I am forced to say I will find it impossible to tell in this letter all that has happened. That would be Impossible. I shall touch only a few minor incidents and bring the balance home with me in Quigg's bread basket. I arrived here a few hours before the first relay of the gang .came in and had myself established before the first section came up in the shape of Bill Quigg. You should have seen natives getting a line on our dear president They grew suspicious at once and have remained so ever . since. Next came Clarence Kramer and a few more a couple of days after, and on Friday of the same week Mrs. Q. and the children rolled in. The day after "Shorty" Shreeves leading his band qnietly slipped Into camp and the par. ty was complete. Why they, split up the gang and sneaked in pairs or two at at a time has been discussed by the people here and Is still unsettled. Harry Lincoln and Holmes came with "Shorty" and they are real fishermen of the crowd. "Shorty" 'sit around all day and tells the boys how to catch fish and where they can be found. He bit upon a good scheme when he arrived here . and ' at once opened up a stand selling the, .fish worms he brought with him. He got a large megaphone and barked aloud his wares, so loud you could hear aim across the lake. He made some man-

ey at this, but lost In a game of "freeze out." However, he has employed all the stray boys in Steuben county to gather worms or grasshoppers and is now about breaking even with the card game. . Quigg is no permitted ;. to . go In bathing while any of the other campers are in the water, as every time he steps into the bathing beach, there I a flood and the keeper of the grounds was forced to make this ruling in order to protect the ladies and children. He does not go boat riding as there are no boats large enough. All the president of post C, can do is to help "Shorty" tie up the fish worms as he sells them. Fishing here is on the bum. We haven't caught enough fish to fill a skillet and the only fish we had to eat were a few Jim Lewis sent over from Sand Lake. Say, old pal, you should have seen the natives take to their storm cellars and lock the doors the other day. Last Friday old "Sorrel Top" Lebo landed in the camp and the trouble began and never ended until he left Sunday. You see, he was so sore that his wife hadn't come home yet that he had to take his spite out on our crowd. When he left for home he bought some nice fish to show his mother what a fine fisherman be Is. We received a letter yesterday from "Uncle , Billy" Kramer. He stated some one had stolen all of Heggar's tomatoes and he was working on the case running down all the suspected parties. He was Inquiring , into Quigg's movements .while he made that hurried trip down to Richmond last Friday night It surely Is a shame to have taken J. B.s tomatoes; we think It a dirty trick. : The other day Clarence Kramer and Qulgg started out in "a JSoa to fish. Kramer had seated himsVf in the boat and Quigg was 2o push 'itoatt a little and Ohea jump in.. Weifc ne poshed
it out a little all right, but when he went - to jump, in he missed the boat and fell full length down In the lake.
You should have seen , the rise in the water. I think eyeryiflsh vin the pond jumped out seven feet and there waa a few of them too. Qulgg didn't come up for about an hour but when he did we had our bands full bringing him to. We rolled him over a barrel and , nrn -. ..i.Ai V ' Jl J auonv cul' bu ficueu lie uiuii l know halt the time whether he push ing Quigg over the barrel, or the barrel over Quigg. He hasn't been fish ing since. ; " Mr. and Mrs. Pettis Reld are here: also Mr. and Mrs. KaufTman. The . other dav I caueht them about three miles away from camp. They had been fishing all day and had just one ' little -bullhead to show tot their work. They were tired, worn out And disgusted. They said they had gotten their bait of Sh reeves and It was no good. They said all the good it waa for was to feed the fish with. It is funny to listen to all the stories told of the big fish that got away ; LIni i . v . . v j... n luiu vaiuv in im? umri u) auu uu s tale about a large fish that got away, from him. . According- to his description it surely would have made Jonah's whale look like a goggle eye. I never knew "Shorty" to be such a good, singer until the other evening when he started in about 11 a. m. to give a few selections, assisted by his daughter , and "Let" Turner's girl. , The noise" this bunch made sounded like the rattle of dish pans in the kitchen . on a busy" day. The marshal soon stopped the noise. Tell "Uncle Billy" we are s keeping a look out for suspicious char acters that might look like tomato thieves and are watching ; Quigg to see if he opens up any new ripe home grown tomatoes. We will be home on Saturday afternoon, and I will be glad of it. Never send me out with this gang again. Its worse than going to a T. P. A. national convention with Hasty. So long, and don't forget to. send my railroad ' fare so I can get home. Sincerely. YOUR CORRESPONDENT. REAL ESTATE TRANSFERS Catherine Volker to Wm. C. Austerman, Pt. Lot 9, E. L. Cleaver Add.
