Nona but Cardholdara Employed by Ohio Valley Exposition. Not ouly have uuiou workmen tbe call, but no man who ennuot show a union card In good standing has the slightest chance to break into tbe force of artisans who are erecting tbe buildings for the Ohio Valley exposition, wblcb will be. held in Cinciuustti from Aug. 29 to Set. 24. About a dozen buildiugs will be erected on tbe banks of tbe canal Iu tbe rear ot Music ball for tbe accommodation of various kinds of exhibits and amusement enterprises, aud not a tool will be wielded u nuy of these that Is not in the bauds of a uuiou workman. In order to avoid all questions as to the standing of any contractor in any kind of work connected with tbe exposition. Claude Uagen. director of amusements, under whose supervision tbe buildings are beiug erected, deckled to employ all his men directly Instead of letting out the work by contract In this way be has been able to secure the highest class of union men. with tho result that work has progressed rapidly and satisfactorily, so that there Is not tbe slightest doubt that all tbe structures will be completed some time before tbe date set for tbe opeuing of the exposition. Speaking of his experiment In taking charge of tbe entire construction work himself instead of letting it by contract Mr. Ha sen. who has designed and built some c-f tbe largest amusement enterprises in Europe and America, said: "I find thht method of construction more satisfactory than any I have ever engaged In. I don't have to wait on contractors to fluish one line of work before 1 can start on something else, and 1 don't have to worry about prospective labor difficulties. 1 am employing none but union men. and that means that I am getting men who are intelligent aud experienced in their several crafts. Under these conditions tbe work is gettlug on swimmingly, everybody is satisfied, and we'll have the exposition fully completed some time before tbe scheduled inauguration of the enterprise." WHAT CONGRESS DID. How Labor Fared at the Hands of Our National Legislators.
