Speaking of his experiment In taking charge of tbe entire construction work himself instead of letting it by contract Mr. Ha sen. who has designed and built some c-f tbe largest amusement enterprises in Europe and America, said: "I find thht method of construction more satisfactory than any I have ever engaged In. I don't have to wait on contractors to fluish one line of work before 1 can start on something else, and 1 don't have to worry about prospective labor difficulties. 1 am employing none but union men. and that means that I am getting men who are intelligent aud experienced in their several crafts. Under these conditions tbe work is gettlug on swimmingly, everybody is satisfied, and we'll have the exposition fully completed some time before tbe scheduled inauguration of the enterprise." WHAT CONGRESS DID. How Labor Fared at the Hands of Our National Legislators. Tbe legislation actually enacted in the interest oi labor at the first session of the sixty-first congress, now adjourned, comprises the following measures: Requiring common carriers to report all accidents to the interstate commerce commission. Compelling railroads, under penalty, to equip their cars with uniform safety appliances. Amending tbe employers liability set so that suit may be brought at the residences of the plaintiff and in the state courts. Appointing a commission to investigate the matters of employers liability and workingmen's compensation. Providing for the establishment in the department of the interior of a bureau of mines and appropriating tbe sum of $310,000 to carry on' tbe work.
