TEAMSTER IS HURT
Thrown from his wagon last night when the front wheels caught in the Street car tracks on North E street. Henry Martin, teamster, was thrown to the pavement receiving two broken ribs, a strained back and sprained right ankle. The man was taken to his home in the city ambulance. His condition is not serious.
When Martin fell the team which
is owned by the Minck Brewing company, became frightened and ran for
several blocks.

(American News Service! New York, July 21. To those who have been bewailing the indifference of the prosecuting authorities of the county to the charges of peculation of the funds of the traction companies of this city, now in the hands of receivers, the announcement of the proposed restitution of $10,000,000 by high financiers, is regarded as good news. The . scandal which marked the loot
ing of these companies has been one
of the black spots In New York's history of high finance. Gotham's street
railroads are the best patronized in
the world and when conducted legiti

should yield a handsome annual profit
Unfortunately for the latter, however,
the roads became a pet vehicle for financial exploitation, by which a number of the associates of the late Secretary of the Navy, William C. Whitney, filched unearned millions from them under various guises. Most conspicuous of the incidents of this kind was the sale of the Metropolitan Traction company of the charter of an unbuilt road, without a franchise, for $1,000,000. This money was refunded when the deal was exposed and criminal prosecution impended. The announced return of the $10,000,000 to

Several of the gentlemen involved ; are to put up $1,500,000 each and one , or two of them $2,000,000. In the light! of past experience, it is certain that, none of the financiers in question are giving up these sums through any
