A FIRE WALL FOR STAGE FIREPROOF CURTAIN AND FIRE SHUTTERS ARE ALSO ADDED WHICH PRACTICALLY PROTECT THE AUDIENCES. After being extensively improved the Oennett theater will open Monday ror the 1910-1911 season. Manager Ora Parks has returned from the South and states the improvements on the Gennett have made it one of the best theaters of its size in this section of the state. Many excellent attractions will come here this season. It is thought the opening with large atractions will be about the middle of August. As a fire proof house the Gennett is complete. A new fireproof curtain has Just been installed at a cost of about $1,000. Fuses are attached to supports of the curtain so that when heated the fuses break and the curtain automatically drops. Fire shutters have been built so that they will open on the same principle. These occupy practically the entire roof. When opened there is a heavy draft taking the fire away from the auditorium. A two foot Are wall is built from the top of the proscenium arch to the roof and all openings, between the stage and auditorium sealed with the exception of one door, where heavy Are doors are placed. Manager Parks says fire could consume the entire stage and scenery without damaging the front of the house. A pipe full of small holes has been placed over the arch and! when water is turned on the scenery and stage will be thoroughly sprayed, adding to the fire protection. A car load of new scenery has arrived and is a great improvement over that of last season. The entire house is redecorated in gold paint and has been cleaned. Both boxes are being rebuilt and will be ready for the opening. Retiring rooms are placed in the rear of each box. New carpet and draperies add to the appearance of the theater. Manager Parks will open the theater with May La Porte, in stock company Monday. He says this is an excellent company. Miss Affie McVicker, the treasurer,- will probably return. ICE CREAM SOCIAL. The Ladies' Aid society . of the Christian church of Ablngton will give an ice cream social Saturday evening on the church lawn. A school devoted exclusively to the study of motor boats has been started at New York.

FEELING IS BITTER (American News Service) London, July 20. The Salonlca correspondent of tho Temps sends an in teresting message which shows how bitter the feeling is in Turkey against Greece. "The Mussulman women," he says, "desiring to prove their loyalty, asked for permission to hold a meeting to protest against tbe annexation of Crete by Greece. The unmarried women and the widows were to swear publicly that they would not marry a man who, for any reason whatever, had not taken up arms against this annexation. The Vali of Salonica thanked the ladies for this expression of loyalty but declined to authorize the meeting. In the same town an economic war is being precahed energetically against the Greeks, and in addition to the boycoting of vessels flying hte Greek flag, the breaking off of relations with tradesmen suspectetd of Greek sympathies is being urged. ALL MUST BE PEDIGREED St. Paul. Minn., July 20. According to plans made for the northwestern uve stock snow to be new at Union stock Yards, South St. Paul, November 15 to 18, aristocratic cattle will not find their names on the list of those invited, Just because the blue dioou 01 ancestry runs in meir veins. The proud Angus, Holstein, Durham, nereiora or representatives or any other breed whose chief qualification is a pedigree which would fill a volume of the Congressional Record, will find himself lined up by the side of other animals whose claim to distinction is simply beef good, wholesome, Juicy, tender beef. And prizes will be awarded only to those which show the "beefiest" qualifications. The northwestern exhibit will in elude market animals only. True, there will be plenty of animals shown which might be given pedigrees, but such statistics will not be taken into consideration by the men who do the judging. It will be one time when pieMan cattle win enter a contest ot merits on the same ground as cattle of aristocracy. Many cases are on rec w ord where unpedigreed cattle whnu shown up better than cattle owners boast of long pedigrees which
go with them. At the northwestern ex- z ociock, in we auemuw w ohiblt. the heifer called "Maiden Lane, urday, July 80, 1910. on the premXIX," or "Queen Helen, X," will have le No. 803 North 10th street, in no better rating than will just "Maud" Richmond, Wayne county, Indiana, or "Middy."
