STATE COMMITTEE WILL RESPOND TO
IS CALL Republican Chiefs From - all Over the State Will Meet to Decide on Assessments of The Candidates. WILL BE NO SHRIEKS LIKE DEMOCRATS MADE lit is Thought the Nominees Will' Take Their Medicine Without a Whimper Money is Badly Needed. Palladium Hpeclali Indianapolis, May 1.-The republl ran state committee will meet In this 'city tomorrow in response to a call sent out by State Chairman Lee. The (main purpose of the meeting will be J to make the campaign assessments on ithe candidates for state offices. Tha democratic state committee met last week and assessed the democratic I state candidates, but the republican (committee has not yet done anything I along that line. If the republicans jmeet with as much complaining among Ithe candidates as the democrats have I heard since they met and made their 1 assessments there will be some noise I but It is not expected that there will I be any such complaint on the republi-It-an Bide. It has always been the custom of the I two old parties to fix the assessment 4n t the neighborhood of 1 per cent of the j entire amount of salary which the can didate will receive during the entire t9rm of his office, provided he Is elected. It is supposed that the republican state committee will follow the precedent thl3 time, although there are so mo who figure that the assessments this year will be Bomewhat than they were two and four years ago. Campaign Funds Small. This prediction is based on the comrcon knowledge that campaign funds will be smaller this year than usual and harder to get, and the state committee will undoubtedly have to dig hard to get enough to run the campaign. It is well known that many of the interests that usually give to the campaign funds, even to both parties will this year tie a string around their wallets and refuse to give up a cent. Factional troubles have been the cause of some of this, condition. Some of the Interests have been opposing Senator Beveridge for reelection and have been liberal contributors to the campaign funds In other campaigns. This year, however, they say they will not contribute a cent. This means a lot of work for the state committee, but It is understood that the committee thinks it sees ahead enough money for the actual necessary expenses of the campaign. , The democrats will have one advantage this year over the republicans when it comes to measuring funds for the campaign for the democrats will receive handsome contributions from the brewers. Of this there can be no doubt. The brewers and the liquor interests have always been the largest contributors to campaign funds In past years aud It is a fact that both parties have in years past warmed up to the brewers to a certain extent in order to get their money. Everybody knows this who has ever had anything to do with politics. But two years ago brewers' money went to the democratas In Indiana. The republicans did not get Jt. Thousapds of dollars were contributed by the brewers to the democratic campaign fund. Even as late as a couple of weeks or so before the election, the brewers raised f 15,000 for the democrats. Brewers Were Cautious. Owing to the bitter temperance and liquor light that was on at the time and the fact that each side was watching the other like a hawk, the brewers did not wish to take any chances on giving the' money to the democrats right here at home. So they sent the money to Milwaukee and a Milwaukee man took charge of it. He brought it into 'Indiana and it went into the Indiana democratic campaign as a campaign contribution from outside sources." In this way it was believed the true source of the money could be Hidden, ana it was securely kept a secret for a long time, but Anally the truth became known. That $15,000 helped out, too. The democrats in Indiana needed the money just at that moment. The brewers as individuals had made contributions of large sums to the campaign fund prior to that time, but it had all been used up. In fact, the main part of the democratic campaign fund for that year came from the brewers,, because the democratic party then, as now, were fighting to bring about a repeal of the county option law which, had been passed by a republican legislature a few weeks previous. It has been understood that a portion of the money contributed by the brewers to the democratic campaign fund that year came near not getting into the hands of the democratic state committee at all, bnt some of those who had made contributions heard of the trouble in time to see to it that the money went where it was Intended St should go. After that the brewers were a little more careful about making sure that the money was delivered . safely. . To Support Democrats. There Is just the same reason for the brewers contributing to the democrats this year that there was two years ago, for the democrats again have, declared their opposition to the county option law and their determination to

Am-rionn New? Sorvlo 1 London, May 18. When the body of the late King Edward is borne it3 last resting place at St. George's Chapel. Windsor, on May 20, one of the features of the cortege will be tho large number of royal mourners that will follow in the wake of the gun carriage that will bear the royal coffin. Nearly every monarchy in Europe will be represented by its sovereign or an immediate member of the Royal family, who will follow the body on foot. The presence of so many European rulers, is not only due to King Edward's position as head of the British Empire, but to the fact that nearly every monarch on the Continent is related to the late English ruler. Those who will be present in person, and who are closely related to the dead king, are: Emperor Wilhelm II., of Germany. King Frederick VIII., of Denmark. King Haakon VII., of Norway. King Alfonso XIII., of Spain. King Albert, of Belgium. King George, of Greece. The Kaiser is King Edward's nephew, his mother having been a sister of the late monarch. King Frederick of Denmark is related to the late King through his wife, who is a sister of Queen Alexandra. Maud, Queen of Norway, whose husband is King Haaken VII. is the daughter of the dead king. She was married In 1S96, her husband at that time holding the title of Prince Charles of Denmark. The Royal family of Spain can claim a relationship through marriage. fonso XIII's wife, Queen Ena, is thV daughter of King Edward's sister, Princess Henry of Battenburg. Belgium's new ruler, King Albert is a nephew of the late King Leopold II. who was an uncle of Victoria, King Edward's mother. Although King Manuel II. of Portugal can claim no close relationship with the late king he will also be present. It is rumored that this young ruler is to be married to Princess Patricia, the charming daughter of the Duke of Connaught, King Edward's brother. The late king was related to the Czar of Russia through the Dowager Czarina Marie Fooderivna, who is a siser of Queen Alexandra. As the Czar is afraid to attend a ceremony of such a public nature, he will be represented by the Grand Duke Michael. Emperor Franz Joseph, of Austria,
