Some Gossip of the Various Local Lodges

John W. Cruett, supreme organizer of s the order, will be present and' will have charge of the work, assisted by Deputy Supreme Archon, H. J. Phillips, ol Louisville, Ky., and Deputy Supreme Organizer, J. J. Iredell, who has beea in the city for the past six weeks, working in the Interests of the order. They will open with a charter list of about thirty members. s

The Whitewater Lodge of Odd Fellows held its regular meeting last evening, but no candidates were initiated and the meeting was in the nature of a routine session. , On next Friday evening the first degree will be conferred on several candidates. .

Lawrence Handley, past commander of the Indiana Division Sons of Veterans, will attend the state encampmen: of the Sons of Veterans to be held at South Bend on June 7 and 8. It is probable that several other delegates will .be sent as representatives of the local order also.

Harry Penny, county clerk, will deliver the anniversary address before the New Paris lodge of Odd Fellows on Thursday, April 2S. The event is the 01st anniversary of the Odd Fellows in America. There will be no unusual observance of the anniversary in this city, it is said. Elaborate plans were

made last year for the celebration of the 90th anniversary.

The Webb Lodge of Masons will confer the entered a.nnrwntfr Heerne nn

P. M. Jackson at the next meeting, to-

be held Wednesday evening, April 21.

Next month the Whitewater lodge of Cdd Fellows will chose representatives to the Grand Lodge convention of Odd Fellows to be held at Indianapolis on May 18 and 19. The Rebekah Assembly will also convene at the Capital City on May 16 and 17 and several delegates will be sent from this city.

Richmond lodge, No. 196 Ft and A. M will confer the master's degree on one candidate at the meeting Tuesday evening, April 2. Following the lodge work, the members of the order will assemble in the banquet hall and refreshments will be served. This lodge has not missed a Tuesday evening meeting this year, the work having been so heavy. It Is very probable that the work of the lodge will not be completed until late in June.

No arrangements have been made as yet by the local lodge of Modem Woodmen for the annual stated log rolling, to be held in this city in October. The event will be celebrated on the first day of the Fall Festival in all probability.

The Modern Woodmen have accepted an invitation of the Rev. H. Robert Smith, pastor of the First Baptist church, to attend the morning service Sunday in a body. The Rev. Smith

will preach on the subject- of tuberculo

sis. It was the suggestion of Dr. Hur-

ty, secretary of the Indiana Board of Health, that the churches invite the secret organizations to the services

Sunday. The members of the Mod

ern Woodmen will meet at the lodge hall at 10 o'clock and march to the

church.

On Monday evening. May 2, the Modern Woodmen will have a class for adoption, numbering . about twenty persons. On the following Monday night the organization will give a re

ception in honor of the Royal Neigh

bors, the ladies' organization of the order. This meeting will be open to the wives, families and friends of the

members of the lodge.'

Detraction. In some unlucky dispositions there is such an envious kind of pride -that they cannot endure that any but themselves should be set forth for excellent, so that when tbey bear one justly praised they will either seek to discount his Virtues or. If they be like a clear light, they will stab him with a but of detraction, as if there were something yet so fool as did obnubilate even his brightest glory. When their tongue cannot justly condemn him they will leave him suspected by their silence. Feltbam.
