Memory Verses, 6, 7 Golden Text, Rev. i, 18 Commentary Prepared by Rev. O. M. Stearns. Having the option of a review or a resurrection lesson, we choose the Easter lesson, as there is nothing so grand as His resurrection, by which He was declared to be the Son of God, with power and without which preaching and faith are vain and no one ever has been or can be saved. The resurrection, however, must Include all of His earthly life that preceded His death. His life as the Son of Alary, the seed of David according t the flesh. Matt. 1 gives the royal line of David's descendants through Solomon to Joseph, who became the husband of Mary, while Luke ill gives David's descendants through Nathan to Hell, whose son-in-law Joseph became by his marriage to Mary, and thus Jesus became heir to David's throne. The quarter's lessons might be outlined as. first, the genealogy and birth of the King; second, the visit of the Magi and the flight of Joseph and Mary to Egypt and their return to Nazareth; third, the herald of the King and the declaration of the Father concerning Him; fourth, the King's victory over the great adversary. His testimony and the calling of some disciples; fifth to seventh, the laws or the kingdom; eighth and ninth, some samples of the nature of the kingdom. Now. as the kingdom was postponed by the rejection and murder of the King we in this age must know the power of His resurrection If we would walk worthy of Him and manifest His life In these mortal bodies. The resurrection of . the Messiah was plainly foretold in Ps. xvi and xxli. Isa. liil and elsewhere. -1 It waa wondronsly foreshown In Isaac being given back to Abraham from the dead in a figure (Heb. xL 17-19). In His teaching the Lord Jesus f?1" many times spoke nUinbr of JQUa deatn. and reanrrectiaxi.

Box 100 City. 26-2t and the great Truth of Christianity is that we have at the right band of the Father In heaven a risen living Christ, truly a Man and truly God, In whom alone Is salvation, the only Judge of all mankind and the only One who can set up a kingdom of righteousness on the earth. The most horrible thing that ever happened on this earth and that which shows the desperately wicked nature of the human heart was the cruel murder of the Son of God, but God raised Him from the dead and gave Him glory and will yet give Him dominion over all the earth, and His redeemed shall share the kingdom with Him. His disciples never received His words that He was to be crucified and rise from the dead the third day (Matt xx, 17-19). but some of His enemies remembered them (Matt, xxvil, 02. 63). His mother and some of the other women who ministered to Him remained by His cross to the last, and some of them after His body was buried returned and prepared spices and ointments and rested the Sabbath day according to the commandment, intending on the first day to bring the spices and anoint His body (Luke xxiiL 55. 56; xxiv, 1). When they come to the tomb on the first day morning early they find the stone rolled away; they see an angel, who, tells them that He is risen and that they must go quickly and tell His disciples. When Mary Magdalene saw the stone rolled away she ran to tell Peter and John, who 'ran to the sepulcher and saw for themselves and returned, but Mary remained near the sepulcher, weeping, till Jesus Himself, whom she thought at first to be the gardener, spoke to her and called her by name. When she and the other women told the disciples that He was risen from the dead they believed not. and some thought It an idle tale (verses 11, 13, 14; Luke xxiv. 11), giving Him occasion to upbraid them with their unbelief and hardness of heart. Many who now are told that the same Jesus Is coming again think It an idle tale and believe not, not knowing the Scriptures nor the power of God and perhaps forgetting that Jesus said. "O fools and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have 6poken" (Luke xxiv, 25). The angels believe and desire to look more fully Into these things (verses 5-7; I Pet. i, 12). Dr. Scofleld gives in the margin of verse 6 this rendering: "Jesus ye seek the- Xazarene. the crucified. He arose. He is not here." He also gives in his notes on Matt xxvill the order of the events of that morning and also the order of the different appearances during those forty days. Note In verse 7 of our lesson how Peter is mentioned by name, the true disciple who had treated Him the worst, denying with oaths that he knew Him. , How true it is that weakest lambs have largest share of this tender Shepherd's care! However weak and unworthy yon may be, remember that "having loved His own Be loved them unto the end" (John xilL 1). A mere knowledge of the, facts of His, life and death, and resurrection will' benefit us nothing unless, knowing these things, we truly receive Him as our own personal Saviour and place oar whole' trust as lost people in the efllcacy of His great sacrifice,. Then the joy of being redeemed will lead us to obey with gladness Bis command In verse 15, counting upon a fulfillment of verse 20. Our dally life wm be "serving the living- and true God" and our attitude "waiting for His Son from heaven (I Thess. L 9, 10). CHRISTIAN ' ENDEAVOR; Prayer Meeting Topic For the Weak . Do Rabbits Really Lay Easter Eggs By CALLY RYLAND.
"I want to ask you something confidentially," said Alice, who was very proud of the long words she had picked up from the grown-ups. "Ask away," answered the March Hare, with that indifferent manner of bis that was so trying to his friends. "Well do you?" here Alice brought her lips so close to his left ear that her breath tickled it . and made it twitch violently-7-"do you really and trully lay all the Easter eggs?" The March Hare twiddled his nose for a moment and then giggled. Alice wanted politely for him to stop. "Do you?" she asked again. "It is something I've alwajs intended to ask you, but somehow the moment you stopped asking conundrums the Hatter began, and when he stopped the Dormouse snored so loud I couldn't think what it was I wanted to ask. It has puzzzled me ever since I could remember, because you know, my father says the hens have a corner on the egg market and he doesn't quite see why they let you in." The March Hare looked at her. "Promise never to tell?" he asked solemnly. "I promise," said Alice. "Cross your heart?" "Cross my heart." "Hope you may die?" "Hope I may die." "Well, then," said the March Hare, drawing a long breath and blowing out his whiskers, it was this way: Once the Hatter and I made a bet and fuller life at a future time. ' The dream of Socrates has practically become an accepted fact of both science and philosophy. There is a yearning In the human heart for continuation of life, and therefore it mnst be ao, else whence this longing hope, this fond desire for immortality. The foreshadowing of nature, the teachings of science and philosophy, the dreams of the human heart, are demonstrated by Christianity. Jesus Christ died. His body lay in the tomb for three days. His soul still lived In paradise. On the third day soul and body were united again and raised from the dead, proving both the immortality of the soul and the resurrection of the body. We are therefore to live forever. This life is but the threshold of an eternal life, and here it is to be determined whether we are to live forever in happiness or in woe, depending upon our relation to God through the Lord Jesus Christ. It should not take us long to decide our destination for the future. Only the thoughtless and careless can let the days go by without deciding to live forever in heaven with God than in hell with Satan and his fallen spirits. If we have not decided to live with God forever we should do so this Easter season and get ready to live forever with. Him. If we have decided to spend the immortal life with Satan little preparation is necessary. Live a life of unbelief and sin or of indifference and the preparation will be made. Bat an hour of eternal happiness costs something, and preparation is necessary and should be made. It will wen repay us for all our efforts and all our sacrifices. Getting ready to live forever! What a solemn thought! If we were going to some other place to live than where we live now how earnest we would be in getting ready. Perhaps days, weeks and even months would be needed. It takes time also to prepare for the life that Is to be forever. The journey itself Is brief, but the preparation may take some time. We should get ready early. "Remember sow thy Creator In the days of thy youth." Just as soon as we reach the ago. of.

"Well, don't try; I!ll tell you," said the March hare, yawning and biting a bit of straw that he always wore twined around his ears. "He bet me a Easter hat that he promised to make and block himself, that I couldn't beat the TortoiB running, and I bet him a nest of eggs I could. He said 'I'll wager you can't, and I said, 'L'll lay you a nest of eggs I can, old chap' just like that, and he took it to mean, d'ye see, that I'd lay the eggs myself. Well, so you know, I suppose, if you've read the History of England, that the Tortoise beat me." "I didn't know it was in the hist" began Alice. "You know very little for the size of your head." interrupted the March Hare rudely. "Don't stop me till I get through. He beat me, as I said, by the last ten necks, so, of course, then I had to show up with them eggs which the Hatter he's crazy, you know said I had to lay myself. Well, the short of it Is. I robbed Henny Penny's nest (you promised never to tell this, you know), tied the eggs up in an old red and purple bandana handkerchief I had and set out for the Hatter's shop. "It was a fearfully hot day. I remember the thermometer stood at 123 in the shade. I sat. down under a lre and put the bandana full of eggs in a little brook that ran alongside. By bflity we should get reaay ror ourunture and eternal home. This is quite reasonable, for if we neglect getting ready then evil days may come, in which indifference or sin may take possession of us and persuade ua that getting ready, is unnecessary, at least for long years. But what folly! We do not set the time when we shall move into onr eternal home. Death is certain, but nothing Is so uncertain than the time of His earning, and, having made our peace with God and possessing the assurance of our soul's salvation, we should keep ready at ' all times. Tears may pass before we make the Journey, trials and tribulations may be met, but we should keep the faith at any cost or sacrifice, for again "no man knoweth the day nor the hour when the Son of Man Cometh." Constant readiness, as in the case of the five wise virgins, is an absolute necessity. The matter of our eternal dwelling place is of too infinite importance to be neglected even for a moment In that moment we may be called to the life that is never to end and, like the five foolish virgins, find ourselves unprepared and shut out of the kingdom of heaven. Accept Christ as your Saviour, be ever faithful unto Him, and when He calls you will be prepared to enter the heavenly home which He by His death has prepared for you. BIBLS BKADniOS. I picked 'em up and went on again, and when I opened the handkerchief at the Hatter's house, what do you suppose was in it?" "Chickens-" asked Alice breathlessly. "Chickens, nonsense !M said the March Hare crossly. "What makes you so stupid? Eggs were In It But O the finest, eggs you .ever saw all purple and red like the handkerchief. Of course, the Hatter knew no hen would take the trouble to lay eggs like that, so when I said there were the eggs I'd laid he never knew the difference, and being a gossip the news got all about the neighborhood, and now I'm in for it every Easter." "But I don't quite see," began Alice, timidly. "Don't you? Well, I told you It was a sizzling hot day, didn't I? When I put the eggs In the brook to keep cool, of course I didn't notice that the brook was boiling hot It boiled all the color off my handkerchiew Into the eggs. Now, do you see?" "Oh, thank you sir," said Alice, "Do you know I never understood it before, and sometimes I used to think you really did lay all the Easter eggs." "So I did," said the March Hare, yawning fit to split his jawbone. I layed them to the Hatter. Now don't ask any more questions, please; I'm going to take a nap," and he folded his paws arid stretched his toes in front of him and was soon, snoring like a buzz-saw. SUIT FOR DAMAGES Homer V.
