Some Gossip The local lodge of Elks has abandoned the idea of going in a body to the annual Elks' convention at Detroit next June, owing to the fact that accommodations could not be obtained unless the quarters occupied were contracted for a week. It is probable that thirty or forty members of the local lodge will attend as individuals. Local Royal Arch Masons, their families and lady friends, have been invited to participate in the celebration of the fifty-fifth anniversary of Richmond Commandery, No. 8, K. T., at the Masonic Temple on next Monday evening. Sir Knights will appear in full dress uniform. There will be cards and dancing and a buffet lunch will be served. The Whitewater lodge of Odd Fellows conferred the first degree on Jesse M. Black last evening. The second degree will be conferred on a number of candidates at the meeting held next Friday night. Several visitors from the East Germantown lodge were in attendance at last night's meeting. A meeting will be held soon by the Sons of Veterans to determine on a program for Memorial day. George Harvey of Danville, Ind., will be the speaker, but otherwise no arrangements of a definite character have been decided on for the observance of the day. Miss Eva Gause, worthy matron of Loyal Chapter, Eastern Star, has issued a call for the members of the lodge to meet this evening at 7 o'clock at the lodge rooms. The order will hold funeral services in honor of Mrs. Eleanora Likins, who died at Reid Memorial hospital yesterday. Mrs. Likins took an active part in the lodge affairs. ' On March 28 the Sons of Veterans will hold a meeting for the purpose of discussing the state encampment which will be held at South Bend on June 6 and 7. Local Lodges of Masons which was called for last evening to confer the Master Mason's degree on one candidate, was post poned owing to the inabilty of the candidate to arrive in this city. He lives in Indianapolis and missed his train. The degree will be given to him later. The committees of Modern Woodmen lodge who have charge of the prepara tions for the annual state log rolling meet, to be held in this city on July 4 are busily engaged. ' However, the committees have no final report to make. The lodge have a rather large class for the adoption degree at its first meeting in April. Wayne Aerie of Eagles, No. G6, is devoting nearly all of its attention to preparations for the state convention of the order which will be held in this city in June.
