ably aubdued tola aeaaon. Laat summer the men who desired to be atrictly modish transformed tbemselvM into a aynanoay of some particular color and carried out the scheme from cravat to hose, and some extremiata even stretched the effect from bat to shoea. Thla season it ia ordained that there ia to be mora almplicity in color and where matching la affected at all it la carried no further than the tie. hose and kerchief, and the other accessories are expressed by harmonloua contrasting shades. The eraTat la to be the dominant note of the color scheme , and therefore the gamut of color treatment ia given wider latitude in thla detail than in anything else except the hose which are to match with the cravat

Neckwear. Many beautiful abides, some never seen before in the spectrum of men'a regalia, are launched thla aeason. Many rich paatel tonea are ahown and the variety of color ia ao great that no one color can be pointed out aa the predominating abade of the aeaaen. The edicts approve Banter's, reseda, French and olive in tha greens; then there are dark tana, atone blnea, Atlantic and peacock blues, wistaria, hello and old rose. Some of tha very.nltra new

hades are viola; a new shade of pale hello,, bullrush ; a pale sea-green, mignonette, mallard grey, royal blue, delft blue. Pompadour rose, Rose da Barry, cygnet grey and neopal. The popular shapes In the neckwear thla season are the four-in-hands, Ascota, onceovers, de Joinville and narrow strings. The texture effects include two-tone color treatments In silk stripes, twills and armure ground weaves, swivel cords, broche bengalinea and moires. There are also many taffetas ahown, both in solid colors and in conventional designs. Panel effects In pastel shade are well represented. Shirts. There la a decided tendency to give the pleated boaom shirts the utmost prominence this aeason. These are shown in knife pleats double pleata or in the finer varieties in cluster or French pleata. Soft materials are also extremely fashionable and will be even more so with the advent of the naid-enmaier days. The materials chiefly employed in theae are fine French flannels, silk and linen mixtures, crepe, China, Shanghai, pongee, habutal and Jap alike. These shirts all have the roll collars, patch pockets, French or torn back cuffs, and are usually enhanced by artistic monograma. The stiff boaom ahlrta and negligeea in madras, percales, chevlota and cambrics will by no meana be neglected and are ahown in aome very rich patterning effects. Oxford basket weaves are also very fash

ionable and promise great popmsMy. As to patterns, stripes of the more aubdued tone have the preference over the bold stripes In vogue last spring. This season there are also shown many cross bar effects. Black and white treatments in modest stripes ar quite the thing. Other effects that are well placed in the season's edicts are blue and white atripea, pink and white stripes, lavender, green, brown and tan tones. Red Is a novelty feature of tbe season and promises to become a favorite. Cellars. As to collars the fold-over is still in the lead. There is a tendency, influenced by returning tourists from abroad, to introduce the London style of rounded wings, but no great response has, aa yet. been noticed. The fold-overs are shown in many angles of the V opening but the real closeset effect seems to have the most popularity. ITesIery. It is ordained this season tbst the hosiery must still match the cravat la color and this edict gives wide latitude for choice as to the effects in color that yon may select from. The tendency seems is be toward solid colore either plain or with self clockings. Neat designs in stripes are also well considered and accordion effects will be much ahown in the higher priced lines. Embroidered figures of small designs on dark grounds are well placed In the edicts and two-toned effects and ;ia-

heads are also represented. For sanctioned colors merely refer to the shades decreed for neckwear. CIoTea. The glove fashions show little. If any, change from the styles in vogue last spring. There is a marked tendency for plain trimming effect in the stitching, and as to buttons both Ivory and glass have precedence over the metal clasps, though tbese latter are by no means taboo. Suedes and chamois finishes return with increasing popularity and In the Klace effects the chosen shades are mode, fawn, tan, beige, ox-blood, pearl and steel. Belts. There is great likelihood of many grey belts being worn this summer oa account

of the prominence of grey in the salts bat unquestionably black will be the prevslllng effect. Russian, plg-skln. seal and morocco are the prominent leather flnlsbe. Brass and gun metal buckles have tha call over the silver trimmings. Jewelry. There is less ostentation In the Jewelry effects for men this aeason as the semiprecious stones are considered much better taste than the costly Jewels. Almost all tbe conventional designs that are simple, and a few that are unique, are in vogue. In scarf pins, as well as links, such stones as scarabs, jade, topaa. amethyst, pearls

and cameos are chiefly shown these usual-, ly in oval, elliptical or square cut aettlnga surrounded with gold or platinum banda. Where fobs are worn monogram seals are very well thought of. Chains are of very light character; th heavy effects for th;

time being are passe. Silk bands ere moat fashionable and upon these are nsoslly worn, the wearer's monogram composed of small brilliants set in platinum. Caawa mm I'aafcraUM. Light effects in canes ar th word this season and the penchant for carrying eaae is stronger among men of fashion thee we have evidenced in aeveral years. In conformity with the decree for lightness la walking sticks the all-wood treatments ar tbe mode, displacing in a large BBaaure th Ivory, bone and metal handle and trimmings. Woods of flexible character are preferred, th most favored of which are wbangee. plmentoa, bamboo, malacca and psnama. In umbrellas the eolid sticks are displacing the steel rods. In both races and umbrellas there are many woods of green and grey floisbee shown.

Fary Waistcoats. Striped effects UBsheared teitnre are the dominant not of fashion to fancy waistcoats this season. It Is aot clearly defined as to wiat roler arbeme ahall b choaeo in th aaaterlala aa thta aaaat b left to year owa Judgment as to th fitnese of things.
