ADOPT 0I1I00E PLAN To Irrigate 30,000 Acres of Land for Fruits and Vegetables. SEEK IRISH COLONISTS (American News Service) Spokane, Wash., March 2.-A unique plan has been adopted and is under way to irrigate oO,XH) acres of fruit and vegetable lands neaf Northport, DO miles north of Spokane. A mining man of Spokane, who is backed by a syndicate of local capitalists, has been sent to Ireland to organize a colony of 3,u0 families to make their homes along the Columbia and Kettle rivers in Stevens and Ferry counties. The plan now under consideration is to have the Irish immigrants work the land on shares until they are familiar with modern tillage, when they will be permitted to buy the acreage at actual cost. A trained horticulturist will teach them the principals of irrigation. The syndicate has filed on numerous water rights on the two streams between the international boundary and Northpost, and engineers now working on the ground, making the preliminary surveys for the canals and laterals, say that sufficient water is under the syndicate's control to be able to supply moisture for more than j0,tO acres of land.
