The twentyseven "head light" cases brought by the railroad companies against the State of Indiana are to be consolidated into two test suits, one in the Marion county superior court and the other in the federal court at Indianapolis. According to the present plans of the attorneys they will take the cases from the various courts of the state and centralize the contest. IT MEANS LARGER STAFF A LARGE BRICK BUILDING WILL BE ERECTED FOR THE MILL DEPARTMENT A NEW OFFICE BUILDING. Planning for a general increase in all departments of the Starr Piano factory it was announced by one of the officials this morning that work would be started in the spring on very extensive improvements which would call for a large expenditure of money and would increase the working force of the plant proportionately. The officials have not determined definitely on the improvements, awaiting the return of Clarence Genuett, who is expected back from Florida within a few days. However, it was announced that a large brick building would be erected to the north of the present factory building for the accommodation of the mill department. It is expected that as soon as the plans for the addition have been definitely approved, the contract will be let and work started at once in order that the building may be utilized in the fall. By such increase in the mill department, all other departments will necessarily have to be increased. The cost of the improvements is not known, neither is it exactly known how much the working force will be increased. The company's present office quarters will be converted into factory quarters as soon as the new office building Is completed. It is anticipated that this building, which calls for the expenditure of 523,000, will be completed by May 1, possibly earlier. PEST OH WARSHIP f American News Service) Washington, Feb. 13. He recently forced the substitution of his resolution governing the inquiry, and incidentally headed off Senator Aldrich's resolution which many declare was a distinct purpose to whitewash the tariff law in connection with the cause of higher prices. It is likely that he will be chairman of the investigating committee ACT Oil PEARY BILL (American News Service) Washington, Feb. 13. The house committee on naval affairs referred back today to the senate bill to promote Commander Peary to rear admiral, suggesting some kind of recognition to be made of Peary's services. The sub-committee had rejected the bill. TILLMAN IS LOSER (American News Service) Columbia, S. C, Feb. 13. The State Supreme Court today handed down a decision in the Tillman habeas corpus case, taking Senator Tillman's grandchildren from him and awarding them to their mother, Mrs. Benj. F. Tillman, Jr.

FRAUDULENT WORK BY GEO, PIPER NETS LARGE SUM (Continued From Page One.) another check for the sum of $500 was received here from Billings, Mon. tana, which had been cashed on February 7 by a hardware firm. All of the checks were protested by the local bank through a notary and returned, branding Pipher as a fraud and notifying the perbons who had cashed the checks that Pipher had no money in the local bank. This morning a check for the sum of $200, which was cashed for Piper on February 12 by a Boston. Mass.. hardware firm, was received at the local bank and it also was protested and returned. It is said that Piper is working the same game in various other cities over the country and that nis swindiings amount to approxi mately $18,000. Traveled for F. & N. Co. For several years he traveled for the F. & X. Lawn Mower company of this city and is well known throughout the west Last fall it was discovered that he had embezzled several hundred dred dollars from the company and an effort was made at that time to locate him. Only recently however was it discovered that his swindling schemes had assumed such gigantic proportions. It is thought that he still represents himself as a salesman for the F. & N. company and as he is intimately ac quainted with the company's customers all over the country, has no difficulty whateer in securing some one to vouch for him. He is therefore able to cash the checks easily and get away with the money before it is found out that his drafts are worthless. It was thought he would confine his operations to the western states, as he was better known in that locality. The authorities and bank officials were therefore very much surprised this morning to learn that he had been in Boston only three days ago and was successfully working his game in the east. I The Pinkerton detectives have been 1 put on the case and the police author ities in every town and city in the country have been notified of his operations, it is said, and furnished with a description of the man. It is not understood how he has possibly evaded arrest for so long a time, and he is regarded as one of the most clever criminals in the business. His jumps over the country are puzzling to the police and it is thought that the man must be traveling in a very clever disguise.
