With possibly one exception the receipts of hogs were the largest since about the middle of December and there were more than necessary. Salesmen were further handicapped by a lack of out- j side orders and unfavorable reports ' from other places. Sales were made 1 at a decline of 5 to 10c and before the close all kinds showed at least 10c de- i cline. The closing trade was quiet and a few loads remained unsold. The top was $S.75 or 40c lower than last Friday. Most of the hogs were good enough to sell for $S.55 $8.70. There was a fair ircrease in the marketing of cattle, compared with the daily average this month, and in most lines the supply was equal to the requirements. Trading was quiet with an easier tendency in prices and before the close sales showed a decline of 10 cents especially among steers and heifers. There was only a fair feeder trade at weaker pries. Bulls held steady and calves were strong to higher. In proportion to the receipt of other kinds of stock, there was a small run of sheep and lambs and even local killers were unable to get as many as they wished. Practically all the arrivals were lambs and they sold for $5.00$S.75, indicating that the market was steady. Sheep are quotable at $1.50(g$4.75. Iron In the Sixteenth Century. The cost of the railings around St Paul's cathedral (claimed by several Sussex parishes, but really made at Lamberhurst. a parish partly in Kent) Is recorded in the account books of the manufactory as having been 11,202 Os. 6d. The total weight was 200 tons. The amount of employment given may be conjectured from the statement of Richard Woodman, one of the Marian martyrs burned at Lewes In 1557. that he had set a hundred persons to work for the year together. GIRL PASSENGERS UNHURT BUT THEIR ESCORT SUFFERS A FRACTURED LEG, HIP AND NOSE WAS "SHOOTING" DOWN HILL PAST GAAR'S. While coasting down the steep and winding hill, leading from Washington avenue, west across the river, past ths Garr. Scott and Company's factory, about 7 o'clock last evening, Theodore Keller, a sixteen-year-old boy, lost control of his bob sled and it ran into the middle partition of the covered wooden bridge, which crosses the Whitwater river. He was caught between the sled and the partition of the bridge, and sustained a fractured left leg, hip and nose, and several other less serious injuries. On the bob sled with young Keller, were three girl companions. Although they were thrown a considerable distance when the sled struck the obstruction, the girls were not injured, except for minor bruises. The names of the girls could not be obtained. Aid was summoned and Lewis Kromer, an employe of the Auto Station, carried Keller to his parents' hom, S2 Bridge avenue. Cause of Accident. The accident was due to young Keller not being able to keep the sled in the path, which has been worn on the roadway, when the curve in the road was reached. He endeavored to get the sled back in the path but was not successful and resulted in the accident. This hill is one of the steepest and most dangerous for such sport in the city. However, the fact that it is dangerous has lent thrilling adventure to the sport, which has been very tempting to the younger generation. This is the first serious coasting accident reported this year. HAUGHTY DON ANGRY Spanish Minister Claims He Was Insulted While at White House. Washington, Jan. 11. REV. ELMER DAVIDSON WAS WANTED AT WASHINGTON. IND. ON CHARGE OF HAVING DESERTED HIS WIPE. Piqna. O., Jan. 11. The flight t Rev. Elmer E. Davidson, an evangelist to escape arrest and extradition to Indiana for alleced wife desertion, was the scandal of the town yesterday. While an officer was waiting to place him under arrest Sunday night the minister madqhls escape through the basement of the church in which be was preaching, going out through a cellar window. So precipitate was his flight that he did not stay to get his overcoat, although the night was bitter cold. Rev. Davidson came here last week to conduct revival meetings at the Church of Christ. He made a. deep Impression quickly. Sunday evening the local officers received a request from the mayor of Washington. Ind.. to arrest and hold Rev. Davidson on the ground of wife desertion, promising to secure extradition papers. An Officer Detailed. An officer was sent to the church, arriving in the midst of the service. Making his mission known to the pastor and elders he was asked to wait until the clone of the service, that the affair might be kept as quiet as possible. As the minister closed his discourse a special delivery letter was handed him. Seemingly recognizing Its purpose he crushed It In his hand without opening and left the pulpit and made his exit from the cellar. Finally after waiting for some time the officer discovered he had gone. Rev. Davidson denies his marriage to the woman who claims to be his wife. He asserts It is a blackmailing game on the part of the woman of Washington, Ind, to ruin him. Ho is said to be supported by the official board of the Church of Christ at Washington. In the face of his flight the pastor and board of the local church yesterday expressed faith in Davidson, declaring their belief that bo is betas persecuted. erage yesterday afternoon.
