The attraction at tho Gennett tonight will be 'The Clansman." For more than four years past, the press of the entire country has published more about this play than has probably ever been written before about any other drama. The play does its own advertising. The appeal of "The Clansman" is so great that nothing can stop its full tide of success. Even those who do not agree with its sentiments are compelled to acknowledge its tremendous power. The Louisville Courier Journal had a neat little comment on the attitude of some papers! that are, not published in the South: "Some of the Eastern papers have seen fit to say caustic and scurrilous things about 'The Clansman.' May it not be true that Mr. Dixon's play gets viuder the hide and stings?" "The Three Twins." The seats are now on sale for the big production Thursday night at the Gennett of the "Three Twins." The book is founded on the old farce, "Incog," famous for its laughs for the past twenty years. The libretto is the work of Mr. Charles L. Dickson, who was prominently identified with the presentation of "Incog" for so many years. The lyrics are by Mr. Otto A. Hauerbach, and the music by Mr. Carl Hoschna. The new production will be in two acts, and a strong cast has been gathered together by Mr. Gaites for the presentation. It includes Mr. Thomas Waif fen, favorably known here for his excellent work with comic opera successes; Miss Florine Sweetman, whose work attracted considerable attention and who is known as one of the best dancers on the musical stage; Helen Du Hols, Elsie Mynne, Eveleen Dunmore, Mr. Edward Wade, Hugh Fay, Henry Schumann-Heink, John Abbott, Neil Kelly, Russell Lennon and others. In gathering together the members of his company Mr. Gaites retains as many of the favorites as could consistently play the parts. Gus Schlke, of course, did the staging for "Three Twins," and this in itself assures brilliant novelties both in .pictures and in dancing. The production is a most lavish one in every way and no effort has been spared to make "Three Twins" a fitting success. "The Chorus Lady.". Rose Stahl, the famous heroine of James Forbes's wonderful play, of stage life, "The Chorus Lady," comes 1o the Gennett tomorrow evening. The play, under Henry B. Harris's management, appeared in one season at the Savoy, Hackett, Garrick and Hudson theaters in New York, a feat never performed before and one which will scarcely be duplicated in the near future. "The Chorus Lady" when announced for production at the Savoy theater with Miss Stahl as the star, created only a mild ripple of interest, as both star and author were at that time practically unknown in New York. The morning following the production Miss Stahl found herself an established star. Forced out of the Savoy by previous bookings, Miss Stahl, flying in the face of theatrical superstition, which predicts failure for a production moved from one theater to another, found shelter for one week at the Garrick theater, and was then transferred to the Hackett, where she achieved the longest run of any play or star presented that season. A four months' engagement at Powers' theater, Chicago, followed, j and was succeeded in turn by long engagements in other cities, so that when the play closed in Boston two years later in order to give the star a much needed rest, she had placed to her credit a record of ninety-four consecutive weeks to record-breaking business. "The Blue Mouse." In his latest play, "The Blue Mouse," an adaptation from the German, Clyde Fitch is said to have proven himself a master of the purest forms of farce. Mt. Fitch, who has to his credit thirty original plays, and about twenty adaptations, styles his most recent effort a "farcial comedy." New Yorkers have termed it a "knock-out." Although a phenomenal success in Germany and France, where the piece is still running after two years, it was not until last season that America was treated to the play that, predictions say, will prove the most laughable farce ever presented, and that the metropolis took it, figura 0;sq All taYear Round America's Health Resort CI. tively, to its bosom is shown by the fact that it ran continuously until September last. "The Blue Mouse" has no moral to tell , but aims to amuse and Mr. Fitch has crowded as much fun into the three acts as could be done. As usual, he has conceived not only original and unique types, but novel scenes. The leading character, Paulette Dovine, a "vawderville" "Salomer," known as "The Blue Mouse" is a creation, distinct and lasting. She is neither good nor bad. Ashton Steveus, in the New York Evening Journal, calls he "benignly tough." As played by Miss Beatrice Noyes, one of the most winsome and gracious actresses of the day, "The Blue Mouse" becomes a sort of glorified devil. Another odd type is that of an old German woman whom the "Mouse" for "$25 per," employs as her mother. Then, too, the president of the InterState Railroad, who likes every pretty face, is nother hewn-from-the-rock type. This propensity give3 rise to most of the complications. Rollett, his secretary, wants to be made division superintendent, an dhe pays "The Blue Mouse" to impersonate his own wife and flirt with Lewellyn in order to wheedle the promotion from him. The trick is turned and the mixups
that follow are too many to describe. Of course, the real Mrs. Rollett is drawn into the trouble as well as Mrs. Lewellyn, not to mention Rollett's father-in-law, "The Blue Mouse's" lover from 'Frisco, and "the Old Boy." "The Blue Mouse" will be seen at the Murray theater tonight. STOMACH MISERY Get Rid of That Sourness, Gas and Indigestion. When your stomach is out of order or run down, your food doesn't digest. TENDS TO INCITE RIOTS St. Paul, Minn., Jan. 11th. The state of Minnesota may ring down the curtain on "The Clansman," Thomas Dixon, .Tr.'s sensational play. A peti tion signed by two hundred of St Paul's leading colored citizens, pre sented to Governor Eberhart today, asked that the play be barred from the state of Minnesota, on the grounds that it incites race hatred and tends to create riot. The petition states that "The Clansman" has been barred from Philadelphia, Baltimore, Atlan ta, Ga., Washington, Buffalo and many other cities. The movement against the play here is headed by Frederick L. McGhee, a prominent colored attorney, and close friend of the late Governor John A. Johnson.
