SOME RAILWAY HOLDINGS BY COMPANIES WHICH HAVE NEVER OPERATED ALONG THE RIGHTS OF WAY, IS INCLUDED IN DELINQUENT LIST. On February 14, all real estate in the county, which the county holds a lien, because of delinquent tax, will be sold by county treasurer Albert Albertson, for a sum sufficient to cover the unpaid taxes. The owners of real estate on which the county holds tax liens have been notified and have been requested to make the payments before January 15. There are perhaps two hundred and fifty properties in the county on which taxes are delinquent. According to county officials, there are but very few properties in the list which are considered valuable. The promoters of the Evansville and Richmond company, who years ag purchased a right of way through this county and spent small sized fortune in grading the right of way, preparatory to laying the tracks which was never done, are indebted to the county for a considerable amount of back taxes. The right of way is divided into pieces and on about thirtyfive of these pieces back taxes are due. The amount of such liens is small, averaging less than $10 in each instance it is said. Formerly Met Taxes. Heretofore the promoters have keptthe taxes paid and, it is anticipated, they will again pay their tax this year. However, their action in allowing the taxes to become delinquent may indicate that they intend to give up their holdings. Another Railroad, the Indiana and Southern in which John M. Walsh, the Chicago banker was Interested, and which company secured a large amount of land in this county several years ago, for a right of way, but which it never developed, is delinquent on about six pieces o fits real estate. The sums are approximately the same as that owed by the campany above referred to. MAKES HACK REPORT County superintendent C. W. Jordan is preparing his hack report, to be submitted to state superintendent R. J. Aley. His report will show the number of children who are hauled to school at the expense of the different townships, the number of miles traveled daily by the respective hacks and the costs of maintenance of each. The cost is apportioned among the parents of the pupils thus accommodated. MARKET ON SATURDAY. Market will be held in the South A street market house Saturday afternoon and evening.

TIeman, supervisor of census of Connersville to the efect that the civil service examination for census enumerators would be held Saturday, February 5th, in the county superintendent's office in the court house. The examination will be for enumerators for the following townships: Green, New Garden, Franklin, Webster, Center, Abington, Boston and Wayne. Heretofore the enumerators have been appointed under the old "spoils system," no examination being necessary. Miss Anna B. Golden, William H. Hansche and Finance Clerk O. H. Sprong will compose the local examining board. There are many applicants for the position and Postmaster Spekenhier has been the recipient of many questions as to when the examination would take place. STATION ABANDONED A. W. Mackenzie, one of the chief electricians for the United States navy who has be-i located in this city for the past eighteen months, securing recruits fcr the navy, has closed his office in the postoffice, and will go to Columbus, Ind., where he will make his headquarters for perhaps the next year. Mr. Mackenzie stated that he bad not been very successful in getting recruits in this ity. There have been numerous applicants but the large majority failed to pass the examination and only aboit twelve were accepted. It is in view of the fact that this territory is a poor one for Uncle Sam's purpose that the officer decided to change his location. EILE EOSLER WILL The will of the late I. T. If one wishes to test the purity of powdered coffee the following method is recommended: To a tumblerful of cold water add some of the powdered coffee. Most adulterants will settle at the bottom, leaving trails of brownish color behind them as they sink, but genuine coffee will float without giving a distinctive color to the water for several minutes. For those who cannot eat tried croquettes and yet enjoy the savory mixture that composes them It Is worth while to know that they can be baked.
