Paris, Dec. 7. And so Maxim Gorky, the famous Russian novelist and revolutionist has at last fallen into evil ways at least from the standpoint of the revolutionists and is to be expelled from the Russian democratic party. The report that this , "champion of the oppressed" was unable to stand prosperity and is living a life of ease and luxury with his "soul mate" Mile. Andrieva, the Russian actress, on the island of Capri, proved a severe blow to his followers. Conferences were held and finally a messenger was dispatched to Gorky's, Mediterranean home, to inform him that he is no longer a member of the party. Thus the cause for which he suffered imprisonment and exile has disowned him. Truly, money is the root of all

evil, for rumor has it that Gorky accumulated $100,000 by his lectures and writings, and then betook himself to his island home, where he passed up the oil and corn. His present predicament recalls his trip to America in 1006, when he was ostracized from society, but for slightly different reasons. On his arrival in the United States he was met at the pier by the leading exponents of socialism in that counti y. His beautiful little female companion, who was down on the ship's register as "Mrs, Gorky, was welcomed by society with open arms. A beautiful apartment was placed at their disposal In New York city, and a host of admirers flooded them with Invitations. Tha uiscovery, however, that the real

Mrs. Gorky was in Russia, with her

two children, and that the revolution

ist s charming companion was none other than Mile. Andreieva, a Russian

actress, caused no mild sensation.

About the most we can say for our array of presents for older people is that we have just as complete an assortment of seasonable and desirable gifts for the older people as we have for the children.

I&lectric Lamps Never before have we shown so many or so beautiful lamps as this year. It's hard to do them justice with words. There isn't a design in the house that one would not be glad to receive for a Christmas present. All the new things in the metal shades are carried and a new line of semiopaque glass ware with flowers in raised work is proving the season's sensation. Whether it be a distinctively large lamp for the living room or library, or a small desk lamp which is desired, we can show you lamps which will more than fill your expectations. Lamps which cast their illumination far, lamps which concentrate their illumination, lamps which cast subdued light in any desired place these are the kinds which may be fotind here. To see is to desire. The prices were never so low.

Ajrt Braoo Work Brass is distinctly the seasonable novelty in metal work. It is a craze which bid fair to last. There isn't anything much prettier or more artistic than this work in the designs we carry. The metal is one which can be used in making delicate, light novelties and at the same time heavy, massive ones, its range of adaptability is so large that the seeker is not limited in a stock to select from. Beautiful fern dishes, artistic vases, heavy and attractive jardiniers, smoking sets with tapering artistic lines, and massive umbrella stands are among the articles carried. Then there are the tea urns, the Art Crafting Material and something very new and very desirable brass dinner gongs. They should be seen and heard to be appreciated.

Waro We aren't using "advertising talk when we say that our line of nickeled goods is the best, the largest and the most complete in the city. Christmas Time is chafing dish time. We've a whole case of these goods to select from. Not one of them but what is high grade and distinctly beautiful. Carried in all sizes, at prices which mean a real aaving over anything ever offered. Then there are tea urn in nickeled ware. Dainty and desirable and beautiful in every line are these. There la nothing that is more appreciated. Nickel Coffee Percolate ra, the kind that is advertised most widely the Universal the kind that give the most complete satisfaction, the kind that looks well as well as does well. These make handsome and useful gifts. Nickeled toast racks are something new. Something desirable toe. These are only a few. All these and ethers are waiting your inspection.
