Rear Admiral Phelps, commander of the Mare Islands navy yard, opens sealed orders sent him telegraphically, tomorrow, it is expected that he will find information of great Importance relating to the Nicaragua situation. The gunboat Princeton, from Bremerton, bound for Gorinto, is due tomorrow at Mare Island to take on stores and ammunition. The opening of the secret message will be coincident with her arrival. Today the work of putting the four transports held here under orders went on with a rush. There are many indications of naval activity at the yard, which has not been so busy since the war with Spain. Among the clocks at Versailles is one of great interest historically, for it belonged to Marie Antoinette, the hapless consort of Louis XVI. It is a musical clock. For many years it has been out of order, but in the initiative of Comte de Beauthamp it has been restored by M. Leroy, a decendant of tha constructor of the timepiece. There is much speculation about what the president will have to say on the Sherman anti-trust law, and the issuance of the writ of injunction. It is not now expected that Mr. Taft will not touch the question, preferring to wait until after the supreme court has passed on the appeal of the Standard Oil Co., on the dissolution decision. There is a general feeling in congress among democrats and republicans alike; that the use of the Injunction has been abused, and that it is now up to the national law makers to amend the law so that the writ may not be used to inflict hardships on those against whom It is directed. Organized labor is urging this legislation and there appears to be a majority in congress in favor of it. The Postal savings bank Is the child of the president and he will impress upon his party in congress that the Chicago platform calls for this legislation. While the president Is committed to a central bank issue and will give his view fully on this subject in the message, it Is doubtful if he will go to the length of suggesting that the postal savings bank bill go over until the next session when the monetary commission makes its report with the recommendations for the establishing of the Central bank of issue. Should this be done, there can be no question but that the postal savings bank will figure as an issue in the congressional elec tions next fall. --:is Pkoar 2040. la Cff ret nrabrr 14. 1SOS.
